View Full Version : I just upgraded to Leopard! READ ON!!!

Well, I just upgraded my White iMac to Leopard!
I started the upgrade at 00:36 local time (Germany) and I only had to put my password. Leopard did all the rest. It upgraded my installation. The process finished at 01:06, so it took exactly 30 minutes!
First Impressions

All my applications and settings were retained
Time Machine asked me on the first time I started in leopard, which of my five external Hard Drives should be used for backups. I didn't have to configure anything else
When I started Mail for the first time, it had to upgrade the mail database. After that, Mail is blazing fast!
I told Mail to import my RSS Feeds from Safari but that didn't work!
Reading RSS in Mail is nice to have
Tasks in Mail appear even if completed. That might be a bit distracting for some people
Mail is FAST! Seeing is believing!
Finder: Well, the first time it ran, it hanged! After killing the process, I was amazed by the speed and coverflow!
Quick View: COOL - GREAT FEATURE
Safari is blazing fast!
.mac has the option to synchronize settings and Dock items
Stacks: I am not impressed. I like the downloads stack though. I had to manually change the path in Mail and Safari though!
Spaces: I created 4 Spaces and I find it a very cool feature, especially the live ala expose preview
Applications start instantly, especially iLife and iWork!
iCal is much better. There is an inline editor and an event drop box now
Contacts is more or less the same
iTunes seems much faster than before

I am attaching screenshots! Seeing is believing!

Well, people tend to be sensitive to pirated software around here. Especially something like OS X. So, you're either using a developer copy, which I imagine has no family pack license, in which case you're violating an NDA, or you're using a copy you downloaded. Which is it? It doesn't really matter, now does it?

seeing how it hasnt been released im curious as well

also beta copies dont have family licenses.... if in fact you are a developer. so either way i think you got this through shady means if i do say so myself which is not too cool here

I would like to know a few things:

Does final Safari3 have 'Scale to fit' when you right click an image that takes up the page, like S2 has but S3beta does not?

Is there a keyboard shortcut for 'Merge All Windows' in Safari? If so, what is it?

Is there a keyboard shortcut for 'Read next unread story' in Mail's RSS? If so, what is it?

How does the yellow Safari Find function (if that is what it is) look?

In Safari, merge all Windows doesnt have a shortcut

I dont know if there is a shortcut for next unread story in Mail (RSS)

Scale to fit? Well, I havent tested that much but I will check. Here in Germany its 02:31am and I think I should go to sleep!

i've had one for ages. System preferences - keyboard and mouse - keyboard shortcuts - then add your own.

You guys, relax about how he got the install. The thing comes out in just a few days, we're all gonna buy it, including this guy who got his hands on it 3 days early. He isn't giving the install to anyone, he's just giving us some info about what we're all gonna have in just a couple of days. In this one instance sure... but nothing's stopping him from turning around and selling his legal copy of leopard now that he's got a copy. I am not saying that the OP will do this but nothing's stopping anyone else from doing it.

Besides, everytime someone gets on the internet and brags about downloading leopard early, we get one step closer to "Apple Activation Wizard" for 10.6

He has no right to the software until the license is in his hands. If in fact his copy has not shipped yet, his card has not been charged, and he has no ownership rights. None, therefore he is in fact stealing; morally and legally wrong as in without any righteousness. You do not have to have lived a life free wrong to recognize it when you see it.

If I pay mail-order for a physical object, then take someone else's same object so I can use it while I wait for my own object to arrive in the mail, at which point I'll return the stolen object to its owner, that results in several events that make it theft. I've deprived that person I stole from of the use of that object while I had it, and I've given it normal-use wear and tear.

If I pay mail-order for a copy of software, then make a COPY of the software which I use until my software arrives in the mail, then no one was deprived of the use of software while I was using it early, and there was no normal-use wear and tear that the owner of the original will now suffer.

It's a night and day difference. In the real world of how life works, one is clearly theft, the other clearly is not.

I'm not getting into an ethical debate. I just have a big problem with people judging each other so readily. People are all too willing to judge each other quickly and that seems to me to be the root of so much ill-will in the world. I think judgement should be used sparingly and otherwise people should be humble enough to know that they know so little in the big picture. Yes, what he did was technically illegal, but it's difficult for me to see how the OP has warranted so much venom.

But that is also a difference that can only be determined in a court after you have been nailed for downloading from a site.

When you download from the same site as everyone else who doesn't pay, it is rather hard for somebody to sort you out from the crowd.

Plus: it is really stupid to say you are going to make a download from a site, then prove it with a BIG VISIBLE thread like this.

This might work if we were dealing with two weeks ago and I had ordered a Tiger upgrade...

But Leopard has not been RELEASED yet. No one is supposed to have a copy of Leopard yet, so you aren't even legally "borrowing" it. Also, it brings up the fact that many other people have mentioned that Leopard hasn't shipped so one technically hasn't even paid for it either.

As I said, I wasn't arguing about what the law says, the laws in this country are beyond corrupt these days. I'm talking about what is and what is not theft in the real world. As for him being stupid about announcing his piracy, I'll agree with you there, but as for actually getting in legal trouble for it, he didn't download from a site, he DL'ed from NGs, which is basically impossible to get bust for downloading from, so he's in no danger at all.
