The thread for telling others about
projects you're doing some work on.

A bit like the picture of the day thread in the Digital Photography forum, this thread is for others to get an idea of the kind of work that some people are working in this forum, from home or school projects to nationwide campaigns.

Briefs, pictures, illustrations, costs, deadlines... editorial, copy, type... printing and finishing. Websites and graphics... whatever you want to mention really. :)

--------------------------------------
I have a freelance job about to start which I'm looking forward to doing:

Annual Review for a charity, 16 pages, A3 portrait trimmed (!), saddle-stitched, CMYK on a 230micron (approx 175gsm) very white and smooth uncoated stock called Horizon. Print run: 700-1000

I'll be doing it in InDesign, instead of my usual layout app — QuarkXpress — mainly to keep my hand in in InDesign but also because I want some Photoshop-like transparency with blending modes on certain pages and also because of the type control. Hanging punctuation is a pain in Quark.

Huge A2 spreads means hero shots, plenty of space and a coffee-table book approach to this where the document demands and invites attention on each spread. They want to make a statement. And they want art  ... looking forward to the challenge. I can see quite a bit of Photoshop and Illustrator work ahead of me.

Well this is all very good starting this sort of thread but not all companies would like this sort of info in the public domain.

Some of the work I'm doing is under non disclosure so I wouldn't even consider mentioning anything about it here.

So is this really a good idea to have this topic open for business related projects.

And IIRC there was a bit of an issue regarding posting of rates etc too.

EDIT: maybe having a show some of your own personal work type thread might be more suitable perhaps, bit like the photoshop thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=186050&highlight=phooshop+creations)?

That's up to the designer and their client. Not all clients would mind, there's no need to be that specific; generalities are still interesting. The thread is here for all kinds of projects.

well, without breaking any NDA's...

- collateral and presentation package for a design thinktank/consultancy. includes pamphlets, books, environmental design, presentation templates, graphic language and elements, and anything else i can tack onto the bill. this should wrap up in november. its all 4/4 color on matte 100# text/100# cover with an aqueous coating to keep costs down. i think we are running 2000 of each item. and im moving them from powerpoint to keynote ASAP as powerpoint = satan.

-waiting on a similar project to get signed off on for a large US government entity; this will (hopefully) be about a 1 year project with website, look + feel (not quite branding, more just consistency across all media), presentation templates, motion work for a video, large catalog book, smaller collateral, possibly some posters and conference signage. when the printed matter is done i think its a run of about 20,000 for the catalogs

- silkscreening a bunch of shirts with my girlfriend sometime this weekend

- redeploying my website/new business cards/personal identity

- redesigning my portfolio

- developing a few syllabi for some elective classes i want to teach this spring

- working on a personal self-authored "project x" that i cannot talk about in more detail.

- working on developing a project to fit into a domain name i own with a friend from design school - we have an idea but not really moved forward on it yet

I have to do a book cover design for school. I don't know what I'm doing with it or where it is going, but whatever. Maybe I'll post pics of it later.
