hey all,

i haven't really given it much thought but i just noticed that one of my powerbook g4 12" battery corners sticks out to the point where i could stick my fingernail in the gap, by the corner where the battery charge indicator button is. i've had the powerbook for about 3 years now, and haven't really thought about it (preparing to upgrade him to leopard, he's still chugging along!)

i did a little research on the forums and found people over the past few years who have said that their battery sticks out a little by a millimeter or so, but i haven't seen any visual evidence.

in my further looking, i found this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0o7m79nUKU. at the very end of the video is where the kid gets the gap angle best.

i have the exact same "problem" he does with his powerbook. i'm assuming this is normal, can anyone give some feedback regarding this little thing, after seeing the video?

thanks--JB

Mine used to be perfect until I dropped it on one of the corners. Now mine is EXACTLY like that. Annoys the crap out of me since I used to have a perfect PB. Oh well, my fault I suppose.

If you can't tell, it's not normal and means the battery or case is slightly warped. If you have AppleCare still (I do) then they may be willing to fix it.

i actually think i did drop mine a year or so back, simliar to your situation! the unit doesn't wobble at all on a desk or anything, but i think my powerbook has warped a little over the years. i don't have applecare anymore. :(

the unit still works flawlessly, and my battery hasn't exploded or anything from this little gap.

i wasn't sure if it *was* normal or not, because of posts like this:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/128273/
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/26051/

people there are talking about their battery having a gap, too. so, i wanted to see if this was the same kind of gap (since they can now compare to visual evidence i've posted).

oh, my 12" powerbook is the last revision of the model.

If it is the original battery then check to make sure it is not part of any recalls otherwise I think it is normal mine is not completely even too.
