Seeing as the Apple Store at Town Square probably won't be open until Nov. 13th, Fashion Show Mall is the only place to line up and create a spectacle for shoppers and tourists alike.

Last time out for Tiger there was a scratch off card promotion. Prizes ranged from discounts to itunes vouchers to ipods to powerbooks. I won a 1gb ipod shuffle, missing out on a powerbook because we went to ethel m's before getting in line. the fellow in front of me won the powerbook.

So, anybody heard of a similar promotion? Anyone from Vegas going?

I'm going but what has me more excited is your mention of the Town Center store. I had no idea we were getting another Apple store! I am soooooooo excited! As much as I love the Apple store at the Fashion Show, I hate going there.

I just read up on Town Square and wow does that look awesome, can't wait!

This gets even better, I just realized the location is South Las Vegas boulevard, I live 10 minutes from there! Best news I have heard all week, thanks!

Town Square looks to be a pretty sweet shopping center, especially with a Yardhouse coming to town too. and its incorporating Frys too.
Rumour has it a store for summerlin is planned too.

I live in NW Arizona, so Fashion Show is my closest Apple Store.

Luckily I'll already be there for a conference that Fri.

See ya in line.

Ill be there. I dont get off work till 5. Im going to see about going in early and getting out at 4-ish instead. Last time there was a rather long line that I wasnt expecting and I got there 30 minutes before.
Town square is going to be a zoo when it opens. Grand opening of a highly anticipated shopping plaza smack in the middle of the holiday shopping season. Traffic in that area sucked butt as it was before. The grand opening of Fry’s was a nightmare. It hurts to even think about it.

Oh and dont look to summerlin for the next Apple store. A little birdie showed me a proposed retail development in Henderson...... ;) shhhhh ;)

I am so excited, I am off on the 26th for Nevada day! Where about in Henderson did that little birdie say this Apple store would be?

I'm off for Nevada day too, yeah for govt jobs. I dont know if I'll be there right at 6PM. I'm thinking about using that $100 credit I have from the iPhone. A friend of mine might come with and buy an iPod Touch if he can find someone to sell his 5.5G iPod to. Or I might just buy a Mac Mini for my external web server.

I knew about the Town Square place but I thought it wouldn't open until next year. Good to hear its opening before the holidays. However, I'd rather deal with Fashion Show during the holidays than deal with that CF of traffic at Town Square. They don't need an overpass on LVBS, they needed highway on and off ramps from I-15 and 215. Of course, the casino's wouldn't let that happen because they aren't allowed to do that themselves. They estimate something like 60,000 cars per day, thats MORE than most highway interchanges can handle. Its going to be bad.

I think the store in summerlin will be in that mall they're building south of the Red Rock Resort, but that wont open until 2009 or 2010. I severely doubt it would be in the Boca Park plaza. If Apple did open a Henderson location, the only ones that make sense are Galleria or The District, probably The District.

the rumoured summerlin store is supposedly on rampart, near pottery barn, a stone throw's away from boca park. as for a store going into the district, geographically it doesn't make sense what with the town square location being only 8 miles away (ish), though the owners of the district are somewhat mac friendly (their newspaper was 97% pc in 2000, it's about 90% mac now).
if it weren't for town square being so close, the district would be ideal, though parking there is a bitch - even on a weekday.

the town square store will be bigger than the fashion show store, but nowhere as big as the san francisco or new york stores (darn!).

another location that came up apparently was a small santa rosa type store in the forum shoppes.

i see a store opening there about as likely as vegas getting an ikea.

I figure I'll get there around 5. I had fun waiting in line at the Richmond, VA store for Tiger so I figure it's a good way to spend a couple hours. (Although we won't have any Chick-fil-A giving out free nuggets here, sadly!)

As for a Boca store, I really don't think the Pottery Barn strip gets nearly enough foot traffic compared to the places we usually see Apple stores. I see it fitting into the new-urbanized plan of Summerlin Center more, though the developers definitely seem to be dragging their feet on that project.

The 17th and Vine development or whatever they're calling it now on Stephanie might not be bad. Its right off the freeway, which is nice.

If its not in The District, I dont see an Apple store going into any established retail venue in Henderson.

I talked to someone I know who works for Turnberry, and they didnt know when the Apple store was supposed to open... the complex opens sometime next month with something like 50% of the stores open, and we were surprised we havent seen more ads on TV about its opening...

I'm actually from the Washington DC area, but I'll be in Vegas this Thursday and Friday for a conference. I'm going to try to get there around 5:30 and wait in line. I may not buy, but I'd like to check out the festivities.

i just got hired as a Genius there, and will be in Cupertino for training for two weeks (starting Monday), so i'm thinking i might just wait and get it there, as i'll have my discount by then...but maybe i'll see if i can get some of the giveaway stuff, admittedly it would be nice to fly to SF with leopard already on the MB :)

oh, and any more news on the possible Henderson location would be sweet, that's where I live (am hoping to get transfered to Town Sq soon...)

i wouldn't count on a henderson store anytime soon. the most obvious place, the district, isn't getting one, leaving the only option in henderson a mini-store within best buy.

as for giveaways, to my knowledge its a t-shirt. i've not heard of any scratch off card promotion or anything resembling a drawing.
i wonder if they'll have magnetic poetry sheets like they did with 10.3?

i think sine they gave away macs at the tiger premire they might do that this year

SirOmega

I'd be surprised if they had any real giveaways - the thing with tiger and previous launches was that the Mac and iPod were slightly less well known back then. If they announced that they were giving away nanos and touches, the store would be flooded with people there just to win stuff and not care about the mac or leopard.

Which would get them on the local news in just about every city that has an Apple Store. Not to mention, since iPods are really driving Apple's growth in the computer sector, if more people consciously notice that "they make computer too!" it will do nothing but help sales. And if you can see it in action, even better. And if it doesn't cost half a bajillion dollars for the ridiculously lame "ultimate" version than that is better still.

And no, I don't know how many zeros come after the one in a bajillion.

Side note, the likeleness of the store getting flooded goes down if they don't release that they're giving away anything more than a shirt. Which it appears they haven't said anything beyond that. Could very well be Apple's way of having the giveaway without the nightmare of thousands of people at the store at once.

But if we did have thousands of people they might just cancel those silly little fashion shows...

nothing quite compares to sitting down next to the runway with a big, greasy slice of pizza from the italian diner next to it as the models walk up and down. its almost like dangling a steak in front of caged rottweilers...

Possible, the thought of more giveaways beyond what was annouced so far has crossed my mind more than once the past two days. I kinda hope this is the case, and it is fesiable from a secrets standpoint - Apple seems to have a very tight lid on corporate knowledge. When I probed the sales associates on the iPhone launch day about how many they had they were very elusive in giving answers. I was at TRU the day the Wii launched and they were open about how many units they had received from Nintendo.

Apple doesn't need more publicity though - they have enough already. And I doubt that a mob scene at the store will help those folks like you and I who actually want to get leopard and play around with it.

Thats what they did for the iPhone premire anyways those fashion shows are stupid

Huh? I was there from 10:45 to 6:40 and they still ran the shows every hour all the way up to 6pm.

Haha. If I had to be completely honest I think my dislike of those shows stems from the fact that being a stage technician, it irks me that some rather cheesy 10 minute fashion shows in a mall get more tech than most of the theaters I've worked in. It definitely doesn't come from the occasional Fredericks of Hollywood show...

Five? Seven?

Probably more, but I hope its less. I can't get out of the office until 5. But I'll be barreling down Sunset towards LVB at 5:01 you can near guarantee it. That is unless another one of the eMacs downstairs decides it should just blink purple and have almost no contrast. Grr...

I got in line just before 5, about 50 people back. Looks like about 75 people now at 5:15. They need some more queue ropes!

You sure you've got your numbers right? I rolled up around 5:30 and we were back on the far side of the escalators. I stood there for about 15 minutes before they moved us into one of the exit hallways.

One of the security guys told me they didn't even find about the release event until 2:00-2:30 today. That would explain the rather wimpy number of stantions.

Oh well...here goes the install. :P

Initially that's what it looked like, but as the time got closer people started filling in with people already waiting in line. I guess they did some shopping while one person waited. By the actual launch time I would guess I was about 100-125 back.

As I was leaving, the queue was full and people were lined up down a hallway so I couldn't really get a visual on the headcount.

I got there around 6 and saw my friend in line in the exit hallway so I just hung out with him for the next hour. The line managed to move pretty fast - I think they must have learned from the iPhone event on how to move people quicker through the process of buying new stuff. I got my shirt and copy of Leopard for $15 ($129-17% govt discount-$100 iPhone credit = $15 upgrade). Then me and my buddy stood outside the apple store while he installed it on his red MBP.

Oh well, hopefully another apple event here in a few weeks when the Turnberry Town Center store opens...
