View Full Version : G5s arriving in Germany

Yesterday I was at my local Apple dealer (GRAVIS, Berlin-Charlottenburg) here in Berlin and by accident I was there just one hour after they received their first boxes with G5 1.6GHz machines. They just unpacked one (as a demo machine) and were setting it up, doing some Photoshop benchmarks. Sorry, that I didn't have the time to play with it, but the store staff was so excited about the puppy, that I didn't have the chance to get a better impression of the speed.

So first impression... Relatively fast, looks cool (better than I thought), the enclosure is really high end manufacturing (no sharp edges, all smooth), but way too tall (this thing is huge, it is really a "tower" now)...

Just wanted to let you know...

... oh, and I forgot...

People who claim that "you don't hear them" must have problems with their ears! ;)

Of course they are quiter than the former G4s, but you still hear them clearly, especially when the processor has some heavy workload for a while you can hear the fans increasing the noise level noticeably. But still a big step forward compared to the old G4s...

MacsRgr8, any word yet on G5's in the Netherlands? Mine is supposed to ship on or before sept. 1st, but my online status still says "being assembled". No reports on macfreak.org either..

the g4's, at least the MDD duals are such a disgrace when it comes to noise that knowing that the G5 are better is not a great confort !!!! well, to me anyway.
