Good apps to keep the mac running smooth?

I'm just wondering what are some good applications that I need to run on the mac to keep it running smooth and fast. I checked the stickies and didn't see anything like this.

Onyx, Spring Cleaning, Cocktail...

Personally I just Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility (comes with your Mac) once in a while...

I'm running that now on my MacBook per your mention -- what is it doing exactly?

Here is the Apple page on it...its basically a general fix-all, I do it when I have a problem or after updates 🙂
