Hi
I have a Panasonic PV-GS300 & when I import my footage into imovie it's always darker than it appears on the cameras display. I am importing as DV wide screen. Is this a shortcoming of the DV fortmat itself or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance.

you should play around filters to change the lighting:apple:

How does the footage look when played back on a TV set?

You may have your viewfinder's brightness cranked too high on your camera. Do like Lethal says and check it on a TV screen.

On my TV it is darker than on my video camera display, but not as dark as it looks in imovie. Also on the tv it is darker, but looks as sharp & detailed as it looks on the camera display, in imovie it is noisier. Is some loss of quaility inherent in the DV format & is there other widescreen formats I should/could be using with imovie?
The final produst of this footage will be DVD & web based. The footage itself is a band playing at a relatively dark club, so it's not a "pro level" shoot by any means, i'm just hoping for minimal quality loss from the raw footage.
Thanks

Computers monitors display video different than how TVs do so that most likely accounts for the video looking different on your computer. Computer displays are also more high res displays so they will show flaws in the video your TV does not. The difference between the TV and the camera LCD is most likely because they are both not calibrated. Your TV could be too dark or you camera display could be too light.

Thanks for the replies. It is a monitor v.s. TV resolution issue. When the footage is burned to DVD it looks pretty much the same as it does playing directly from the camera.
