View Full Version : iJailBreak Released!
AriX
Oct 14, 2007, 01:43 PM
Hey everyone, just wanted to tell you that I just released iJailBreak at http://code.google.com/p/ijailbreak/...
It's only for Intel and Tiger at the moment, but I'm working on making a PPC version (the binary is universal, but it still won't work on PPC).
Please note that this software is in BETA and if something goes wrong, don't blame me.
Happy JailBreaking! http://ijailbreak.com/
P.S. Yes, I am really 13 ;)
MiniMan.

Wow ! I will likely receive my iPod this week and I want to Jailbreak it but I'm not really good at commands in the Terminal, etc... I was looking forward something like this ! Since Friday I was eagerly awaiting your iJailBreak and it came out ! :) I downloaded iJailbreak (and all the other stuff from the manual jailbreaking, just in case) and you can be sure I'm gonna jailbreak my iTouch with your app !
You're 13 and you're able to make all this. I'm 15, and I'm not that good. Great job, AriX ! ;)

Hmm... Open Terminal, and do sudo mkdir /opt/local, then sudo mkdir /opt/local/lib, then sudo cp /Applications/iJailBreak/resources/readline/libreadline.5.2.dylib /opt/local/lib/
That may give some errors, but it'll probably work... Once you've done that run the jailbreak again.

Connect your iPod and hold down the SLEEP/WAKE and HOME buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Once it does, release the SLEEP/WAKE button but continue to hold the HOME button in. After a short while, iTunes will notify you that the iPod has entered recovery mode and can now be restored. Accept it, and click Restore.

Got through the Jailbreak part. It said turn off and then turn back on the ipod. Did that. Pushed ok.
Gave me an error that said "iPhuc not found" I have the entire folder in the Applications folder and iPhuc is present in there. It has been sitting on "installing ssh" for a few minutes now.
Extracting your zip gives an error everytime though too.

There's a folder with an icon for the iPod touch. When you open that, you get another folder and an app (icon is also iPod touch). You have to put the entire folder in the Applications folder, not just the app.

For anyone who wants to use SummerBoard: http://www.apptapp.com/summerboard/
Follow the instructions in manual install. Also, I manually jailbreaked my friend's iTouch this morning and installed SummerBoard, and it works perfectly. I still think I should have waited for iJailBreak though... (good job AriX :P )
And @ArmanSLR, I think you need to drag the whole iJailBreak folder into the applications folder, not just the app and resources.

Hey just did this took like 15 minutes and it all worked great! I had to do the /opt/local thing to get it to work tho.
Edit: I just did a restore on it and it's back to how it was before the jailbreak! So it seems safe to me!

hold down the SLEEP/WAKE button along with the HOME button until the apple logo shows up then release the SLEEP/WAKE button while still holding the HOME button. iTunes will then say you need to restore.

Someone has started and finished in this thread already. I quit it because it was taking way to long. And now my ipod is stuck on the apple logo. It will turn off and then back on to the apple logo.
What should I do?
I'm having the same problem. After turning it off and rebooting it it's never 'fully on' as iJailbreak says it should be before I click ok. It loads to the apple for like 5-10 minutes, then reboots again to the apple, then freezes on the apple WITH the little circular 'loading' icon overlaid over it. It's rebooted a few times now, and I've left it for almost 20 minutes, and nothing has happened. it will not 'fully' boot up.
The first time I quit it and restored it in itunes, but the same thing is happening again. in fact, this is the fourth time I've got to this point, and it will not boot past the apple logo.
Any ideas????

Then copy the unzipped folder to your applications folder and run iJailBreak. The application will guide you through the rest.

You are supposed to connect the iPod after you navigate to jailbreak.toc2rta.com on the iphone and safari crashes.
So... When you open iJailBreak and click Jailbreak, the main window will change to "Jailbreaking... This will take a while". Then you should get a popup that says:
"Press OK to start the JailBreak process" (iPod not connected...)
Followed by one that says:
"First, on your iPod, navigate to http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com/. Once Safari crashes, connect your iPod and press OK." (This is where you connect your iPod to your mac)

Success. Now, how do I get games in the NES emulator, and more important how do I get "mail"?
To copy roms over for NES, use the installer application to install "Community Sources"
This will give you a lot more apps to choose from.. Then install "OpenSSH"
Then, on your mac, use an FTP client (like transmit) to connect to your iPhone (your mac and iphone need to be on the same wireless network...) via SFTP.
The user name is root and the password is dottie.
Once you SFTP in, just drag the roms to /private/var/root/Media/ROMs/NES/
(You'll need to make the roms and nes directories).
That's it!
As for mail, read up here:
http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Enable_iPod_Touch/iPhone_Applications
...for mail, you need to install GMM.framework into /System/Library/Frameworks and MobileMailSettings.bundle in the /System/Library/PreferenceBundles/ (and MobileMail.app in /Applications of course... Make sure you get the 1.1.1 versions!)

Well, it's failing on the command:
hdiutil attach /Applications/iJailBreak/resources/iphuc/iphonefs/rdisk0s1.dmg -mount required
(That shouldn't mean much to you, but it is trying to mount the DMG it pulled off of your ipod's ramdisk..)
In any case, do me a favor and navigate to the /Applications/iJailBreak/resources/iphuc/iphonefs/ folder on your computer and tell me if there is anything in it (Should be rdisk0s1 OR rdisk0s1.dmg... Make sure you get info on the file if its there so you can report the filesize and extension).

That's how much space Installer.app has to install any additional apps you download through it. There is a method to increase/eliminate this cap.
It's all in here; all new-comers to the jailbreak or those who have questions should read this thread first thing after a successful jailbreak:

Yes, that tells me that iphuc isn't actually getting an image off of your iphone... hrm :/
The problem with all in one solutions like this is its difficult to see exactly where a problem lies...
In any case, I'd try deleting that file rebooting your ipod and starting again from the beginning...
You can also try manually running iphuc from the terminal ;) (This applescript solution is really just automating this method for jailbreaking:http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Jailbreak_Guide )

For the sake of you actually getting anything done I'd recommend restoring and doing the manual process... If you're not scared of the terminal it's really pretty simple and you get a much better indication of what's going wrong and when.
That being said, this automated process really *should* work... Arix's AppleScript code is really not all that complicated:

i will try the PPC ijailbreak again after a restore and if that does not work i guess i will do it manually
thankyou for your help up till now
*update* after hours of searching i have found that the lib file needs to be for PPC and that is why it dosnt work. well hope this keeps someone else from making the same mistake i did.

Never mind on my iPhuc error, I got it working.
I found that I had to download the iJailbreak through Safari. Firefox did something to screw up the zip file (indicated by not having the Touch icon as the .zip icon).
this might be the same thing for PPC version. I will try in safari now.

What in the hell are you doing messing with that?!
Anyways, here ya go...
http://www.appleguru.org/MobileSafariSettings.bundle.zip
Unzip and drop in /System/Library/PreferenceBundles/ on the iPod Touch
...Should be all set to go after that (that's from my 1.1.1 iPhone, but it should be the same).
In any case, I'm off to sleep guys... 4am here ;)

Hi, hoping someone can help me...
I downloaded ijailbreak 0.2.1 and when i run it i get an applescript error:
mv: rename /Applications/ijailbreak/resources/iphuc/iphonefs/rdisk0s1 to /Applications/ijailbreak/resources/iphuc/iphonefs/rdisk0s1.dmg: No such file or directory (1)
My understanding is that there should be a file in the iphonefs folder called rdisk0s1 which i then need to add the extension .dmg, however the iphonefs folder is completely empty.
Where can i find this file?? Thanks

Hi, can some one post up the iJailbreak download on anything else besides Google?
Because everytime I keep trying to download it, stupid Google tells me:
"I'm sorry...
... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.
We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google."

I would close it. I did mine with it open, and while there were no problems per se, I did have to completely re-sync my iPod afterwards as iTunes seemed to think it was a new iPod.
I think about halfway through the process it makes some fundamental changes, and if iTunes is open it catches it on a reboot, and thinks it's a new iPod, when the process finished it's al back to normal, but iTunes still wants to start again.

dos it matter if the touch is connected to iTunes when performing the jailbreak?
EDIT: Doh! Answer is right above this post!
How long should the initial "jailbreaking...." take? Mine is running, nothing seems to happen on the touch. And it has been like this for maybe close to 5 minutes already.
EDIT 2: Phew, proceeding finally....

AriX,
It is amazing to me that you were able to do this in just 9 hours and WITHOUT an iPod Touch to help you. That's phenomenal! I am willing to purchase an iPod Touch for you and have it delivered to your home. If you are interested, send me an e-mail. I just think that such genius should be rewarded. A very fine job, young man. You are the future. I congratulate you and wish you great success in your future endeavors.

I guess I have a few questions:
One, I panicked a bit and restored my iPod just to make sure i could, and no problem.
So I'm starting again, and as I am about to start the jailbreak, I get an AppleScript error that reads:
"mkdir: /opt: File exists (1)"
I then click ok, and it says installing iPhuc and Readline and it stays that way for a good long time. Is it still working if that screen is showing?
Alternatively, I want to start fresh like I did the very first time, if the file already exists, how can I go about deleting it so I can install properly??

well after some tinkering about and hours of hopelessness the one you posted for PowerPC seemed to work up to the SSH point. i do not know how or why but eventually after 3 restores and multiple headaches it has gotten to a point where it copies the rdisk0s1 with no problem makes it a dmg then has you restart the ipod for the next step.
also i may be delirious but i believe at this point if i am not mistaken the ipod touch is jailbroken.
so this is what it is stuck at now .
any thought would be again greatly appreciated BTW i am still using my PowerPC mac mini

Hi,
Ok, I tried to the PPC iJailbreak, unfortunately I got stuck at the same part that babi did with the error
sh: line 1: ./iphuc: No such file or directory (127)
Where there any suggestions to resolving this. I downloaded it on Safari, but I downloaded the PPC version from an Intel Mac, then put it on a pend drive and took it home to my PPC G5 at home.
Currently I am restoring it, odly enough it didnt completely break, just showed my Ipod as having 300MB space and I could just restore it through Itunes normally. Will see if this works, if not I will try and do the force restore by holding down buttons etc...
Has anyone had any success with the PPC version yet?
Thanks to all the people involved in this, AriX and appleguru1 especially.
Cheers

If it has indeed done all of that then it is *almost* jailbroken... all it needs to do next is copy over the modified fstab to the image it pulled off the iPod, then put that image back on the iPod before it can start installing things.
If you get it to the point where iTunes is showing the fs as 300MB then it is *completely* jailbroken, and all that is left to do is install ssh/sftp, installer.app, trip1pogostick, and a modified M68AP.plist... then put the filesystem back to normal and its done.
Looks like this one was my fault though, I replaced the iphuc in the iphuc folder with the ppc version... but not the one in the ssh folder 8)
Give this version a shot: http://www.appleguru.org/iJailBreak.0.2.1.ppc.r2.zip

Does ANYONE know how to fix this problem? At this point I've given up on the idea since it seems hopeless on my imac. I have a PC at work I could try it on, but from reading the PC thread on gizmodo that looks WAY more buggy than the mac version.
Please help, anyone!!!
P.S. after I turn the ipod off with the red slider and turn it back on itunes opens thinking there is a new, unknown ipod connected. I quit it immediately, but is this the problem? I can quit the program in activity monitor, but won't it just boot back up when the ipod is connected? it wasn't open before either.

Does the PowerPC version cause you to loose music/video on your iPod? I did it manually a few days ago and lost everything. I assume no from the other posts. In essence, when you sync to iTunes, does it show the capacity of your iPod and contents or does it remain at 300mb?
Thanks to everyone working on this. I have no idea what I'm doing and appreciate everything! Great job

It shouldn't... if all goes well, when the jailbreak is done it should restore the filesystem to the way it was before it started...

And on that note, I have LittleSnitch installed so that I can tell if iTunes wants to connect to the interenet, im presuming that as long as i deny its permission I should be ok with using iTunes even after a "update" is released?

I'm trying to jailbreak my touch using iJailBreak. I've restored the ipod to start from scratch. At the step where I'm told to power-off using the slider and restart, the touch is stuck on the apple logo. Occasionally, the timer dial (like when powering off) appears under the logo. It will flash off and restart to the same screen over and over. Any idea what that is all about??

2. The site is called MACrumors for a reason... People here tend to use them.

I keep getting an Applescript error when i begin to jailbreak my ipod touch (before the touch is conected to my computer) does anyone have an idea for why this might happen? Pleas help!
Check the previous pages of this thread, you will find instructions on moving the directory that already exists. Or you can wait for iJailBreak 0.3 where that bug is apparently fixed.

but after you restore it, its still jailbroken? and you still have your warranty?
No. After you restore your iPod, the iPod will be the same as if you pulled it fresh out of the box. That is why you warranty stays in tact because to Apple, absolutely nothing has changed.

so you can jailbreak it, use 3rd party apps, then if theres a problem you can restore it and the warranty will be good?
