I've never understood why anyone would think it's ok to post in one forum to announce another forum. Would you walk into a dinner party and invite everyone to your own dinner party across the street?

Back when the web was BBSs, maybe this was Kosher (still tacky), but now that traffic=$, I think it's just plain rude.

I would totally do that... hijack dinner guests... that sounds like fun

Your counterexample is weak as it supposes that you can't be in two places at once. For a dinner party clearly that is true, but that doesn't follow for forums. You can be at two forums at once, in fact I am at three right now.

Traffic does = $, but since you can be at two forums at the same time no one loses traffic. Instead, people here gain a new resource by which to use. You can't make the assumption people are going to leave here just because they know about this place or that this is the OPs aim.

Of course, here you can question the intentions of the action. Does this poster own the site and thus wants traffic? Or is this poster simply sharing information with the community. Same applies for the party crasher. Is that person doing it to get more people at his party thus making it more rad? Or does that person simply want to share information, for example maybe both these parties are for social networking.

Long response I know, but I find your post, which is full of assumptions, to be immensely more tacky than what you purport the OP as doing.

I've never understood why people would think that someone's free speech rites for some reason dont apply to this board?

Are you kidding me? Maybe its a little out-of-line but you HAVE to be kidding me!

Maybe because there is no such thing as free speech on a privately owned board?

Free speech does not mean you can walk into your neighbors house and start saying what ever the hell you want... It means the government can not stop you from saying what you want in the public arena.

ALso not the OP has only one post here - its blatant spam.

The person who wrote the post was GIVEN PERMISSION by the PRIVATELY OWNED BOARD to post... SO the person was GIVEN PERMISSION by the PRIVATELY OWNED BOARD to give his views, opinions, etc.

And your example is totally rediculous... He was given permission into his "neighbors house" when his membership to this board was accepted. He didnt HACK into the board!

I'm not saying its right... but for anyone to sit here and make a point of asking the question what makes him think he can post it is rediculous... LIKE MOST POSTS ON HERE LATELY!

Where was he given permission? Most people who are given permission do not apologize if its inappropriate in advance.

Where was he given permission?

When he joined up for this board... on this site. Once his information was accepted by macrumors he was given permission to post... period.

Again I'm not saying its not total spam, just nonsense to then question why he would do it. That's quite obvious.

I don't own the other forum. Its owned and run by the people that own and run ... I am a moderator over there and am not looking to hijack or whatever you people are claming. I have lurked on these forums for a while. I finally had something to post so I posed it. Sorry for invading your precious space. I was just trying to make people aware there is another vauable resource. Was not trying to steal people.

You people should be ashamed for just jumping all over me. I was just trying to provide yet ANOTHER resource. Was not looking to cause any trouble. Sorry for bothering you.

kinderco, seeing as that most or all people with interest in your site owns an iPhone, it'd be cool if it has a simple lo fi version to view on the iPhone using edge.

and also censor those that perpetuate off topic posts by responding to them. And that includes this post.
BTW, it's spelled "enforce." :)

honestly, no forums have it that way. Howard forums and macrumors.com forums don't have a special iphone version. It doesn't take that long to load up. (At least on mine.)

Also as I mentioned earlier I am a moderator over at <snip> not the owner. I was just trying to reach out to the community and let them know of the new resource. Wasn't trying to take people away from this forum just simply saying hey there is a new resource for you if you would like to join. You CAN be a member of two forums ya know.

Uhhhh, isn't the information public though? I hope you don't read more than one book on the same topic by different authors. You'll be in big trouble then.

Also I can't count how many posts I have read that referred to articles on modmyiphone and everythingiphone. I'm glad he posted it. I like <snip>

Back when the web was BBSs...

Ahh, the good ol' days. I was the only kid in college, with four phone lines coming into my apartment, none of which were for voice usage. Lol. and people thought you couldn't get four modems and a BBS (Renegade... go Cott Lang!) to run in Windows 3.11.

Good times, good times in deed. :D
