I haven't decided to buy it yet, but if I do, then I will be at Clarendon store, too.

Yeah, well I need VPN and if it is like the last upgrade, VPN stopped working. So, I don't know if I want to risk it or not.

I have not decided if I'm going (might buy online), but if I do, it'll probably be to Clarendon. Bethesda store is too small, and Clarendon would be more fun than being inside the mall at Pentagon City.

For all those going to Clarendon, everyone should meet at the Cheesecake Factory for brews and/or food

I've already preordered and so am planning to spend Friday afternoon and evening busily updating my Macs! :) I'd initially thought I'd just wait and then run over to the store (Tysons) for the launch but then decided to have the friendly Fed Ex person bring it right to my doorstep instead.

I have not preordered, and do not plan to - wouldn't want a repeat of what happened with my iPod touch preorder!

Anyway, I'll be headed to the Apple Store at Tysons immediately after work. Anyone else gonna be there?

In thinking about this more, even though I'll be getting the shipment from Apple, I think I might just run over to the store anyway to join in the fun and festivities surrounding the launch of the newest version of OS X..... I loved being part of the iPhone launch and so wouldn't want to miss another fun Apple event!

I ordered online. But I think I still will go just to get in on the action.

Anyone know if the Free T's will be for everyone? (while supplies last)

so what's the plan for meeting at Clarendon?

a) park
b) walk over to the line
c) stand in line. Chat about how excited you are about Leopard, and tell people about MacRumors :)
d) Get Leopard (and a T-shirt)
e) Go home and install
f) go back to playing Halo 3

Okay... f is optional ;) I don't think I'll be doing any food. While a good idea at first, I just don't know about logistics... Before-hands, I want to be on line to get a good spot. Afterwards, I want to go home and install. It would have to be really early (like 4 or before), and I'm still at work then :(

Dumb question, does anyone recommend when to arrive at the Apple store (Tysons is where I plan to be)? As much as I don't mind waiting in line, I don't know if I should try to arrive 30 minutes before or earlier (4 PM or 5 PM). Not sure of the type of excitement this is generating relative to length of lines. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I am not sure if I will be at Tyson's or Clarendon...leaning towards Clarendon so I can metro home and not worry about traffic.

I am assuming it will be nowhere near as crazy as iPhone launch...I showed up at 4pm to get my iPhone and I was 18th in line at AT&T store.

Im gonna show up around 515-530 hoping that is plenty of time...I don't think Leopard is going to sell out like the iPhone....hopefully

For the iPhone launch I went to Tysons at around 2:00 PM and was 100th in line when later on (at 3:00 or so) the Apple store guys came along and did a head count. I think by that point there were another couple hundred people behind me!

Because people can preorder Leopard to be shipped right to their home I don't think that there will be such long lines as with the iPhone. Actually, I've pre-ordered, but decided I want to experience the fun and excitement at the store anyway!

Probably going to the store at around 4:00 would suffice.... ?

I'll be the redheaded 5'3 woman wearing a MacRumors t-shirt, with a camera slung around my neck! More than likely I'll be playing with my iPhone....

A staff member told me yesterday that they were thinking of closing the store for "about an hour" beforehand and have people line up outside (inside the mall, just outside the store).

A staff member told me yesterday that they were thinking of closing the store for "about an hour" beforehand and have people line up outside (inside the mall, just outside the store).

What they did with the iPhone launch is to have the line begin near the store and then through the mall down towards Bloomies and then on out the door at the entrance near Bloomies, the Old English Trading Company and the beauty school. They arranged things so that regular mall traffic would not be impeded by all of us crazy Mac folks, and things worked quite smoothly. The store was closed at 4:00 PM and black curtains draped over the windows. At the appointed hour (6:00) down came the black drapes, the store employees stood in the entrance hooting, clapping, cheering, high-fiving, and the first people entered the store.... It was fun!

I imagine a similar scenario today except that some people in line, like me, will already have gotten our hands on Leopard, and I suspect that there won't be as many people there as were there for the iPhone launch. I'm going for the t-shirt and the fun. I also want to pick up yet another external drive....

As I type my MBP is busily transferring some files and folders to one of my external drives and when that's finished then I'll be ready to stick my brand-new Leopard disk (which arrived at 10:15, as promised!)into that machine's slot..... I'm doing the machine with the least amount of stuff on it first and while that's processing I'll be cleaning out my other machines. This is a good project that I really have needed to do for a while anyway.

Oh oh....5 people now in line. Can you feel the excitement! Papa Johns just delivered a bunch of pies with soda just a few minutes ago, though I do believe they are for staff.
The weather may be playing a role in the turnout at this apple store location. I'm sure the one in Pentagon city is much more packed (considering its indoor).

Lucky bastard, they didn't have anything for us at Montgomery Mall.... :( like 200-300 people in line, I was 5th. Took lots of photos, I'll upload them later... the waiting was pretty uneventful, but once the doors opened WOOHOO!!!! 'twas awesome, at least for those of us who haven't been at a launch before... Got in, got out by 6:02 :)

Was my first launch too. It was cool. I already ordered my UTD Leopard. Just shipped today, won't arrive until the 30th. But it was nice to see what i will be waiting for. I can wait.

Anyway, I think ill order a G-Drive for backup while i'm waiting for my Leopard to arrive.

BTW anyone there see me. I had the Tiger Woods umbrella ella ella ella ella! (i had to do it):D

Yes, we braved the rain for Leopard at the Clarendon store. Obviously not quite so impressive of a line, but I think we were all guaranteed T-Shirts :)

The best was this little old lady using her iPhone. It was fantastic. I tried to snap a photo of her using it, but there were too many people and it was too hectic. Good times though.

Cool!! I wish I'd seen you! Dang! As I was driving over to Tysons it suddenly occurred to me that I had forgotten my camera. Darn it! I did have the iPhone, so I took a few shots with it but nothing terriby exciting. I wish I'd had my "real" camera with me.....

The line at the Pentagon City Store was fairly lengthy. I got there around 5:15. When I left around 6:45, there were still people waiting to get in!

Yeah, I only had my iPhone with me as well. I didn't want to bring out my Sony A100 in the rain. The one I posted really was the only good one that came out. The iPhone might have 2 MP, but its very easy to blur that 2 MP...

Clix Pix, I thought I saw you at the store actually... Since I wasn't anywhere near the front of the line (I'd say I was at least #200), I had to wait... And wait... And wait...

By the time I got in and purchased Leopard from one of the guys w/ the portable check-out devices*, I attempted to get to the other side of the store to say hello, but once I got there, I couldn't find you!

And on another note, while in line outside the store, I took pictures with my camera, and a couple security guards approached me and said I was not allowed to take any pictures, and to stop immediately. I do have a few pictures from before they approached me, and none afterwards. Anyone else told to stop taking pictures? Oh, and any idea if the video that one Apple Store employee was taking is available somewhere?

* From the second guy going through the line; not sure why the first guy said I'd have to stay in the line to use my corporate discount, but the second guy was able to give that to me :-)

Gosh, I'm sorry we missed each other! I bought another G-Tech G-Drive and had to wait for the sales associate to find one in the back room for me, and then once he rang me up and I finished typing a quick message to MR on one of their iMacs I decided to get out of the store to make more room for others.... Place was sure jumping!

Oct 28, 2007, 08:15 PM
Sure was! I did see you off in the distance, but it was slow moving... Last time I saw you at that computer was seconds before the employee started talking w/ me and ringing up my purchase. After that, I could not see you... I know red hair stands out, but I felt like I was looking for a needle in a haystack! ;)

Still, I am surprised by how many people turned out! After leaving the store, I stayed in the hallway right outside and made a status change in facebook. In the couple minutes it took me to do that, several people passing by asked me what the line was for - they were amazed that it was for an operating system! I actually had to correct a couple passing by - a guy had thought aloud that Apple was giving away iPhones... :p
