Windows is very susceptible to bugs and viruses and the operating system itself slows down and becomes laggy over time...so how does this not affect a Mac? Keep in mind that my knowledge of computers is pretty basic

It doesn't. They are kept on completely separate partitions, so one can't physically *creep* into the other.
