Well... who would have thought it...

Netscape 9 is here. 🙂

So cool to see the MOAB (Mother Of ALL Browsers) back in business!

Nice to see a pic of the oldest proper browser on the newest major (well, soon-to-be major) OS...

I don't know anyone who still uses Netscape...

It works for me.

Yes, it's just another face for Gecko.

A familiar name for older users never hurts.

I don't know anyone who still uses Netscape...

Neither do I.

I wonder why they did it.... I mean Safari on Mac and IE on PC or FireFox on both are considered mainstream.
But, I must admit I think it is cool. It's nice and Universal too.

Hmm... I'm not so sure the older users really want to be able to remember this name.
The ones who have experienced the Netscape vs. Microsoft Internet Exploder-built-in-Windows 95 integration story will feel happy that Netscape is alive and licking....
But I'm pretty sure many Mac OS 8 / 9 users will feel a bit hesitant at least to embrace the Netscape which hasn't really done us Mac users a huge favour back in those days...
Remember <ugh> 4.7.x series? Or the not-so-good version 6.0?

But, I, on the other hand, welcome this great from the past!

Between the Mozilla/Netscape initiative and the TBird/Eudora one, it will be interesting to see how this strategy pans out in terms of cohesiveness of Mozilla's offerings and continuing market penetration....

Brings back memories of my first Internet experiences. I never liked IE. Don't know if I'd switch back to it now that I'm on a mac, but at least it somewhat survived AOL

I don't see what the big deal is. The Netscape web browser is now just Firefox with a Netscape theme added.

I personally thought Netscape had the coolest name and logo out there.

It's disappointing that AOL keeps the brand alive as a cheap ISP and copycat web browser.

Sweet. I might give it a shot. Netscape 3 Gold was the first web browser I used when I was 9 years old 🙂 ( I think it was Netscape 3 Gold, not sure. )

😱 Is that really the splash screen they're using? Looks like someone developers wannabe graphic designer nephew made it. Ugly!

And, seriously, a web browser with a splash screen in 2007? 😀

Netscape brings back good memories of my childhood web adventures, but to me it died back in version 4.something.

That would be NCSA Mosaic...
Actually, the mother of all browsers would be WorldWideWeb.app (back in the good ol' days when the web was a NeXT only affair 😀 ).

Mosaic was made possible because Tim Berners-Lee shared his original source with anyone who wanted to use it. But WorldWideWeb.app originated back in 1990, Mosaic came almost two years later.

And it is funny seeing all this fuss about Netscape when OmniWeb made it's debut not long after Netscape. OmniWeb was the premier browser for NEXTSTEP and OPENSTEP, was the first (and only) browser for Rhapsody and was the first browser for Mac OS X. No version of Netscape was even made for NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP/Rhapsody, and Mac OS X has been a virtual after thought for Netscape all these years.
