Mac Mini Reformatting Help

Hi,

First post on these forums, so...Hello!

I am selling my Mac Mini to a mate as i don't use it much anymore and have run the Install CDs to re-install Mac OS X. When i switch the machine on now it runs the welcome program, prompting you to enter your information etc.

My question is will this reformat/reinstall have wiped all my files from the hard drive, ie all the photos in iPhoto and music in iTunes?

after the reinstall, go to disc utility and select a 7x overwrite of the free space
