View Full Version : Should I replace my Mbox2 USB with a Firebox?

I am considering switching to a Firebox but have some questions. The reason I want to switch is because the Mbox2 has given me nothing but problems, from system lockups, kernel panics, weird functionality with WoW, etc. It works fine for recording, but whenever I want to do other things with my MBP the Mbox never plays nicely.

So questions - will the Firebox work with ProTools LE that came with my Mbox?

Will it make my monitors pop and hiss whenever I turn it off, unplug it, or shutdown my computer? My Mbox does this and it really irritates me.

Does it seem like a good idea to switch to the Firebox? I have Yamaha HS50M monitors with mogami cables, so I want to put them to use, it's just the Mbox2 isn't helping me enjoy them.

Pro Tools requires that Digidesign or M-audio hardware.

I know some people that use MOTU equipment with Pro Tools. They just have their mics/preamps going into their nice MOTU box, then the MOTU spdif outs going into their Digidesign hardware's optical in.

So there are ways, if you are creative.
