I received iphone as gift. We later learned we could not put it on our business account. What a pain when you own your own business. Then after hours with ATT and apple they tell me I cannot use the same number. I have my number with all my customers and my 4 children and their school. Then as final insult the ATT/Cingular customer service person was speaking to the business person and somehow forgot to put me on hold and I heard their "rude" conversation concerning my desire to keep my same number.

You should be able to keep ypur previous cell number if you cancel the contract with the other provider. At least, everyone was doing that on iDay

AT&T Business is his provider. AT&T's rule is that a business number cannot be converted to a consumer one. Just their rules...

I hope you caught the name of your service representatives. Problems with converting the number aside, you should not have had to put up with said representative bad mouthing you while you still were on the line! Yes they do this anyway when you aren't around, who doesn't. But it is extremely unprofessional. In my experience if you are blantantly disrespected by a customer service agent and bring it up to management you may win out somehow. A trick I learned from somone who negotiates for a living: Be even toned, stress that the behaviour of the agent was unprofessional, at best, and politely request that the company attempt to rectify the situation. Yes even use those words. If they ask, well, what do you suggest, don't go demanding all sorts of unreasonable compensation. Be calm and suggest back that the management find a way to apporpriately and professionally handle the situation. It works, especially if you manage to do it all without raising your voice.

i'm sorry, but it was known since before the iPhone was out that it wouldn't work on business accounts, just look at the numerous threads here about it.
