i have a 5gb Ipod that formated for windows

i just sold my pc.. waiting for my g5
i can no longer sync my ipod until i get my g5
so once i get the g5 i will format the ipod for mac.
i dont want to loose the mp3s that are already stored on it
yesterday i pluged my ipod into my friends imac.. the ipod showed up and in i tunes i saw the list of mp3's but i could really do anything with them

can't help you with reformatting the iPod but backing up the mp3s is easy. you could just leave the files on your Wintel HD and burn a handful of CDs (data not audio), or you could wait until you get the G5 and just network them, it's very simple with Rendesvous. or you could back them up to a FireWire HD. basically whatever is easiest for you. it's just a simple matter of getting the data from one machine to the next.
as for the iPod, do a google search. i'm pretty sure it's easy to do. might even just work when you plug it in to the Mac. shouldn't be a big deal. check the iPod discussions over at the Apple website for a good answer. and enjoy that G5!

when you get your G5 you will want to download a program that will extract your mp3's from your ipod you can get one at www.ipodlounge.com
just go to downloads and look for one in OSX

Alright, I am going to tell you the best way to extract your songs.
1) On ( I guess this would be your friends mac), open up the Hard Drive
Go to Applications---->Utilities---->Terminal
*For step 2, you may want to name your ipod something that is one word so spaces dont mess you up.*
2*)Type cd /Volumes/nameofyouripodhere/iPod_Control
3) Type
cp -r music /Users/nameofaccountyouareon/desktop
4) Wait for a while, and walla, you are done!
If you have trouble Ill be happy to help more.
