1.1.1 Battery problems

Since the update, I've had issues with my battery draining super fast. We're talking like 12 hours of standby, no internet use, a few text messages, no phone calls even, and 12 hours later, I'm at 20%. I've turned off wifi, dimmed the screen to try to save battery life, but it's draining anyway. I had no issues with this before the update, battery lasted much longer, but now it's doing this on both my iphones. I did a restore and started over, and still having same issues. We'll see what apple has to say about it in the morning.
I will agree that it is taking a lot longer to charge, and after barely using it today, I'm already down to about 10% (with no BT, WiFi, or internet use), just texting and talking for about an hour. Normally the phone would be at 10% with WiFi and Edge use.

Yeah, actually I have noticed this also. I thought it may have been because of using the iPod, because I have been listening to music more often, but the music is on shuffle, and I just go to next with the headphones control, so i doubt it is that. We can't win them all...
I dont really check battery charging times cuz i charge it overnight but the first time i charged my iphone since the update was last night and it was at 20% with 2 days of standby and 8 hours of use
Same for me. Battery took forever to charge. Usually I can get away with charging it in the morning, but it just couldn't get enough for the day. Haven't changed my usage really at all.
Wifi on, BT off, Screen at less then half brightness. Getting me through the day, but much closer to running out. And then takes forever to charge.
Hope they fix this, if it isn't my imagination.

Check your USAGE and STANDBY
I was having a problem as well. I just checked my USAGE and STANDBY stats and they were EXACTLY the SAME. STANDBY should be much larger then actual USAGE. It appears that something on my iPhone is always running.
I POWER RESET and now my STANDBY it moving higher then USAGE. I will try to RECHARGE and see if the problem goes away. I upgraded my Wifes phone and she is not having this problem.

The software simply reports what it thinks battery life is. It has no absolute way of knowing for sure.

After the update, I charged my phone a couple times and I am all good now. I even ran it down, but now it takes longer to get to 20% and when I do it takes A LOT longer to get to 10%.
In short, unless someone consistently drained the phone to the point of being off and now its happening sooner, we will not know for sure. But from my experience, it seems that the battery life is being better reported as an even drain versus a drop-off at the end!

I upgraded (as to whether it's actually an UPgrade is another issue) to 1.1.1 the other day. On Saturday, my phone died. Charged all night and then Sunday, hardly used the phone, it was dead by 6 PM. Charged again, all night, this time from an outlet rather than computer. I just got home and my battery is at 20% and it says Usage is 1h 8m and standby is 6h 17m. So the battery life sucks, but what is perplexing is that I haven't used the phone at all today. Not for internet, mail, texting, ipod, etc... Nada. Where is that 1h 8m coming from?

I think the battery is actually getting drained because mine has drained to dead from almost full overnight in airplane mode, and won't turn on until plugged in, and then took a good two and a half hours to charge, just like it was empty.

I called apple care and they didn't know about anything. I downgraded to 1.0.2 and my battery still sucks, so either its a change in the baseboard or it is coincidental. Im going to the apple store to swap at 7.
I agree with what everyone is saying. My battery was excellent before the 1.1.1 update and now, after the update, it absolutely sucks! I bought my iPhone on June 29th and haven't had any problems until now. Anyway, I called Apple (10/4) and they are sending me a free loaner so they can look at mine. I tried a complete re-flash without restoring from any backups and it didn't correct anything. I have also made sure my WiFi, BT, and mail settings are all turned off. I though I was crazy to think an update would kill battery usage, I guess I'm not too far off base.
WOW so happy to find this. I thought it was me. I only had the phone for a week before I updated so i wasnt exactly sure if i had changed some setting to cause this to happen, but I have noticed a serious loss in longevity from the battery. I had it fully charged this morning, sent 3 emails and made 2 on e minute calls played no music or video and now the battery is at half. I haven t changed any setting from before the update and find that the battery is definitely draining faster.
What I may do is charge it back up 100 percent and then let it sit with out using it tomorrow since I do use this as my back up phone. I will report back to let you know how it goes.

I have the email being checked every 10 minutes, the screen is on bright 100% and the wireless is always on.
I know I know these are not optimal battery settings but it did seem to be ok previous to the update, and got me through the day while also being able to play music.
One step further may be to try charging it through the wall and see if ,maybe the update did something that causes the itunes charge to work differently. I honestly dont know but thought I would put that out there.

How does encryption affect battery life? As I understand it, Apple has added lots of on-the-fly encryption to prevent people like myself from unlocking and adding third party apps. Would that affect battery life?
I don't know anything about this kind of stuff so it's just a thought....

Same problem i am also facing. After upgrading to 1.1.1 its draining super fast... I am just wondering .. letz check with

any one checked please post your response from apple.Apple replaced my iphone after I reported these issues. Only problem, I had the same issues when I activated my new phone. Apple said to try restoring as a "new iphone" rather than restoring from backup. I did that and so far, the battery life is much improved. The restore as new seems to have resolved the issue, but I've heard that the fix doesn't work for everyone. Just for a reference point, when I was having the battery issues, I had 1hr 38 mins of usage, and 5 hours 30 mins of standby and my battery was completely dead. Now that I did the restore as new, I'm at 2.5 hours of usage, 13 hours of standby, and I still have ~75% battery left. Hopefully it lasts.
when you say "restoring as a new phone", do mean reset the phone by erasing all content and settings?
i just got my phone a couple of days ago and updated to 1.1.1 yesterday. took it off the charger right before bed last night, woke up 8 hrs later and battery is below the halfway point. 🙁

Here's another one in regard to the battery issue everyone here is having, well everyone on 1.1.1.
I have noticed the small play icon next to the battery icon when on the home page. This has happened several times and always when I'M NOT USING THE IPOD! and NOTHING is being played, just the icon that indicates that something it being played. Could the upgrade be somehow starting the play feature in the iPod?
Could the waning battery power have something to do with some feature being run in the background that I am not aware of?
I will call Apple on Monday and see if I need to restore as a new phone.
One question on the restore as a new phone, will I lose all my contacts if I do that type of a restore?

dont worry. Keep ur unlocked phone and stay in the stone age and never do updates again. I had several 3rd party apps on my phone and all it did was cause problems and the battery was a problem. I had apple replace my phone and I decided to leave it the way they intended it for and the performance has been a 100% better. It amazes me that people will never update their phone just so they can play nintendo and IM or change the look of it. Apple has changed the way cell phones are made and I know it will only get better with more updates and I know they will have more native apps for it too. I guess there are people that will never be satisfied with what they have and expect to have everything right now instead of being patient with apple. They know what they are doing.
