How many of you have been to an In-N-Out burger? They make the BEST hamburgers in the world!

Fresh beef, fresh tomatos, fresh lettuce (you can see them washing it in the back), and fresh cut potatos for french fries.

I usually order 2x Double-Doubles Animal Style. Or 1x Cheeseburger and a 4by4.

A 4by4 is 4 pieces of meat, 4 slices of cheese. Soooo good...

Check them out!

I think we had a best burger thread a while back and In-N-Out was mentioned quite a bit. I had an opportunity to make a visit earlier this year when I was in San Diego. They're good, but there is a small chain here in DC that makes better ones - Five Guys.

Good burgers, but I hate getting preached to by my burger wrapper so I don't go there anymore.

I guess this will slowly turn into a "Who do you think makes the best burgers?" thread but I have to say that the one time that I've had an In-B-Out Burger in Las Vegas, I didn't like it at all. It was all smushed and wet and gross. I'm sure it was just one bad experience, but my favorite burger has gotta be a Double Cheeseburger from Braums'. I don't know if they have Braums' anywhere besides the South, but it's just utterly wonderful as far as a Burger and fries combo go. . . cheap too.

Yea, that would suck to get one like that. In-N-Out is pretty cheap too. Its like 1.50 for a cheeseburger, and 2.50 for a Double Double

the best thing about cooking beef yourself is all the poo from the cow intestines that ends up in your sink, on your hands, etc..

Same here, I usually pull meat off at about 125 - 130 degrees, but chicken doesn't come out until it hits 160.

Hehe, I never use the thermometer things though. When I cook a burger patty (on a grill), I usually wait until blood starts to rise on one side, then I flip it. Once juice starts rising on the other side, I flip it again, put cheese ontop, let it melt, then take it off.

The higher priced food is actually good, but the 99 cent menu is terrible.

Yeah I actually got one because of my paranoia about chicken. I was always cooking the hell out of it just to be safe and I got sick of dry chicken. Now the chicken is moist and delicious! Meat's pretty easy to guage with your finger though.

All I ever heard was "In and Out" when I moved out here to California. I will admit it is good, but I think it is just what people grew up on out here.

My personal favorite burger comes from a chain in Nebraska called Runza. The swiss mushroom burger is so good.

Best in California is FatBurger. In and Out is cheap, but it ain't THAT good.

I love those burgers... a 3x3 is the best, IMHO. Their fries, on the other hand, are crap. Wendy's has the best fries. At jack in the box, the Sourdough Jack is the best thing there.

I used to get them without meat. They called them grilled cheeses, even though they had lettuce, tomato, smothered with ketchup, fries (those were good), and a chocolate milk shake to wash it down. Pretty good for fast food. Alas, there are no In-and-Outs up here (Tacoma, WA area). No Carls Jr. either, not that I miss that much.

I cook at home a lot anyway, so... no biggie.

Never tried an In-an-Out. I don't know if there are any in the austin area.

Personally, I don't think it gets better than a junior bacon cheeseburger from wendy's :), though.

$0.99 for a great tasting burger?!?!

3 of those + a drink = a cheap, good meal.

and as a disclaimer I would like to say that I did not ever say that it is healthy - just good. ;).

The only fast-food burgers I eat anymore are from a chain in Denver called Good Times. Their Big Daddy Double Bacon Cheeseburger is excellent. Their crispy chicken sandwich ain't too bad, neither. I've heard all this hoopla about In-N-Out, but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

I've never had a good Burger Really from any chain restaurant, I remember some place in washigton gave me this great really big buger, we even asked if the burger was good before ordering (I was like 12 at the time...)

Me: Is it a good burger?
Waiter: Yes, it is a great Burger.
Me: Okay, good.

:waiter brings out food:

:I look at burger:
That must be atleast a pound!
Waiter: Yeah probably.

It was great, never gone back tho.. :(

I love In-N-Out. I think it's a lot better than McDonalds, Burger King, Jack In The Box, Carl's Jr., Wendy's, ok I'll stop. It's also cheap. I usually get a Double Meat (Double Double with no cheese) sans Thousand Island dressing and with onions. Put it with an order of fries and a soda and you've got an excellent meal on the cheap. And I like being cheap.

I did not grow up on IN-N-Out and was introduced to the heavenly piece of meat about 6 years ago. From the first bite I was a believer and forever an In-N-Out advocate. Jack doesn't deserve to be in the same email let alone compared to In-N-Out. Yea its great grease but not even close to the godly. 4x4? Try the 5x5. It will put some hair on your chest. I recently watched someone order a 20x20. Friggin' amazing. I don't see how you could possibly finish a thing like that but whatever floats your boat.

Since I just drove from Floriduh to California, I tried a lot of burgers and Tacos.

In-n-Out was good but not the best.
Whattaburger in Texas was okay, but not quite as good as In-n-Out.
Rally's/Checkers was better than both and less expensive.
Jack in the Box was good.

Hardees/Carl's Jr. still has the best burgers. Burger King does good for a really big chain. Backyard Burger has the best burgers around Orlando.

They're not burgers but in So Cal, Wienerschnitzel had great sandwiches. Del Taco had burgers as well as tacos--their fries were great and their fish tacos were good. Rubio's fish taco's were great.

I had a burger made from Kobe beef once, but it only cost $10.00. It was good, but I don't think I would have known it was anything other than regular beef if the menu hadn't said so. Maybe it was the lower quality Kobe...
In N Out burger is very good. When I moved to Phoenix I had it for the first time and couldn't get enough of it. But now I'm sick of it and don't really go there much anymore.

Lookie what I found! From HERE (http://www.zenlemur.com/innout.shtml):

"SECRET MENU
Here's the listing of how to order like a pro. My personal choice? "Double-DoubleŽ Animal style, no pickles"

"Animal Style" - bun is grilled with mustard, sauteed onions instead of raw, pickles, extra "special sauce" - [this can also be applied to fries (Note: I recently tried this on fries, but don't personally recommend it / Nov. 2, 2003)]

"Wish Burger" - no meat, i.e. veggie burger

"Protein Style" - lettuce wrapped around the burger instead of a bun for all of you who are in "The Zone"

Update 12/23/2003 - there is no such thing as "Old Fashioned Style" - originally I had this listed as "ketchup and mustard instead of the weird special sauce" but that is incorrect as a call from In-n-Out today revealed.

"Flying Dutchman" - two meat patties with two slices of cheese. that's it.

"Double Meat" - Double Double without cheese

"4x4" - 4 meat patties with 4 slices of cheese. Are you SURE you can eat that?

"2x4" - 2 meat patties with 4 slices of cheese for the fromage afficionado

"Grilled Cheese" - cheeseburger, sans meat

"Fries - well done" - get your fries extra crispy and brown the way you like them!

"Choco-Vanilla Swirl Shake" - just what it sounds like Note: this is not an official secrent menu item, but at most In-n-Out Burgers they will make it if asked for... 12/23/2003

"Neopolitan Shake" - a blend of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shakes.

BIBLE PHRASES

Ever wonder what the little bible quotes sneakily hidden on the In-N-Out paper packaging mean? Ever wonder if they have anything to do with the fact that only blonde children work here? Let's investigate:

REVELATION 3:20 (burger and cheeseburger wrappers): Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

JOHN 3:16 (soda cups): For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

PROVERBS 3:5 (milkshake cups): Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (thanks to Robin Wright for the correction)

NAHUM 1:7 (Double-Double wrapper): The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.

This reminds me of a story...

I was in the drive thru lane and my friend who was driving, and thus in charge of ordering, happened to not be born in the U. S. of A. and as such, was not familiar with some of our colloquialisms, so to speak. Anyway it went a little something like this:

Friend #1: Hey, do you like pickles on your burger?
Friend #2: Yeah.
Friend #1: How about extra dressing?
Friend #2: Yeah.
Friend #1: Then you should order it "doggie" style.

So Friend #2 proceeded to pull up to the drive thru menu thingy and ordered a "double-double doggie style." After about five seconds of stone cold silence from the poor girl taking our order she replies, "Do you mean 'animal' style?"

Seven years later, this is still hillarious. :p

They just weren't anything special - I've had much better else where - and those skinny, thin fries are far from my favorite. I only eat fries about 1 or 2 times a month (in Indiana, that's a tough thing to do) so I want to make sure I get good ones....

that's kind of flawed logic. the reason burgers should be cooked well done all the time isn't because of unsanitary grinders but because of surface area. the surface of a cut of meat is where the disease causing bacteria are. the inside of the cut is normally fine. this is why you can cook a steak rare and still be okay, because the outside of the piece of meat gets to an acceptable temperature despite the interior staying "cold".

When you grind meat, the surface of the meat gets all mixed through, so the bacteria becomes dispersed everywhere. This is why you should cook your burgers well done all the time.

Awesome movie. :)

In-N-Out (http://www.in-n-out.com/)
Then you would be jealopus to know I have an In-n-Out just down the road less then 5 minutes away from me.

I also love planes too, it doesn't get better than a great burger and watching planes from the boulevard.

I used to frequent the In-N-Out in Hacienda Heights when I lived in Southern California many moons ago. In Southwest Florida we have Jucy Lucy's. Pretty much the same thing. Love the cheeseburger with grilled onions :D

I work within walking distance from there. :)

Had a 3x3 Animal Protein style, medium rare, with extra fried mustard for lunch on thursday.

Word.
Lookie what I found! From HERE (http://www.zenlemur.com/innout.shtml):
[I]
"SECRET MENU
Here's the listing of how to order like a pro. My personal choice? "Double-DoubleŽ Animal style, no pickles"

That list is missing the "Animal Fries". (well done fries with melted cheese and grilled onions)

I've lived down here for over 10 years and I still haven't gone to one of those. Will have to try it soon :)

Hmm...maybe you had a bad experience, because the ones I've had there have always been very good. I'm not saying they're the best, but for a chain they're pretty damn good.

Here in NYC, I'm going to have to suggest Jackson Hole.

Those of you in Texas, is Schlotsky's (sp?) still around? They're a sandwich place, not a burger house, but as a former Texan myself I simply loved their sandwiches. Heard that they are facing Chapter 11.

yeah, schlotzky's is still around and yeah, they are going bankrupt. there are a few franchises that will stick around, but you see closed shops everywhere you go it seems. my x-gf was working for a guy that was thinking about buying them out, so i got some inside info on the deal before it really became public. too bad for the 'funny name, serious sandwich.' schlotzky's, without a doubt, is the one of the best deli sandwiches made. you ever go to the original shop in austin? i love it! i just get a cool feeling when i'm in there. no shirtzky, no shoezky, no schlotzky.

and as far as burgers go, the best around here in waco is tom's burgers. i know that most people aren't going to be spending their summer vacations here, but if you're ever in town you should definitely look it up. the way they toast the buns is the key i think. i had one just day before yesterday. mmmmm, mmmmm good.

Yeah, I saw it, and I realized I had created it way back when. Everytime I read this thread it makes me want to go and get a burger. Tonight I'm having a burrito though, home made!
