Hey, I was just wondering if, with all of the programs, hacks, mods, etc... if there was any way to get around looking at scaled down images. Is there a program like pictures that you can use for high res images? I know there's mobilepreview but I can only get it to show the image tiny all scaled to fit on the screen...
Thanks

That's Mac only, is there a Windows one? I could never find one when I tried looking, PDF viewer is your best bet. :(

I'm trying some with filemarkmaker right now, does PDF viewer work/let you zoom in?

Alright, well filemarkMaker works just fine, with the exception of the fact that for each image you'll have to go into the bookmarks menu and open the next one, which is inconvenient.
For coders: if I wanted to write my own 'comic reader' that was basically a Pictures port that worked with full images, which language would you suggest using, I am a Java coder and want to know which language is closest, and would be able to do that. Thanks

indeed, for such a basic function, users have to go through that much a hassle is surprising.
anyway, its hacked already, nobody wrote a image viewer app at all?

Preview hardly works at all, and PDF viewer works great for small documents, but anything big just freezes. You can do one page at a time with FilemarkMaker to make it into a bookmark that you can view offline or on.
But I'm looking for something with capabilities for easily switching from image to image. It would be a really easy program to write, but I'm not set up to write apps yet, mainly because I don't know the languages they use for development...
Any other programs I'm unaware of that work for this?

So let me get this straight... if I put a highres image, say 1440x2160 pixels, the iPod Touch will automatically shrink them down? To what size?
I would be very interested in a workaround as well...

Check the thread about hiding porn on your iPod, the OP came up with a pretty cool way to view local files on your iPod.
Basically, you set up Apache on your iPod to serve whatever files you want, then use Safari to view them. So obviously this works with anything Safari can view- images, PDF, text, Word and Excel, etc.
The method is pretty cool, as you could then use some sort of thumbnail creator to create a quick HTML page thumbs for easy navigation.
EDIT- Here's the thread-

Note that you don't have to create HTML pages for each file, that part is only for watching videos. If you just dump a bunch of files in the webserver folder without an index.html page, you'll get a directory listing of all the files that you can click on to view.
