If you really want to restore follow these steps:
Hold the sleep and home button on your ipod until the apple logo appears.
When that happens let go of your sleep button but continue to hold the home button.
Now, itunes should recognize the force restore, and you will now download the new firmware, and itunes will restore your ipod.

Does iJailbreak also fix the iTunes sync problem? Or do you have to manually change the names?

It automatically fixes it :)

Eager to get iJailBreak going, but as soon as I start it up I get an error message:

AppleScript Error

Mkdir: /opt: File Exists (1)

Thoughts on what this means, what I should do?

Thanks.

I had this error too. Apparently jailbreak installs a library in /opt/local/lib, but it doesn't check before creating this directory. This step fails the script in a non-obvious way.

You probably have an /opt already created if you've ever used DarwinPorts.

"rm -fr /opt" will wipe that out directory, but make sure there's nothing in there that you want.

Awesome. I just finished my jailbreak and I'm really impressed. You're going to make waves by taking a complicated hack and making it accessible to thousands of people who wouldn't be able to do it on their own.

Really cool stuff, congrats AriX

installation seemed to have gone as designed. Numerous restarts, but no installer icon showing. Checking via iphuc, there is Installer.app and a DemoApp.app in the ipod's Applications directory, so it appears to have loaded. Have restarted numberous times, still no icon. Any ideas?

Just wanted to clarify.

So I ijailbreak the iPod touch, does that void the warranty ?

If yes

Say I have to send it into apple, can I simply restore the iPod Touch and make them think it never got hacked ?

Thanks

I just ran iJailbreak (the PPC version), and it worked. I now have Installer on my iPod, but i can't get any apps. Installer.app doesn't work on my computer, and I don't have WiFi.

Is there any other way to get apps on my iPod?

Hey AriX, Just wondering if we will be able to change the dock icons, like placing the Safari Icon instead of iTunes Mobile music store and such good stuff in the 0.3 release?

If not, can anyone point me to a thread or some resource which shows how to do it on an Intel Mac?

Thanks in advance.

This program is for jailbreaking. It's not there to customize, at least not yet. Don't be expecting so much from a young student.

Also, there have been a countless number of threads on how to do this in OS X.

I understand. I am not expecting all this. Was just wondering if it is in the pipeline somewhere.

I have gone through many threads but could no find a GUI solution on Mac for this. Would you be kind enough to point me to some if you know how to do it?

Thanks.

It's a part of Springboard. There's a huge thread going on about it where people are even exchanging themes. There should be some guides in that thread as well. I just don't have the time to read it right now because it's quite long (and I assume thorough)

Excellent work AriX.

Not to take anything away from your application but I would still recommend following http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Jailbreak_Guide for users who are semi tech savvy and have an hour or so to spare. Stepping through the process and then manually installing the iPhone apps will give a lot of insight and understanding into how things work and are laid out on the touch.

Hey Chris,
Can this be done with a PPC?

Chris F
Oct 16, 2007, 11:08 PM
Yes. The only thing you need to change for a PPC is the version of iPHUC you use. There is a link on the page to the PPC version.

Once you have completed the jailbreak follow this page to install the iPhone apps. Use the link at the bottom of the page in the comments to get the 1.1.1 apps which all work.

Your iJailBreak doesn't seem to be properly installed. Do you have it in /Applications ? There should be a folder /Applications/iJailBreak/ and within that an iJailBreak icon and a 'resources' folder. That 'resources' folder is where you'd find the real tools for jailbreaking, but iJailBreak uses them.

BTW, it is pretty hard to brick your ipod touch... hope that calms you a bit.

That means you haven't completely restored your iPod.

Try this:
When your iPod is on, press and hold the sleep and home buttons until it is off, keep holding them until it turns back on. Once you see the apple logo, release the sleep button and keep holding the home button ... Eventually iPod will ask you to connect itself to iTunes for a full restore.

Somehow, after using Jailbreak, I found - right here in these forums - all of the instructions necessary to install the other apps. I even found what to do about Springboard (Summerboard) being incompatible and having to be updated.

It involves an archaic system called "search"! Almost magical in its nature, SEARCH allows you to enter a few words into a box and, as if they were called by a conjurer, posts relating to the words you typed begin to appear.

This SEARCH has an advantage over beating tired questions into the ground over and over again in that it 1. Rewards you for your tireless ingenuity by making you a better person for having found the answers yourself and 2. gives other people on the forum, people who have used this very process to answer their questions, a break from slackers who can't be bothered to take the time to do it.

ALL YOUR ANSWERS ARE HERE - IN THIS VERY FORUM. Search for them.;)

Jake, neither did I. None of it. Never used the Terminal before. SOMEHOW, though, after SEARCHING a LOT, I found how get to the touch from the Terminal using SSH. It ended up being on a touchdev/wiki page:
http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Jailbreak_Guide

And finally, one thing that you would never have found, cuz the author deleted the content in the first post of the thread for some reason. It was called the Jailbreak Thread Repository and had all of the updated instructions in one place. Don't know why he or she felt compelled to pull it down, except for the fact that it didn't get STICKIED. In any case, here's the part about the iPhone apps:

iPhone Native Apps
BOTGOD's BLOG: http://www.botgod.net/ (Will remove link on BoTGoD or mod's request!)
- Install all ".app" folders into /Applications/ on your iPod.
- Install GMM.framework into /System/Frameworks/ on your iPod.
- Install MobileMailSettings.bundle into /System/PreferenceBundles/ on your iPod.
- Log in to your iPod using an ssh client, then type this command: /bin/chmod -Rf +x /Applications/ (You MUST do this for apps to work!)

Once you've used Ari's iJailbreak 0.3, the only thing you'll need to do is update Summerboard using the 2.11 alpha. That's about it (unless he's already incorporated that... I am not sure. If your dock ends up at the top of the page, you definitely will).

If I were you, I'd start from scratch with the latest version of iJailbreak.

So I dl'd iNdependence but it wont let me install SSH.

Jake, if you Jailbroke it using Ari's iJailbreak, you already have SSH over there.

Find the IP Address of your iPod under WIFI settings.

Then, copy and paste this into your Terminal window:

ssh -l root

And type your IP address right after the space after "root" in the above line. It will ask you for a password. Type "alpine" (no quotes).

You will then be in, and can type the appropriate code to repair the permissions from my other post.

If I were you, I'd start from scratch with the latest version of Jailbreak.

Yep just enter the IP address as displayed. Since you are on wireless your router will be sending you a local IP.

So I fixed that and was finally prompted for a password in terminal. My new problem is that when prompted, I can enter in anything. The cursor gets solid and all i can do is hit enter to bring it down one line, but that won't work right.

Question: if I can actually get this to work, do the iPhone apps show up in the menu, or do you install them from the list of junk inside the installer app?

Hey AriX,

First time poster.
Been following your work the past couple of days and have to say that I am astonished. Great job!!

Just wanted to say thanks for a great job done. I was curious and a bit hesitant however, it took less than 10min and the installation worked flawlessly.

I did notice however, when I installed SummerBoard, all went to the top and I couldnt do anything. I plugged it back in and was going to restore, but when I clicked the ok button to restore the touch made a sound and it allowed me to touch again. It was however, still with the bottom row at the top. So, I uninstalled it. Any ideas

Also curious. What is with changing the ip address somewhere? Is that necessary from me to do and I am not quite sure I understand completely how to do it. Same thing with the password changing.

Please advise.

Thank you in advance.

Viccles, search the forums for iJailbreak, and there is a video that will show you how to do it. Essentially, move the entire folder to Applications, then navigate to the website that is at the beginning of the video (on your iPod), Safari will crash, then plug in the ipod. Open the iJailbreak application, and follow the instructions. I watched the video first just to be sure of what I am doing, but the 3rd version work flawlessly for me. There shouldn't be any problems. The video just made me feel a little better, not that it will do anything to the iPod that you can't undo.

AriX, you're the MAN!
BTW heard the "shoutout" on Buzz Out Loud - NICE!

Just a small suggestion: the "password" issue is a very big thing, and most of us don't know jack about hacking. We click, and iJailbreak does!

Maybe it would be a good idea to have a box come up on the (computer) screen saying your jailbreak is complete - now for your own protection, enter a new password here___ and then your software would automatically go in and change the password.

Thanks again for liberating my iPod...I scared the living daylights out of my cat with one giant WOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOO once I got my "native" email working on Touch hehehehe.

For now I'm in it for the iPhone apps...the ones they SHOULD HAVE GIVEN TO US IN THE FIRST FRICKIN PLACE.

You know, if they just gave us those apps, I think half of the hacking wouldn't be happening!

Jobs has said he's going to allow 3rd party apps on the Touch, so why not give everyone a taste of what's to come by officially granting Touch users the iPhone apps? you would think that'd be a nice way to start.

Thanks a million AriX

No...

I am getting the sh: line 1: ./iphuc: No such file or directory (127) error also. Multiple retry attempts, restarts, resetting iPod Touch, removing and installing with new iJailbreak directory, etc. No luck.

This error confuses me a lot, considering I've removed all lines that say "./iphuc" from the code. Are you sure you're using the most recent version?

So you install iPhone apps with or without the touch connected to the computer?

OK, I want to make this REALLY clear: The installing of the iPhone apps to existing jailbreaks is not very well written. It requires you to use Wi-Fi. However, when you jailbreak now, it asks you if you want to install the iPhone apps along with the jailbreak. If you do that, it installs via the cord connected to the iPod.

Im 17 and have never been successful or tried anything like this and it worked first try ffor me!

Install BSD Subsystem and then MobileFinder via Installer.app (in that order!) and use MobileFinder to delete Stocks.app. Restart, and you should be good :)

You will need to install the update manually....

Get 1.1.1 alpha. Here: http://www.apptapp.com/summerboard/

Follow these instructions to a T. Keep in mind there are THREE Libraries... don't get the right stuff in the wrong library. And don't forget to fix permissions at the end... You'll need to CyberDuck to install the files (on a Mac - I dunno about the other brands) and use the Terminal to do the SSH stuff. Here you go.

********************************
MANUAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
********************************

Copy the files to your iPhone as follows:

SummerBoard.framework -> /Library/Frameworks/SummerBoard.framework
SMBPrefs.app -> /Applications/SMBPrefs.app
Themes -> /var/root/Library/SummerBoard/Themes
com.apple.SpringBoard.plist -> /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist

Make sure that the plists permissions are as such:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 704 Oct 9 20:00 com.apple.SpringBoard.plist

Reboot iPhone, enjoy!

Ok I'm going to ask a stupid question, when navigating to these folders do you manually type in those addresses because when I search I can't seem to find them ie /Library/Frameworks/SummerBoard.framework. Sorry I know nothing about cyberduck

You should have that as part of your download. Use cyberduck to verify all the files that were intended for those destinations. There are only a handful of paths to check.

Arix, now that you have mastered reading and writing files to the Touch via USB, is it possible to write an app that allows you to manipulate files via USB? Just like a file manager, or something simple like iBrickr. This would make it easier for people with wireless issues and those that found command-line SSH sessions too much trouble.
It'd be a really great utility to have.

It doesn't change anything :)

The startup script doesn't seem to be running on the iPod... SSH in, do /bin/csh, then do /temp/install.sh. That should take care of it. If that doesn't work, restore and try again.

Hi again,

I have tried to SSH in but I get an "connection refused on port 22"
("using SSH -l root [Itouch IP]" in terminal). I have "successfully" run iJailbreak several times and try to "SSH in" but get the same error every time.

Any ideas?

I apologize for being unclear in my previous post. I have indeed used my iTouch´s IP address (found in the wifi settings as you describe).

I've been watching this forum closely for several days, sure that a fully automated version would be available which also installed the iphone apps. I'm glad I did because ijailbreak process could not have been simpler. Thank you so much AriX for all your time and inspired tinkering and to the people here who contribute and often risk a little to gain a lot. You all have helped to make my ipod Touch experience go from something that often puts a smile on my face to fastly becoming my new best buddy who conveniently fits in my front pocket. :)

BTW I used my Dual 1.8 G5 PowerPC to jailbreak my 16gb ipod touch. It was painless and a beautiful thing. Thanks again!

BrandonB
Oct 22, 2007, 06:11 AM
Just a few things:

There needs to be a check in the software so it can tell if the Safari trick worked, the Safari thing failed many times on me but the jailbreaking process continued anyway even after giving an error (it should halt on an error and stay that way, the last thing you want to do is to brick your ipod).

Also, to those having issues with summerboard, DO NOT install the one that was included in installer.app. You must download the latest summerboard version for it to work properly on your 1.1.1 iPod.

Because of the above flaw (no check to make sure the safari thing worked) I won't be using or recommending iJailBreak. touchFree does have this check so it prevents you from bricking your iPod.

I understand you couldn't foresee every problem, however, with a little more planning and time you could have had these features implemented. Just my 2 cents.

How about this. With Transmit open applications on the Touch you select Mobilecal. Go to the the Mac menu and select Get Info. Below the box that shows 755 are two buttons - Hit the one on the left. That will set the permissions for everything in the app to 755.

I'm not quite sure if that would work, I recommend going to Installer.app, installing Community Sources, then installing "Touch Calendar Fix". That'll let you edit your calendar.

Arix,

I know you said you weren't going to release a 0.4 version of ijailbreak, but please do. I'm having trouble with the latest jailbreak methods for 1.1.2, and I thought your method for 1.1.1 was easy, and worked great.

My pod was all messed up after trying the version here: http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/site/112jb.html

Now I have a 1.1.2 ipod, but it's not jailbroken, though it has the oktoprep or whatever installed. I might have to start over again, and revert to 1.1.1 and then jailbreak it. I knew I shouldn't have tried to upgrade...Oh well, I know I can get mine back to a jailbroken 1.1.1 state if necessary.

go to wikipedia and search for jailbreak

I used this guide: http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Jailbreak_1.1.2 and tried to use the software from conceited software. It's simple steps and super easy to do.

My Touch is preloaded 1.1.2 and I was able to downgrade to 1.1.1 and do the jailbreak but...was unable to upgrade back to 1.1.2. (I ended up keeping it on 1.1.1) I was reading that it had to do with an updated bootloader v. 4.6 (whatever that is) which apparently makes it unable to upgrade to 1.1.2 (with hacks)...so far.

The hacked touch is soooo much better!

i have an ipod touch that i have successfully applied jailbreak 1.1.1

right.......

download the 1.1.1 official firmware (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/SBML/osx/bundles/061-3932.20070927.p23dD/iPod1,1_1.1.1_3A110a_Restore.ipsw), save it to a place you will remember.

if your touch isn't already in recovery mode as already instructed plug touch into pc/mac load itunes up and then hold down the lock/wake button and home key keep them held down eventually your touch will shut off, keep the buttons held down and when you see the apple logo let go of the lock/wake key ONLY leaving the home key pressed down and eventually you should get the itunes logo with pic of the usb wire.

iTunes should now say its detected an ipod in recovery mode click ok, now depending what system your using for windows hold the shift key down or for mac options key then press restore and point iTunes to the ipsw file and click open, iTunes should start restoring your touch to 1.1.1. When its done point the touch's safari to jailbreame.com, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on install AppSnapp and soon after safari will "crash" if you wait yout touch will start to auto jailbreak, if memory serves me once the install has complete reboot your touch and your jailbroken.

to upgrade to 1.1.2 first step, go to installer then scroll down to 1.1.1 tweaks and install oktoprep. Once installed plug ipod in to pc/mac and update to 1.1.2. When updated grab the 1.1.2 jailbreak (http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip) program and extract to a folder. If you are running windows then run windows.bat if mac then the osx file, tick install ssh and click the jailbreak button. When this has finised doing its thing power off your touch then turn it back on, your touch will reboot when loaded up (this is normal) when its rebooted you will then have a jailbroken 1.1.2

Hi!

I am new to this thread. I am from Thailand and have just ijailbreak my Touch and installed the iphone applications.

Everything went fine and I am now using it without any problems (I can send mail, use map and notes).

I want to know how do I sync my mail (from my macbook mail.app) and my notes to and from my macbook?

I have gone through all the pages in this thread but nobody seems to be having this problem.

Please please help me as I have spent 3 sleepless nights trying to find any information on this.

Thanks a lot!

Will the ijailbreak work for the nike+ running kit? I am thinking about getting an ipod touch but noticed that it is not compatible with the ipod touch. I'd rather get the touch but wanted to see if i would be able to install nike+. would ijailbreak make this possible?

thanks

No.

I dont think it is possible to sync notes, not sure about the Mail but if you get IMAP mail (say from google, gmail..) then it syncs your Mail from the actual server.
