View Full Version : List of iPod Touch problems so far

I have no idea if it's the new firmware or not, but I've noticed that I have a lot of problems on the Touch I never ran into before the update or on any other iPods I've owned. Here's a list of what I have encountered so far, feel free to add your own.
1. Songs not playing (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=364122, and http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=363464)
2. Smart Playlists not working, seems like the iPod does not sync up the play counts from iTunes (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=363398)
3. Songs finish playing then repeat the same song (without actually playing the song) instead of going to the next song
4. Cover art not displaying (could be that it just takes a while to load, but sometimes it'll just never load anything at all, no matter how long I wait)
5. While browsing in coverflow, after a certain point the screen will black out and take me back to the home screen. I've replicated this, so it must be some sort of problem with a certain cover art, or maybe the files are too big, or it's just loaded too much or something.
6. Wi-fi not being able to connect to access points. In the same place where I know there's a good signal, it just won't connect at all, and I'll have to turn the iPod off completely, then power it back up and try again and it will work flawlessly like usual. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=362136)
7. Music stops playing randomly while browsing Safari at the same time
Note that I'm not complaining, well I sorta am, but the point of this isn't to say "the iPod Touch sucks", it's more of a wishlist of bugs I hope they iron out in the next firmware update. Luckily it's mostly minor stuff, but there shouldn't be any problems with music working and the playlist problem is really annoying.

I've been getting that as well. It seems to occur more frequently when double tapping (zooming) in on an image located in the middle of the viewed page.

It's not jsut me then. I'm actually in the process of restoring my iPod because of that, as it happeded every 2 minutes or so.
Then when restoring it failed and I got "this iPod is in recovery mode and must be restored" I love it, but it's giving me a few problems! I'm thinking of caling apple...

This might be user error but I don't see anything on this anywhere else so I thought I would post and find out for sure.
I have a bit of a commute in the morning so I listen to a lot of podcasts/audiobooks on my drive in. On my old iPod Photo the podcasts would always play where they left off if I stopped listening to a podcast/audiobook in the middle, however on my iPod Touch it seems like they always start over at the beginning. This is particularly annoying with audiobooks because it's pretty difficult to find where I left off. Is there something I'm doing wrong here or is this a bug? Has anyone else had this issue?
I'm getting really frustrated by the music stopping/crashing while using safari. It better get fixed in the next firmware update.
I'm also annoyed that it seems harder to get back to the music point you were at. What I mean is that on the old iPod as you click through the menu, you would be taken by default to what is currently playing so you could see that you were playing by artist for example. Now you can jump to now playing but you can't see what logic the playback is. And it annoys me that switching off the iPod completely loses the place you were playing.

Hmm, you only put your Touch to sleep right? As long as I pause what I'm listening to and browse my other music, or go to the home screen, I can put it to sleep and then come back later and it will play where I left off.

If you turn it off completely it dosent leave anything running (because its shutdown) but leave it sleeping the Music app is still running in the background so it remembers where you are. Think of it like a computer, because thats what it really is.

First off I should clarify that I'm not shutting down the iPod in-between plays. Let me explain the scenario I guess and then you can tell me if it's something I'm doing.
I start listening to a podcast on my drive in to work in the morning. I listen to maybe half of the podcast and then arrive at work, so I pause the podcast, turn off the vehicle, unplug the ipod and go inside. During the course of the day I listen to other music while I work. At the end of the day I climb back into my car, plug the iPod back in, and then start up the podcast, and it starts from the beginning.
Now, I'm guessing the issue is that it's not bookmarking where I left off listening to the podcast, but it does do this with videos (in the settings there's a "play where i left off" feature). Is it starting the podcast over becuase I've listened to other stuff in-between? I thought that on my iPod Photo I could listen to half of a podcast, go listen to some music, and then come back to the podcast and it would continue to play where I left off but I could be wrong.
If this is in fact not a bug and this is just the way it works, how the hell are audiobooks supposed to work? I'm supposed to only listen to a book until I've listened to the whole thing? I can't listen to anything in-between? I find that hard to believe, but the same problem I have with podcasts I have with audiobooks.

have discovered a little problem and its with the Time. Its displayed and won't changed from 24h to 12. In the Date & Time adjustment menu, 24-Hour Time is turned off, and the time displayed on the top bar remains in 24 hours.
The weird thing is, in the Set Date & Time menu the dials to spin to change the time show the 12hour clock with AM and PM... however on the same screen, the Dark Blue Highlighted area and the menu bar still show 24hours. If you set the time to 6:00am, its displayed at 06:00... but if you set it to 6:00pm, it become 18:00.
I can't seem to get it to display properly?
I've tried changing Time Zone, and adding/ changing world clock, but still nothing.
How can I fix this? Is this a known bug?

Just tested with my iPod touch and it works perfectly fine. Why don't you reset your touch (General > Settings > Reset > Reset All Settings)

Just tested with my iPod touch and it works perfectly fine. Why don't you reset your touch (General > Settings > Reset > Reset All Settings)
Tried that! - Would You (or anyone) mind checking what happened, when following the directions below about International Settings.
THANKS
I think I have found the problem...
I'm in the UK, so for the General > International > Region Format > Says: United Kingdom... but if I change it to United States. The time appears in 12hours with AM and PM. (Also the 24-Hour Clock ON/OFF works).
Why doesn't this work for UK? We don't all tell/use 24 hour clock!
Leaving it at the United States changes the format for telephone numbers, date ect...ect..
Just found out that this is also the same on the Mac... HOW has this been overlooked?
Anyone know how or where I can bring this to Apple's attention?

haha as i was typing this the music stopped.
Doyou guys have problems with the music stopping on other times aside from within safari...like when walking or something?
And here is. Weeeird problem, do you guys have problems charging the touch with a wall charger? For some reason it won't charge but it will while on a computer?.... I tested the charger with another iPod video and it worked perfectly weird right?
Anyone else having these issues? I can't tell if its my iPod or just the touch in general...

There's definitely a bug there about the 24-Hour Time settings if using UK regional format.

There's another bug that occurs when browsing music on the iPod touch. If you have albums with the same titles (i.e. "Greatest Hits," which I apparently have a lot of) the iPod does not separate these albums in the album view (NOT Coverflow). It completely disregards the artist.
The same bug is also apparent when tapping on the album/track information button in the upper right corner of the now playing screen. All tracks from albums with the same name are displayed in this list, regardless of artist.
Anyone else notice this?

I am so glad to know that others have the issue of the music pausing during safari. It annoys me so much so now I don't bother listening to music whilst using safari. I will when they release an update though.
Ps. This keyboard is awesome!!!!!

Hey,
I downloaded a cheap Audiobook, so see what it was like "The Woman In Black - Classic Ghost Story".
Anyway I noticed that if you listen to it, and put the Touch into Coverflow it appears (that's fine), but if you select an Album (ie. Single) with 1 song on it, the cover art for that album spins but displays all the chapters in the audiobook that you're listening to. It happens on all albums with 1 song, any more than that it displays what is actually on that album.
I don't know if its just that one I download, as i don't have others to test it on.

I dunno if this can be counted as iPod Touch problem, but it doesn't activate iTune on my MBP whenever I connect it. I've got to manually open up iTunes, even though I've set the Touch to open iTunes whenever I connect.

In the 3 units I've had I haven't been experiencing any of those...all 3 of them have at least 1 stuck pixel though. Number 3 is going back tomorrow. Hopefully #4 will be better. It's kinda sad that Future Shop got six iPods to begin with and most of them are defective. Who knows how many it will take to get one with a decent screen.

IMO the 3 biggest problems with the ipod function:
1. Compilation artists show up in 'Artists' view mode. They should be hidden like in previous ipods, noone wants to see a whole bunch of random artists cluttering up their Artist view.
2. Smart playlists are broken. This is a dealbreaker for anyone who uses smart playlists extensively.
3. Albums with the same name get lumped as the same album in Cover Flow. Obvious bug which surely needs to be fixed pretty soon, most obviously affects 'Greatest Hits' albums.

Does this for me too with audiobooks, they always seems to start at last synced place from iTunes on my Mac. Really annoying!

I set my ipod timer and listen to my ipod as I fall asleep every night. On the old ipods, once the timer was set there was a small clock with the amount of time left. This is not on the touch. You must go back into the clock to see how much time you have left.
Once you go back into timer you have to reset it. The time continues to count down but whatever you set it to do must be reset. For example.. I use "sleep ipod" frequently. When I go back into timer I still see the time counting down but now it is back to "time passing" and I must reset the timer to sleep the ipod.
Just a small nuisance but something that the old ipod had covered.

Where do I start
1) It dosent come with a charger
2) The battery life sucks
3) The WiFi sucks
These are the only major problems, there a few other things but they are nothing a few software updates cant fix.
BUT...
1) When I buy a £200 smartmediaplayer (we have smartphones so why not smartmediaplayers, after all, thats what it is :D) I expect it to come with a charger! And not have to pay £20 extra for one!
2) For something that dosent come with a charger, you would think the battery life would at least be decent right? Wrong.
3) Why is it my 802.11b PSP can pick up more networks than my 802.11g iPod Touch? Its also got better range! (The PSP) WTF? Also, theres this network I use all the time, a public hotspot, that hardly ever comes up on the iPT and when it does the connection is very weak, but on the PSP it works every time!

my touch and at least one other user here have an issue where the screen becomes non-responsive and then apps start behaving randomly as if being controlled remotely, e.g. you're watching a movie and suddenly the volume controls appear and the volume starts changing madly - up to full then down to low, then up to 60%, etc. Also if on home page, settings can open and settings start to be changed.

I think that if you have enable disk usage or manually manage music selected it keeps the iPod from auto-opening iTunes. I could be wrong, but it's worth a look.

1) iPods haven't had an AC charger in the box for a long time. I agree it's stupid, but that's life. On the plus side there's tons of 3rd part AC to USB adaptors that will work with the iPod (and anything else that charges on USB) just fine, and they can be had for $10 or less. I have one that has a nice folding plug and will power USB or FW device that cost me $10 at Walmart, it's not as nice looking as the Apple ones, but it use slightly thinner and more useful.
2) Is the battery life as long as Apple advertised it to be? By most accounts, it is, so I don't think you'll get any sympathy for this complaint. Would it be nice if it had a larger capacity battery? Sure, but that would have made it heavier and thicker, so compromises have to be made.
3) I can't speak to the reception range of the Touch. I don't have one... I can sympathize with you, though, in that my brand new $1500 iMac has worse WiFi reception than the (literally) $2 (after rebate) PCI .11g card in my wife's $300 Dell. It is what it is, though.

Something wrinh with the screen, my Nokia 6600 had a similar bug on the "navigational key" (the joystick) and when ever I touched it it would go mad and click everything until I banged it, therefor making the phone useless. Just take your iPod back to the shop and get a replacement.
Also, if you iPod is jailbreaked it has SSH.

hello. This is my first and probably only post, I recieved an iPod touch for Christmas and while I do love it, mine is almost totally useless...
You see, the web browsing works fine, its actually quite nice to use. I'm using it now to write this.
Adding songs is another matter all together.
I have a G4 iMac and pretty much all of my computer parifinailia is Apple brand. But I can't add any more than about 100 songs at a time.
The iPod frequently crashes my iMac, iTunes crashes if I have Safari open and I have to spoon feed the little bugger or Im forced to reset everything.
It was a Christmas present and Im now in the awkward positionof having to ask my partner to return it for a refund.
I had a third generation iPod that did pretty much the same thing but I wouldnt give up on it. This time Im not being as charitable.
I was going to get myself a lovely new macbook to go with my touch, now Ive lost confidence in Apple to make hardware that just works.
They're becoming as bad as all those 'cobble it together' machines I hate so much.
Ho hum, it's not like its an essential bit of kit...

Sounds like you have some corrupt music files. Set the iPod to only sync checked songs and uncheck the "101st song" (the one right after the last one will sync). The fact that you had a 3G do something similar leads me to think it's a bad file. Blaming Apple for it is, well, a little misguided at best.
Think of it like this: there's 5 million iPhones and a few million touches out there (and 100+ million other iPods). Do you think that if everyone had similar issues people would buy them in that ind of quantity? Seriously, it's probably your music.

If this also happened with an old 3G iPod then I would suspect your Mac is the problem.
I would recommend trying to copy song songs onto it from another Mac (or a PC), to see what happens. If you're getting a MacBook anyway, that may make the problem go away.
Unless you just don't like the thing...Mine has been pretty trouble-free. Sometimes I get the music stopping during Safari bug, but that's about it.

Hmmm... well it could be the songs or the Mac, but they both worked fine on my last 80G Video iPod, and on my partners 2G iPod Nano, so I'm not sure why it's suddenly become an issue with this model.
It doesn't crash on a particular song, it just crashes at random.
Sometimes it gets to about 80 or 120 songs, like this afternoon, and sometimes it gets to 3 songs in the list and kills my machine.
The point about the MacBook is that I've lost confidence in apple to produce consistently bug free products. Why would I buy another product to replace my seemingly needlessly defective one? Surely we are all surprised at people who continually re-buy windows machines, and then rage at them for not working properly?
The only apple thing I've ever owned that 'just worked' was the 80G Video iPod, which now belongs to someone else, because they stole it.
I actually love the Touch to bits, it's really lovely and it's like living in the future, but it does all these fancy extras really well, yet I can't get it to do something as basic as load songs.
I've boxed it up to have it sent back three times today, then after about 30 minutes I've gotten it out again all excited and just crossed my fingers and hoped that the threat of sending it back will make it behave.
Do you think it might be because I don't have USB 2.0?
USB 1 is slower, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker, non?

Oh, you didn't mention the bit about it working fine with a 5G iPod! ;)
Hmm...that does seem odd. It might be the older USB 1 interface (though that should still work fine). As another poster suggested, do you notice it happening with any particular songs or albums?
That's a tough call. I mean you still do have a 1-year warranty, but I can see your point. I've had problems occasionally with Apple products, but nothing that wasn't under warranty.
The current MacBooks SHOULD be fine now, but that's no consolation if you happen to have a troublesome unit. I own a first-gen 1.83 CD MacBook. I really like it, but my Bluetooth would intermittently go out and they recently replaced the logic board under warranty. My impression is that Apple products are no worse than others when it comes to reliability, but I can understand that people have higher expectations since Apple products can cost more.
If you have another computer (even PC), I would perhaps try to load songs on your Touch with that, just to see what happens.

Oh, sorry to double post, but yes, I agree that not packing a charger in the box should be classed as a fault, and also that it really should be able to work over firewire (making my 8 1/2G upload take minutes rather than hours).
Other than that, the Touch doesn't mount on the desktop, which I've been told is a feature that they've removed (thanks!) that I used to use all the time.
So I would consider that a problem too.
(now how am I meant to take my files to work?)

Actually, I've got an old 3G PowerBook in the spare room.
If I can find the power cable I'll give that a try.
Oh, the Powerbook makes a really loud clicking sound and puts itself to sleep randomly too!

Right, well the mystery of what my iPod touch thinks its doing deepens.
It's got a load of album artwork wrong and is now refusing to play some songs that have worked fine on all other media playing devices I have. It just waits a couple of seconds and goes to another song it feels like playing in the playlist (these songs seem to be marked with a ! in iTunes - when iTunes can keep it together long enough for me to have a look).
I'm definately having it sent back.
I'll wait until the 3rd or 4th generation touch come out so that Apple will have sorted out all the problems they should have sorted out at launch.
Pfff.

Has anyone heard of it not working at all. I picked up the 32G iPT today and when I plugged it into my notebook and ran iTunes, nothing happened. A Windows screen popped up asking me where I wanted to configure my photos and this was followed by a big nothing. No indication of a new device plugged into the computer and on the iPT screen, the pic of the iTunes mp3icon with a pic of the male piece from the cable that goes into the iPT. My computer seems to be working alright so I don't know what the deal is. Did I get a dud? Am I missing something here?

Do you have iTunes on your computer? If so is it the latest version?
You need a recent version to reconise a iPod Touch.

Also, I set an alarm and a tone to be played, but there was never any sound heard when the alarm was activated. Not sure what's going on there.
You can fix this in settings somewhere. I forget where exactly. Just look around.

Haven't seen mention of this but just found it today. If I browse to my website and authenticate into a password protected directory or directories I can get in fine, access protected content. However, If I want to play an mp3 file through it, I get an error. Lift the password restriction on the directory and the files play fine. Have not tried other formats.
Nothing major, but I would love to use the WiFi capability to use shared resources. I am password protecting the directory in anticipation that I will be putting more private information there in the future for Touch access.

7. Music stops playing randomly while browsing Safari at the same time
8. Random disable time
This one is very rare, although this is he second time it's happened to me. The first time i was listening when it stopped playing. I looked at it and it showed a 15 minute lock time. Confused i waited the 15 minutes and started listening to music again. That was about 3 months ago. Last night i finished listening to my ipod touch, so i put it in my bedside drawer. This morning i took it out the drawer and started to charge it. When i looked at the screen it said i had a :eek:4560220:eek: minute disable time! This is (i did this all in my head so don't get mad if it's wrong :) ) equivalent to 76003.666 hours, or 3166.82 days. THE TOTAL AMOUNT IN YEARS IS ABOUT 8.68 YEARS!!! Whats the point of having an iPod for 6months if it's just gonna freeze itself for the next 8 years. IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME FIX THIS PLeASE TELL ME. I am going to see if i can get it fixed/replaced tomorrow, but if they can't fix it and won't replace it then screw you :apple:A:apple:PP:apple:LE:apple: jk but i will be annoyed

My WiFi has also stopped working entirely since updating. The loading circle just loops endlessly without ever finding networks where I know they exist or deciding that there aren't any. I hadn't tried a hard reset yet, so maybe that'll work. Seems like Apple has quite the dud update on their hands here.

Note that I'm not complaining, well I sorta am, but the point of this isn't to say "the iPod Touch sucks", it's more of a wishlist of bugs I hope they iron out in the next firmware update. Luckily it's mostly minor stuff, but there shouldn't be any problems with music working and the playlist problem is really annoying.
i haven't had any of those problems really with the new firmware, granted i haven't used my Touch a whole lot on the new firmware other than Music, Weather, Stocks and Email. but it's weird that you're getting all these little bugs everywhere...

For all you people have problems with that, it's understandable.
If you listen to Punk music at all, they do lots of splits (albums) and they obviously would get put in the same album.
If you have the same album name, they should clumped together in Cover Flow.
Just my 2 cents. :D

Update--I fixed it! I remembered that I had to reset all settings and so the caps lock on toggle reverted to off. Found it in the keyboard settings under the iPod's general settings feature.
Is/did anyone else have a problem with the new 2.2.1 firmware? The only thing I've noticed is that I no longer have a CAPS lock option with my keyboard.
If this is something other than the upgrade, I'm open for suggestions.

I dunno if this can be counted as iPod Touch problem, but it doesn't activate iTune on my MBP whenever I connect it. I've got to manually open up iTunes, even though I've set the Touch to open iTunes whenever I connect.
I had this problem on my PC and the culprit was I turned off a background process called "iTunes Helper" that would run in the background all the time. When I turned it off, iTunes stopped opening when I plugged any of my iPods into my computer.
Once I finally figured out that this was the problem, I left it alone and let it run and have not had any trouble since.

I believe there is a max page count but did you try re-downloading via your computer or the wireless store? You can re-download any app at no cost that you previously purchased.

Every time after i charge my iPod, none of my downloaded applications will open. I will click on one of them and the start up screen will appear for the app, but then it will disappear and i will be brought back to the main menu. Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

I have an error..
Okay, my iPod would not open applications so I decide to turn off my iPod then turn it back on. When I held down the top button to turn it off the "Shutdown" option would not appear. When I let go of the button it went to sleep. When I awoke my iPod from Sleep, it required a password, like it always does.. So, I try to enter my password, but when I press the numbers for the password they do not display. My iPod would not unlock. This error was finally fixed once I restored my Factory Settings..
Still.. it was a hassle.

Last several months I am running into a weird problem with my 2nd gen ipod touch. After running any app for few minutes , the app quits and takes me back to the home screen with a semi-transparent window in the centre showing the music album ( with Play, forward, volume buttons). This happens even if I am not playing any music, the app just quits and goes back to Home with this screen coming on and off periodically.
Also, when this happens if I press the On/Off switch it takes the picture of the screen ( I believe it thinks it is an iphone). Its very weird and annoying. My photo section has several photos of the screen taken due to this bug. I don't know if this is software bug or something else. I tried deleting everything and restored to factory defaults , still I see this issue.
Is this known/ seen by anyone else? Its extremely annoying.
Thanks

i was just playing a game (ping pong w/c lite) on my ipod and i accedentally clicked ''buy now''
the screen then froze and unable to click the home screen due to the ipod freezing i was forced to put it to sleep. i then reactevated it and it seemed fine,
(note- it was charging at the time), but once i unplugged it it did not realize that it was unplugged, and when i went to put in my password, the buttons didnt click, and i could not get back ton the ipod, like it's stuck in the lock screen.
it can however, still play music, by pressing the home butten twice to open the player.

May 31, 2009, 05:50 PM
Also, theres this network I use all the time, a public hotspot, that hardly ever comes up on the iPT and when it does the connection is very weak, but on the PSP it works every time!
whats all this about bad battery life, my 2G touch lasts for ages?

With all these problems, should I wait for the 3g ipod touch?
iPhone 1: First generation iPhone
iPhone 2: iPhone 3G
iPhone 3: iPhone 3GS
iPod touch 1: First generation iPod touch
iPod touch 2: Second generation iPod touch
iPod touch 3: Third generation iPod touch
There is no 3G iPod touch, there will be a G3 however.
If you can wait, then do it. If you really want one now then get one. A new one won't be out until September. There really aren't that many problems with the iPod touch. I doubt you would notice any if you got one today. I got a first generation, with the original firmware and I hardly noticed any issues. The only problems I can recall where times when the iPod would call itself a phone.

Has anyone had a problem syncing their Outlook Calendar to the iPod touch. I have a PC with Outlook 2007. I have an iPod with 3.0, have restored the iPod, after I downloaded the latest iTunes.
My problem: I have multiple calendars (6) on my iPod, each one differentiated by a colored dot. They don't have the same information in them, some less some more than others. Only the one with a blue dot seems to reflect the actual Outlook Calendar on the PC. On the iTunes sync screen there is the option to select "All" calendars and it I do this then there are multiple entries for the same item on the calendar on the iPod, eg, "call Mike" might appear (4) times. Even if I select sync with the "selected" calendars and pick one of them, when it syncs, it automatically selects all of the calendars (6) that are listed on that screen.
Has anyone had this problem and know what the solution is? Thanks in advance for any help.

haha as i was typing this the music stopped.
Yes, I have the same problem with charging my ipod touch in the wall this has become a big problem  because I am a painter and I listen to my ipod a lot while I paint and therefore I am not always around my computer to be able to charge it. Plus because you are unable to take the battery out of it we run the risk of having to send the ipod back to apple to get it fixed and wait forever to get it back and have to pay tons of money too. Also don't even call for help from :apple: because they will also charge your for that I have heard it costs $50! I got my ipod touch for Christmas I have only been using it for about a week and have been recieving a major headach from it. Why can't you delete certain starting aps on the ipod straight from the ipod itself? Why is it that they say that you can upload your stuff on up to five computers but then it says it will wipe everything and sync it to the new computer? I think apple is money hungry and is not very good with costumer service!
Perhaps you need to learn something about your new device.

The Touch battery should last all day if all you are doing is listening to music. Put it into sleep mode after setting music to play. Charge it at night. Some iPods do not work perfectly with all dock connectors, esp 3rd-party cords. Wiggle it, does it start working? If so, it doesn't have a perfect fit for your iPod, try a different cord. I have one that works to play music easily, but if I want it to charge, I have to have the cord pulling in the right direction.
You have 90 days free phone service, yours is new enough to qualify. If you have an Apple Store near you, it's free to have them check it out anytime. There is a specific charge for a new battery if out of the 1 year warranty period.
The standard Apple apps cannot be deleted from the Touch. I guess if that is a complete deal breaker, pm me to send the Touch here.
You don't have your Touch set right if you want to pull data from more than one PC. Fix the settings and it will work.

I just got a 32GB iPod Touch for Christmas, and only in the last few weeks began having issues with it. I hope someone can tell me what the problems might be.
1. I listen to a lot of podcasts, and I have my iTunes set to only sync unplayed podcasts. So now when I listen to a podcast, it will mark it as played or partially played, but when I sync to the macbook again, it sees it as a new podcast. I keep getting podcasts I've already listened to marked as new when I sync my iPod again.
2. When listening to podcasts, my voice control randomly comes on and searches for music. I assume that there is something wrong with my microphone on the headphones, and that it constantly thinks the button is being pressed, but it's not.
3. The weirdest thing, which makes me think my iPod is possessed, is that I'll have an app open (usually happens with Words With Friends) and the app will suddenly close, the iPod will scroll through my different home panels, and stop at the search page all by itself. I turned off the wifi to see if that would affect it, but it happened right after I did that.
Thoughts?

This happens even if I am not playing any music, the app just quits and goes back to Home with this screen coming on and off periodically.
Also, when this happens if I press the On/Off switch it takes the picture of the screen ( I believe it thinks it is an iphone). Its very weird and annoying. My photo section has several photos of the screen taken due to this bug. I don't know if this is software bug or something else. I tried deleting everything and restored to factory defaults , still I see this issue.
Is this known/ seen by anyone else? Its extremely annoying.
Thanks
Yes! This has been happening to me too.

I just tried restoring my iPod Touch after reading about all of these errors, and got a message that my restore was complete and that my iPod would show in iTunes. Then iTunes told me that it saw a device in recovery mode and that I would need to restore it to use it. WTF?
I restored again, and again, and still same message: I need to restore it. Can anyone help me?
I'm currently in the process of installing the latest version of iTunes and updates to my Macbook in the hopes that this might help.

I'm having what I think are problems with my home button on my first gen iPod touch. I'm on the third iPod touch I've had (first one got sent back b/c of a bad headphone jack; second got sent back b/c of no wifi reception) under the original one year warranty.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think when I double click the home button it's supposed to wake the iPod from sleep; it's not doing that right now. I can click it 7, 8, 9, 10 times, and I get nothing. I think have to click the top button once, and then a second time to wake it from sleep. I don't think I'm doing anything differently than I was on my previous two touches, but I could be wrong...
Is this a problem other folks have seen or experienced? It seems like it from other things I've read.

Bought an iPod Touch 3g back in october '09. On last thursday it was working right, used it in the morning, turned it off when arriving at work. When I wanted to use it on my lunch time it simply wouldn't turn on. A black screen, that's all I had.
When I came back home I began to read how to reset it, boot it in DFU Mode, I tried everything but nothing worked, so I called Apple. They sent me a box to ship it back to them, but tonight the DFU trick worked (holding the home button while plugging the USB).
The first thing I did was to restore it, and let it go full charge (the battery was completely drained). And now, even if everything is back, if I unplug the USB, it will keep on working, going onto sleep mode after a few seconds and if I hit the Home button the screen pops back up normally, but if I hit the power button to "put it to sleep mode manually", it won't come back. I hit the button and nothing happens, I keep holding it nothing happens.
Even if the battery is full charge, it will only turn on when plugged onto USB AND if I do the reset thing. That sucks. I will have to call Apple tomorrow to tell them about the developments. I thought I had my ipod back, now I'm gonna lose it for 2 weeks.

I just got a 32GB iPod Touch for Christmas, and only in the last few weeks began having issues with it. I hope someone can tell me what the problems might be.
Thoughts?
This one sounds like the home button is damaged. Pressing it closes the application. Pressing it again brings you to your actual home screen. Pressing it a 3rd time brings you to the search screen. Sound familiar?

Sounds like a dead battery. Tip: Lithium batteries should not be completely drained. Ever. You can destroy them like this. The iPod should protect against this, but don't play games with lithium, it is a tech trait of the battery, not the iPod.
Both of you need to get with Apple, they'll replace them if necessary. Backup before sending it in, if possible.

You should only have to click Home once to wake from sleep. (and then slide to unlock) Single-click the power button should also wake from sleep, clicking Power again should put it back to sleep. You also have something weird, perhaps.

Thanks yeah, I will send it to them today. Hope it's not gonna take a month to get it back. Damn portable devices...
Edit: I don't know if that's the battery though; I let it go full charge and it took about 40 minutes. Now when it shuts down and I replug it and do the DFU trick and it comes back on after 5 minutes, the battery shows it's full... Does that means something to you?

If you've tried restoring it to factory settings (one of two options when doing a restore) and then resyncing and that doesn't work, then it is probably a hardware issue and you should call or take it to Apple.

Hi, I just received my free ipod touch about a month ago when I purchased a macbook pro and all has been fine until this morning while listening to music and walking.. I entered a wifi area and music stops, screen goes black and I have a white apple logo in the middle. It doesn't allow me to do any functions. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for your help.
