Okay, so I'm having an issue with my MadCatz wired GameCube controller. Today, I was playing a game (Tales of Symphonia to be exact) and my charachter started walking downwards automatically. I tried to fix it but it only got worse. This is the second MadCatz GameCube controller I've owned that developed this issue. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Have you tried unplugging and plugging it back in? N64, Cube and Wii controllers set the analogue stick neutral zone to position it's in when booting up.
Worth a shot?
And don't buy Madcatz :p

So any ideas on a temporary fix until I can get to the store to get a new one? My mom's being a b**** about taking me to the store. Grrr!

I hate gamecube controllers, too many buttons, not ergonomic :( Just a random bit of useless info.
EDIT: try opening it up and putting it back together, that worked with my old PS1 controller (IDK how but it did)

Gee, with such a great attitude like that I'm surprised she doesn't drop everything she's doing and drive you over there right now...

Try to reset the controller by pressing X, Y, L, R, and start for about 5-10 secs. word of advise, never buy 3rd party.

Have you got a can of compressed air? It might be nothing, and the mechanism is worlds apart, but a blast of air to clean out dust and bits of gunk from my Might Mouse ball (lulz ) has worked in the past.

The scroll ball isn't. Apparently they're notorious for breaking.

Oooh, I was thinking of the ball underneath older mice.

Good idea. I'll give it a try.
I just bought a Chamelion controller at GameStop, the guy reaffirmed that MadCatz sucks and said those were the best 3rd party controllers (they didn't have any Nintendo made ones).

Nintendo made ones may be the most expensive. But they look the best, and what are better too (quality).
Is Nintendo allowing companies to make 3rd party Wiimotes and Nunchucks?

Yeah, my stupid Mad Catz controllers broke and I bought a new Pellican controller with a memory card for only $15. It works great.

Why yes they do. In fact, a 3rd party makes a nunchuck that has rumble....even while Nintendo doesn't make a nunchuck with rumble There's even a wireless nunchuck made by a 3rd party, as well.
I'm drawing a blank on the name right now....
OP, try wiping some rubbing alcohol around the stick mechanism and buttons of the controller. That should help somewhat.
