So I have my trusty 1.2 ibook. Bought it here and has been used and helped me with many projects. I'm having the classic logic board issue. So since I actually take this places, i can't just clamp it to the desk and continue on. I'm looking at picking up a late model aluminum powerbook.
So what am I looking at getting for this as is? I shimmed the board and it seems to be working decent. Shuts off once in awhile, but should get me by and should power up at least for anyone who might buy it, as it is now. I've seen these parted out on ebay and the screens seems to pull a bit over $200. Am I better off parting it out or should I list it on ebay and try and get as much as I can?
I'm willing to take offers on this or any advice on what i should do? The specs on the machine are as follows in case you aren't familiar with this model. I will post pictures later, not the prettiest machine, but as long as I've had, it's never been dropped or abused, just had dirty fingers when I used it, heh.
12" model
1.22 ghz
30gb HD
airport card
combo drive
256mb ram
thanks everyone!

I'm new here, but what exactly is the logic board issue? I have an almost identical model iBook that I want to sell and I don't know if I have this logic board thing you speak of. Sometimes, my monitor just goes out if I push/pull the screen to adjust it, but it's easily fixed if I close the laptop to put it to sleep, then open right back up. It's doesn't turn itself off. There's nothing else wrong with it (to my knowledge....famous last words). Thanks.
EDIT: Actually, maybe mine is not so identical. I have the 14" 1.2 Ghz G4 with super drive. Does that matter with the logic board issue?

I've read about that issue, but mine is a problem where it will be working and just turn black. The screen is on, but nothing shows. So you turn it off by holding the button and pulling the battery, turn er on and it turns on and the fan just blows super fast and nothing changes.
From what I understand, the solder on a couple of the video card chip joints go bad and it's causing this. If I pinch my ibook right next to the trackpad, it fixes it. Or you can open it like I did, put something on top of the video chip and it puts a constant pressure on it and solves the problem. Solves it forever for some, five minutes for others. I've been having good luck with mine, but I'm starting a small business and need something a little more reliable when I'm on the phone with clients and distributors. Do a search on the apple forums and I think you'll find more info on yours. I've read about it a few times, but skip over it since I'm not having anything like that happen to me...
good luck!

Where is the link to the guy who opened up his iBook, put a burning thing on top of the GPU, which heated and melted the solder back into place...
it is a "simple" fix, in that it takes nothing to fix the problem, but a whole lot to get to the problem area!

Actually it takes about 5 minutes to open the iBook and "fix" that problem. I have done it twice now for friends and it is very simple. It is about 6 screws to get the case open to the point you need then you can use a rubber shim with a sticky backing and stick it to the chip. Close it up and viola it works again. Both the one's I did have been running a long time now with no problems (knock on wood). You can get the instructions on line on how to do it.

The candle trick was with the G3, the shim trick is with the G4. Here is the link I used for mine. Very simple to do, but doesn't always work and isn't a perm. fix by any means.

I think I'll use this one for a few more weeks, but keep my eyes out for a 12-15" powerbook with superdrive and go for that and then either part it out or sell it whole.
Still looking for some ideas on how much this is worth or if I should just put it on ebay and see what happens.

That is what happens to mine. The screen just turns black...the computer is still on, but you can't see anything. The funny thing is if you a strong light source, like the sun of a flashlight, behind the monitor on the Apple logo, you can see a faint version of the screen.
But with mine, I just shut the lid, putting my computer to sleep. I wait about a second for the sleep light to come on, then I open it up again and it's fine. Also, since my laptop pretty much lives on my desk the whole time, this doesn't happen often. I can't even remember the last time it's happened...at least 2 months ago if not more.
What are the costs to get this fixed? I did see someone posted a link to a self fix, but I didn't read it through well and I'm not the greatest with soldiering and taking apart electronics. Thanks.

Thanks for the input. Also, my apologies to the OP for commandeering the thread.
