There actually is a light that tells you if the iMac is sleeping or switched off.

Out of the right speaker shines a very faint green light when the iMac is on. I do mean VERY faint: you will only see it when you're in a darkend room.

Not very useful though.... :p

Nope... it's really there. Have I mentioned yet it's very faint? It's even got a checkers pattern from the cover of the speaker.

It really is there. At least for the 24" model. It is lighting when the computer is some kind of on. And it really is very faint. The best time of the day to see that is thus the night.. :) Not really as useful as a tiny pulsating LED :(

Yeah, your right. Mine is in my basement with no windows so I shut off the lights and closed the door and the only way I could see it is if I put my hand under the right speaker and there is a light coming from it.

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that light just means that there is power to the motherboard, nearly all motherboards have a light that comes on when they have power to them. Which iMac though?? The intel iMacs have a white light on the front that pulsates when the compy is asleep, or is on solid when the screen is off but the computer is still awake, or is completely off when you are using your computer. In fact, apple's monitors had the same light on it, and you just ran your finger over the spot to turn it on and off, and my brother had one such monitor, so when I got my iMac I ran my finger over it for a couple minutes trying to get it to turn on, but it never came on, and i started freaking out. then i looked at the back and saw the power button:o it was pretty funny if i say so myself:apple:
