Is it possible for someone to create an application that can perform at least some of the basic graphing calculator functions such as using cosine, sine, tangent in equations? I think this would be an excellent addition.

Agreed. Then I could use my iTouch while in Math class and surf the net :P

hahaha, exactly what I was thinking. Plus I could show it off then, lol.
Anyways, any of you experts have anything to say?

If you need those basic functions, go buy a scientific calculator for under $10. Just because this thing runs OS X seems to make people think that it needs to be able to do everything. It's good enough as it is... it's just an iPod.

because an ipod touch gives you music, web, chat, video, and one day graphing functions and you can tell your teacher to buzz off

I could see that as being an excellent app on the iPhone. Just look at the PEMDAS (http://www.donkeyentertainment.com/software/index.php) widget.

It's quite beautiful for a scientific calc (sans graphing function). You could try appealing to the devs of it and see if there is any possibility. Most likely they'll want to wait until a true dev kit comes out, if one ever does.

There are also rumors of a developer kit coming in January. That might make something like this more feasible.

That's what I was thinking. I didn't think you could have it actually graph it and show it to you in a diagram, but at least perform the functions of the widget.

Well it works on the Touch :)

You can't graph with it. To clarify write the devs and see if they are even interested in adding a graphing function to the widget.

I didn't realize you could run it on the touch. Sweet!

Yeah it is! 10 times better than the default Calc widget (which is buggy).

Not what I meant. What I was asking is basically if you could put that widget on the ipt as an application, so you could perform those functions.

yeah I second that I want an excuse to whip it out in class.
There is one scientific cal made for the itouch where you can save it all in like the URL.
But graphing would be the best

i forget the name, but in installer.app, there is a program that allows widgets on mac osX to run. it is near the bottom of the whole list. if we use that app and then put the PEDMAS widget on the ipod touch, would it work?

Well I was looking on the Apple website and found this:
http://www.apple.com/webapps/calculate/conspiracy.html
Haven't bothered trying it yet, but looks kinda promising. Would prefer it as a real app though :(

I was searching for this same kind of thing (the beginning of the thread), and found this website: http://iphav.com/Calculator/Calculator.html I tried it on my Touch and it works well enough.

It wont graph, but it does turn into a scientific calculator if you turn your calculator sideways in 2.0.
Is that what you meant?

Nope, openstackinc released iCalc3D for the touch and iphone 2.0 software. Available now for 4.99 at the appstore under education

SpaceTime (http://www.spacetime.us/iphone.htm) "coming soon."
From the pictures it looks like it's a powerful grapher.

You made a post for a thread that a guy posted in 10 months ago? I don't think he's still checking this. ;)

I don't know about the guy that posted, but I'm getting a lot out of this. I've got a class set of touches (I'm a teacher) and if some reliable software comes along, it could save us buying $120 calculators. Keep it coming, please! :)

To make the list more complete, one might add :
grafunc (under education) and my own TouchPlot (http://www.mpkju.fr/~touchplot/). (see also this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=545206))
In fact, there is another one that looks promising, although it is typically not what I, for my part, would use on a regular basis on an iPhone or iPod touch, because of the absence of a physical keyboard, and which is called Tion (under productivity I think)
I haven't bought it, so I can't tell how good or bad it is... but you could have a look at it.

I think someone should make a app the resembles the t-84 plus graphing calculator. I think that it would be one of best apps ever!! I would seriously pay 20$ for the app if someone released it with a nice ui :)

DUDE!!!!
Just pitch your iPod on it's side, you've got full access to all the stuff in that widget.
haven't you turned your iPod on it's side before, you've got some great discovering ahead of you if you haven't

As an FYI, SpaceTime for iPhone has been out for a while now.

I would seriously pay 20$ for the app if someone released it with a nice ui :)That would be nice, and it would give things like color screen, a bigger display, and much faster graphing.
I'd like to see the ClassPad 330 on the iPhone. I mean, it's already touchscreen! :D

An update about my own TouchPlot (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=286347960&mt=8) application : it is on sale for a few days : 1.99$ instead of the regular 4.99$ price...
Note that if you want a taste of what TouchPlot is able of, you can download and install its free counterpart TouchPlotLite (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=291681637&mt=8)
The difference between the two versions is that only one function (h) is user-editable in TouchPlotLite and one type of parametric curve (polar plots)
The other functions definitions have to be chosen in a (non-editable) provided library.
Libraries of functions are editable in the full-version...

To make the list more complete, one might add my own fxPad :
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=326085000
It is extremely easy to use, featuring an intuitive UI with a classic calculator keyboard. :)
It can compute the coordinates of intersections, extremums, and zeroes by just double-clicking near the targetted point.
Comments are welcome.
