Someone asked me the question today.

Is offline viewing possible with iPhone Safari?

It was a good question, since his current phone allows him to go out an cache his news sites so he can read it on his way to work. NYC Subways don't get edge underground, so its a need.

Its not something I do, but I didn't think it would do it in my experience.

Safari on iPhone has no such option.

And strictly speaking, it's not a "need".

Hmmmmm....

So, I just loaded macrumors.com on my iPhone, went to settings and turned airplane mode on (no edge right?), went back to safari, and was able to read the entire macrumors home page.

Seems like you can.

Check again. Mine's a no-go. It doesn't cache the pages. It reloads them every time you restart safari.

Go to a website, save it as a pdf.

Then use Filemark Maker (http://www.insanelygreattees.com/news/?p=51) to make yourself a bookmarklet.

fyi, haven't tried it myself, but heard it works great.

Double Hmmmmm!

Just went and did it again. Macrumors works. I then opened two more new pages (after turning airplane mode off - of course) - google news, and craigslist. Turned airplane mode back on (edge off). I lost the google and the craigslist, but Macrumors was still there.

Looks something is getting cached....but not sure what. Could it be page dependent? Could be OHS.
