That is, if I, like most people, do not wish to spend what is about half the cost of reneging on my phone contract in order to unlock the phone, will it be prone to bricking AGAIN for future updates, or did the Dev team improve their method?

Supposedly a full restore brings you back to factory condition if you used AnySim 1.1. But it wouldn't hurt to use OneSim to relock to phone, then do a restore.

OneSim is found in "Unlocking Tools" if you added iUnlock.no to your Installer sources.

I think anysim 1.1 didnt touch the baseband, only the older version does..

It does touch the baseband as far as I know (it has to), but it doesn't do it in a way that the process damages it (as was the case with anySIM 1.02). Either way, a restore wipes it all.
