new classic "The Settings were not saved for the iPod "ericsiPod" because it could not be found"

I get that error whenever i try and sync it..or change some sync settings? how do i fix it?

and also my itunes crashed whenever i try and download the newer classic firmware?

i have mac 10.4.10
