iTunes concerns

After looking over iTunes, don't you think it would be very easy for Apple to screen what music on your computer is purchased and what is ripped/pirated? I'm not one of the conspiracy theorists, but does anything think its possible to get in trouble for what you have on your computer because you use iTunes?

First, how do they know what could be pirated and what is not? Second, how is taking the music on a CD your purchased and placing it in a different format (AAC or MP3) and putting in on your computer against the law?

Do you think the music companies have the right to say how you use the music you legally purchased?

Lastly, why would Apple care? It is none of their business and the consequences are far higher then any small benefit they would receive.

they'd somehow have to bypass network security. if you've got a firewall running somewhere (e.g. in a router or using the osx built-in one) keeping your ports closed, how would they do it?

i.e. you'd have to explicitly make your library available to the outside world.
