View Full Version : Could this system determine iMac's future ?

This system could potentially give Apple alot of headaches in the next several months. Core 2 Quad (65NM ) processor, a fast FSB , 3 GB Ram, 500 GB Hard drive, ect. It is true that it doesn't have 45 NM processors and may require more cooling fans. time to update the iMac ? Despite the need for Windows on that Gateway system , I might understand the temptation for people buying this. Circuit City paired this with a 19 " HD widescreen display and Canon printer for $1100 this week. I love the newest iMac design but the Gateway system doesn't seem to bad to me so far.

I doubt it, its cpu is on par with Mini. Please.

Thanks! Caught that. This machine looks like a plain boring desktop. They've always been cheaper than an iMac.

Pointless thread.

How does this have anything to do with iMac future? There have always been computers that have technically been better "deals" than the iMac, like cube said, no OSX, no sale.

The same way the $200 third world laptop does, give something people can point to.

But the new Yugo of this generation. The $3000 Renault can also do that.

Though it's not like you will enjoy using either, especially when you find out their limits and level of included luxuries compared to the normal fare.

Anyhow the iMac is built using the more expensive laptop components, so it really isn't fair to compare it to anything other than Santa Rosa machines.

When was the last time Gateway even competently dictated their own direction, let alone anyone else's or set the tone for the industry? 1997? Please. This is yet another boring desktop computer that'll get also-ran in minutes by other boring desktops by HP and Dell.

Well they did have the nice cow pattern boxes back in the early 90s and were still based in South Dakota.

Haha, that's why I said 1997! ;) Who knows, they might come back. But I think the only way they could be in poorer shape is if they hired General Petraeus as their CEO.... :eek:

Plus owning an iMac makes everyone go oooh and ahhh when they see it.

I purchased mine just after I moved into a new house, didn't have any TV or internet hookup yet, so I had a lot of traffic in the house, so many people complimented on it. You don't get that with a clunky old black and grey Gateway tower. Even the last PC I built, with dual monitors, and a pretty above average looking tower, never got any compliments on it, cause it looked just the same as Franks Dell down the street pretty much.

Owning a Mac isn't just about owning a computer, it's more than that. It makes you feel good using it.

Now that I have contributed way too much to this pointless thread, over and out :P

The One looks OK but yes, they are going downhill fast.

I think Conan O'Brien did a skit where he called Gateway tech support, couldn't get the help he needed over the phone so he had a guy bring it there.

I dunno if it was really Gateway but it was some computer company with Indian tech support, which is like... All of them?
