I'm a student at James Madison University and just bought Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard for only $69.00 at my book store. Just thought people would want to know that universities sell it a lot cheaper than the apple discount.

Me too; my school's computer store just updated it's website as well:
Yay for individual Apple-School relationships!

So I'll go to the party in Palo Alto but won't buy my Leopard until November 1 at UCSC here in Santa Cruz. :)
I'm going to be able to get it for $69 at the Stanford University Bookstore Friday after 6pm for $69. So I'm going to get in the queue at the Palo Alto University Avenue Apple Store Friday morning, get my T-Shirt when they re-open at 6pm for the first 500 free T-Shirts. Then I will leave with my T-Shirt and drive over to Stanford Bookstore where I will buy it for $69 and return to the University AV Apple Store for the rest of the evening's party.

Do they check ID? Maybe I can sneak in there and pick one up. Or just have a friend buy me one. Do they track your purchases?

I bought iWork at the computer store and I believe they checked my school ID. They don't (as far as I know) track your purchases. As in, one could theoretically buy as many copies as they want.

KCTCS schools are only offering it for $116, and my college doesn't even have any Mac computers so it's doubtful my bookstore will have it. Come to think of it, I don't even think my bookstore sells computer software period.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha will have it for $69, according to an email that the Mac guy at the IT office sent out, but I am waiting for my next Mac at this point -- can't run Boot Camp on a PowerPC iBook anyhow.

My 1st generation MacBook just broke for the third or fourth time... and my local retail store says that apple will give me a new computer when I send it in. Does anyone know whether or not Apple will give me Leopard free with the new computer free of charge? I have a friend who had a broken iBook and sent it in a while ago and got Tiger for free, so I hope there is a chance that Apple will do this for me too.

will you sell it for $69 ?
and will you sell it to students from other schools?
I am 100% certain you will find success with this technique.

i prolly should have been more clear.... I had done that but the only store that lists is an apple retail store, and I was under the assumption that it would not be 69 at an apple store.. so i was hoping someone at OSU could let me know if there is a campus bookstore or computer store that would have it for 69... thanks for any info!

Use my link to the SCHOOL Store search page. I just did it and turned up 5 school stores in your sip code 47401. If not enough schools show up, put in other zip codes to get more. Boy that search engine sure is different than it used to be. I can remember getting a list of scores of stores with all their detail in past searches. Now it only renders a list based on a very limited radius from your zip. Perhaps the web can help you find more.
I just figured it out. You only enter the first 3 digits of your zip code to get a long list of prospective school stores in your area.

For the UWO computer store (U of Western Ontario), its $99.95 CAD. I guess its better than $116 from the Apple store, with student discount.

Just off the phone with the computer department at Stanford University Bookstore where they are promised 800 copies of Leopard before 6PM Friday when they will begin selling it for $69 until the queue is over. They normally close at 7PM.
So I will be at the Palo Alto Store Friday morning about 9AM to get in the queue super early. Then when they open and hand out the T-Shirts to us early birds, I will then leave with my T-Shirt and jet over to the Stanford Bookstore, which is only a couple of miles away, purchase Leopard for $69 - yes they will sell it to students with current valid ID from other schools - and jet back to the Apple Store for the rest of the party all evening. :)

im away from my school (which doesn't sell software anyway) and I can't find a local college that does have one (except maybe a California State school). I heard that if you are a student you are allowed to buy a single copy and put it on both a desktop and notebook, is that true? do you need to do anything special (i'm assuming not since there is no activation key).
