Realistcally, how long do you think it will be until they upgrade the Touch's flash drive from say 16-32GB? Do they even have anything on the market above 16 GB in Flash?
Thanks in advance!
because te second they do I will order it...i love the features now and f it had a higher capacity i would order it in a heartbeat! Reason i'm asking is I have 65 GB's of music in my library and i would love to put it on the touch instead of the classic. I would sacrifice half my music library just to get it on one, but it's not worth it for a 16GB Touch...
any opinions would be greatly appreciated...

seeing as ipods tend to come out every september, id say ya have a year to wait, thats with no garantees, the nanos didnt get a memory upgrade this year, depends on the state of the nand flash market at the time

Since when have any of the iPods used flash as a memory storage type? If I recall correctly, they're all still running on hard drives. Only the miniature Zune II has a flash drive. But feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. :p

You're not serious are you?
The first gen Nanos used flash memory, the Shuffles did too.

As someone already said, this soley depends on the price of flash memory at the time. Perhaps spring.
btw, it doesn't take 3 posts within 40mins to get a response. ;)

That's the problem with Memory. It can often be faulty ;)

Indeed it can. Seeing as how I haven't fully switched from PC to Mac just yet, it look like it's time for a self-defrag.

I'll happily correct you since you're wrong. :p The iPod nanos have always been flash-based. The iPod shuffles as well. Nothing new here at all...

so probably the most likely scenario would be next spetember for upgrading the size of the touch?

I'd say that is probably correct. Although, you never know for sure.

SJ Usually has a few new and/or interesting things to announce at MacWorld Expo in San Francisco in January. I would not be a bit surprised if a size bump for both iPod Touch and iPhone were among them, this time.

wow... just... wow.
i dont like to be mean, but newbies must hate the effort involved to google.

solid advice. i agree. but, perhaps late spring.

16GB iPhone would make sense, and iPhones will tend to be updated more regularly than the iPod. but, i wouldnt expect anything on the touch.

my advice:
buy now if you really want it. something will always be on the horizon. i LOVE mine and will enjoy it all this year instead of waiting. my only hope is for more battery life in the following generations.

soild advice. i agree. but, perhaps late spring.
I'm holding my thoughts on the touch until Apple makes its purpose a bit more clear. For now, I'm not sure if we should consider it to be an iPod and nothing more, or if we should consider it to be its own new category. Seeing as how Apple claimed that more featues were soon going to be added to the touch via updates, I don't think its entirely prudent to say that it will only be updated once a year. We might see the touch have a six month cycle. Then again, this is all based on what Apple sees in the product's future.
So, I'll say that we might see the next update sometime around March/April (like you said), but I'll give this a 40% chance.
