Is anyone actually getting 1.8Ghz G5?

Is that me or it seems that all people i see here are getting either 1.6 or dual 2.0 G5s?
It seems to me that 1.8 just isnt a good value.... Sure they increased speed by 200Mhz and put a different motherboard, but cmon, does it justify 500 bucks increase in price?
It seems to me to me if you can get 2500 bucks for 1.8, it's much better to just add another 500 bucks and get 2x of a computer!
Pricing is messed up! Maybe they will lower 1.8 soon :)

1.6 = $1999.99
1.8 = $2299.99
2.0 = $2999.99

Yes, 200 MHz, which gives 100 Mhz faster bus. That different mobo also has PCI-X, a higher ram capacity, and a larger hard drive. Plus it is actually only 400 dollars more. Not that much of a bad deal.

Still the 1.6 and 1.8 GHz models are not a good value when compared to the dual 2.0 GHz IMO.

The major difference between the 1.6 GHz and 1.8 GHz is the max RAM is 4 GB higher.

Takeing into acount the faser proc, faster bus, more ram, and pcix, yes I would say that the 1.8 model is priced just about right.

200mhz is 200mhz. I have sevral macs in my office that are not even 200mhz.

Considering the extended capabilities of the motherboard of the 1.8 GHz, I find the 1.6 GHz machine to be the wrong choice.

It has the minimum to be considered part of the line but doesn't have the guts to really prove it.

I wonder why they didn't give them all the same specs aside from the processors and make them all duals?

Charge a bit more for them all, that way they are all reasonably good for value.

Even i myself would buy the 2Ghz, i wouldn't think twice about the others unless i could upgrade them.

Even still, have the other 2 as singles but have them as duals as BTO and adjust pricing as needed.

Apple should in future just send me an email whenever they want something priced up.

nope no one is getting a 1.8

from one report i read from the 100,000 g5 orders apple has recieved 35,000 were 1.6 G5's and 65,000 were the dual 2ghz G5's

they did mention that one ol' lady from nantucket ordered the 1.8 then when she realized what she did she canceled and ordered the 1.6 instead.. what a relief!

if you cant tell............im being Silly! :D

I'd say you have it backwards. The 1.6 is the machine that's priced wrong. They should keep the price on the 1.8 where it is and charge less for the 1.6. On the 1.6 you're missing the pci-x and the memory capacity is halved. They should be charging less for the 1.6 because you're not getting the infrastructure that you're getting with the 1.8 and dual-2.0.

That maybe true, but really do you think mst people would want to install more than 4 gigs of ram in a computer?
And PCI X... well i guess it is useful, but I can live with an older version.

So you want an outdated machine? You can live with it now, how about one year from now? Two? Three? Just because it is adequate for now, doesn't mean it will be tomorrow.

I have 1.8 on order. I picked it for several reasons.

1. I think the 1.6 falls short on specs when compared to the 1.8 and 2.0. When spending this much money I have to think about the long term (5-6 years).

2. The 2.0 seems overkill for I do. I used the the cost savings to upgrade to the 20" display.

I have a feeling the 1.8 will be a very nice mid range computer. :D
