(I've remerged the site feedback thread into this one)
Here's the official response from the site owner. Site policy about the talk of piracy has been very consistent over the years.

Those are old pirates. New pirates are NOT good guys (http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/10/16/after-a-dip-in-attacks-pirates-mount-a-comeback/index.html?hp).

I confirm the leak, I personally found the same seed of Leopard.
Anyway I would expect people buy a license.. and I understand many want to install it now just for curiosity but I expect will buy a Leopard license...:apple:

Screenshot of Retail version which has been leaked into the internet:
http://bayimg.com/gAHGBaAbl
As you can see it's Retail versions, look at "About this Mac" window and dock on the right side.
Anyone notice the dock looks a little off ?
Does the new dock have more adjustable visual settings ?
(like to turn off 3d look)
The dock just doesn't look like the dock I've typically seen in previews/screenshots in the past.

Nice, thank you.
I like the simplicity of it, the 3D dock looks kinda cool, but when I've got lots of stuff going on I think I will like the 2D dock more.
Thanks again for the response.

I don't think you should compare the in-depth AI articles to some incoherent ramblings of a random user but that's just me.
I guess the way it happened just left a bad taste in some people's mouth. I agree that it is of interest to hear about Leopard, I just don't think it was necessary to put a thread about a pirated version of Leopard of a user that has talked about pirating, etc. in the past on the front page, especially since it didn't really provide any info and it was so close to official release.
I just think it was bad judgement nothing else. I agree with the general idea of your argument though.
Well Peter did something stupid ... it is out there, he had a chance to edit the thread or ask for it to be deleted.
It is still there, so likely he is basking in the glory. Let him, some people like to be the source of a leak and get credit.
If he had said look what I downloaded to my office computer, it would be different. Since they now offer up to a million dollar reward for reporting piracy in the workplace (not Apple, another group Apple is a member of.)

Does someone knows when is leopard coming to the shelves in colleges and universities?
Those who ordered 100+ copies will have it for sale on Friday. For those who ordered fewer than 100, it won't SHIP until Friday. :-( That's caused an uproar from smaller schools planning [edit: 6PM] Leopard sales/install parties. So says one campus store I spoke with.

will it be "blazing fast", in comparison to tiger...?
I suspect everything will be blazingly fast in this OS release.
Especially the thrill factor.
Expect your amazement to fade 50% faster than with other OS releases.

Considering Apple is now a multi-billion dollar corporate empire, similar to Microsoft but with more black t-shirts, I don't think a few pirated copies of Leopard will affect them much. However, I do believe that activation is something they should be doing right now. It just makes sense.
One of the nice thing about Macs is that Apple doesn't insult paying customers by making them jump through the same hoops pirates do. Microsoft has the opposite idea. OS X is proprietary and most Mac owners buy it anyway.

Reformatting the hard drive requires you to call Adobe and Microsoft to activate again or no go.
you sure about that? I've installe xp 1 time on my main computer then it broke then I installed it again on my macbook and it went fine.
and I also have cs3 web premium which I installed for mac on my mabook then clean installed tiger after and re-registered cs3 no problem.

Asked Mods to delete his request and follow-ups. I can't understand the "since it's out there, let's all have it" mentality that seems to be behind the request (it's also seems a little crazy to solicit that on a public board). Also the assumption that there's a torrent or piracy and wanting to get in on it if it that's the case.
I checked my credit card statement and it clearly show Apple has already billed me for my license to use Leopard on one machine. It doesn't matter what CD I install it from, it only matters that I install it only once.
The logical extension of your statement leads to every IT person on earth breaking the law when they upgrade multiple machines with one disk. That is allowable as long as they have paid for a license.
The physical disk doesn't matter, we've already seen legitimate disks floating around the Stanford campus, only the license.

Would it be better to just do a erase and install rather than archive and install? Will I still get all the new functions of leopard if I just do archive and install because it seemed like you don't from what I read in an earlier post. I only have papers from school on neo office that are important so I could just back them up and redownload neo office and put them back on if I did erase and install? Any suggestions?

I am so tired of people whining "piracy this" and "piracy that" and how evil someone is for getting a copy of leopard before the release date.
Are you all jealous that someone gets to play with the shiny new toy before you?
Seriously, I'm pretty sure anyone who's pirated the GM or previous release already has a pre-order in. So technically they've paid for what they're using; they just got it a bit early.
I 'borrowed' a seed DVD from a developer friend of mine and played with one of the betas. Am I a horrible pirate because of this? Did I deny Apple any income? HELL NO. I'm going to pay for Leopard just like everyone else and support Apple's great platform.
Just because a few of us might cheat a little to get a look at things early does not make us horrible monsters. We are not depriving Apple of anything. If anything, we're spreading news about the awesomeness of Leopard and building up even more excitement, which I'm sure Apple doesn't mind.
Get over yourselves. Sure there are people who will pirate and not pay, but I doubt that includes anyone here. I bet 99% of folks here running releases "early" already have their pre-orders in.

They say that if you order by midnight on the 24th (that'd be today), you'll get it Friday. They're using priority overnight shipping, so they're going to ship out tomorrow if you get the order in today.
No word (that I know of, anyway) on what time zone "midnight" refers to, though.

You're certainly not a horrible monster, but it poses and ethical dilemma. One can explain it all away and say how they've done nothing wrong and that they're otherwise a model citizen. I'm sure you're a decent person. But have you thought about the hundreds of designers, programmers, advertisers, manufacturers who've made this operating system their life's work for the last few years? Did they work so hard so someone can install a probably illegally obtained copy early and start showing off to all their friends days before it's released? I contend it does hurt people.
I just hope no one here read all the Harry Potter books before they came out, too.

And I disagree with you 100%. Until Microsoft starts selling the hardware, which you are required to have to run their software, the same business model does not apply. ... Exactly. :)
The whole activation/pirating issue is completely different for Apple's OS's because of the different business model the company has.
I do not support piracy in any form. I will be buying a new machine with Leopard and probably a box as well, but ... on a certain level, Apple doesn't really care about people pirating Leopard as it really can't do them much harm.
Leopard only works on Apple hardware and will be shipped free with each device they sell from now on. The only possible way to "pirate" it, is to install it on an older Apple Machine without paying for it. Therefore, pretty much zero people will be using it, that haven't already bought an Apple computer at some time in the past. Importantly, those people have already paid for Tiger when they bought that machine.
This means that the absolute worst that can happen and the most serious down-side for Apple is that a small percentage of users will install it on their "old" machines for free. This topic is really about some existing Apple users getting a possibly free upgrade, and not a booming market of "pirated software" per se.
If you put Leopard on an old machine for free, there are only two outcomes. It either runs fine, or the computer is too old an not supported.
If it runs fine, then Apple has continued to please and therefore kept that customer. The next time that customer buys a computer they will re-buy with Apple. If it doesn't run so well because they installed it on an old G4 or something, then the person has to go out and buy a new Apple computer to enjoy it.
So even if Leopard was available on every torrent site or handed out at Malls for free, all it means is that some users of Tiger will upgrade for free temporarily, thus putting off purchasing a new computer (and thus purchasing Leopard) for a year or so. They will purchase Leopard eventually though unless they decide Macs are not for them after all, which is a decision that has nothing to do with whether or not they paid for it.
If not for the fact that there is some good profit in it, and for the fact that too many people would hack their Windows boxes to use it, Apple could almost hand out OS-X for free.

I suspect many of the "moral" crusaders on this forum are AAPL stockholders who are afraid too many people downloading pirated versions of Leopard will result in reduced returns and thus lengthen the amount of time before they can put the down payment on their yacht. I sympathize.
BTW- Any word of if Safari is snappier in Leopard?
Give me a freaking break dude. If you want to be respectable in the Mac community you buy your Mac software. Period. If you believe in the OS you will buy it and support its future development. You can't make the same arguments pirates make about Windows - "Oh, it sucks anyway, they should be paying me to use it".
If you can't handle that, maybe you should run Linux on your Mac. Builds are available for PPC and Intel and we won't have to listen to your crap ever again, so bonus for everyone. Or if you've got an Intel why don't you just wipe the drive and slap a pirated Windows on it? Then you can even play with your elite warez!

Archive and Install installs OS X from scratch and then imports your accounts, applications, and settings. In fact, it was my understanding that the Upgrade option was removed from Leopard in favor of Archive and Install. I guess I was misinformed.

Here's to the one percent!!!
To be honest with you, at this stage, I've no love for a company that refuses to charge equally around the world for a product. why does America pay so much less then anywhere else? It's not as if they have any translation costs or anything to Ireland is it??? Apple produce great software and superb hardware but I'm not willing to pay more then my fair share for something.

And if you think that personal insults help you with your argument you're a far bigger lost case than I thought. But then again, I don't expect you to understand those things. ;) So just forget what I just said, if you haven't already.

The guy is from Germany and it is very early in the morning there as well as the fact that the moral people waded quite heavily in on that thread and scared him away.
I am not scared!
Check your license agreements. Distribution or sharing of copyrighted software is illegal. Obtaining the media (without sharing - no Torrents!) of a product which license you have paid is not illegal!
The license agreement specifies not to make ILLEGAL copies of Leopard!
I was just trying to inform you people. If you dont want it then fine. Some people are asking if iTunes is in a new version. The version is 7.4.2
RSS in Mail.app works now a reboot did the trick
I had a problem creating Web Clips with my ugraded profil. I had to deselect the CSS file in Safari to make it work!
Rendexing on my iMac took approx. 3 hours! During this time search was not available
Everything else works great. I didnt have of course enough time to test but for now I can say I like it a lot! Speed is the biggest improvement of Leopard
Finally I want to say I do not support piracy in any way and I have checked the license agreement with a lawyer! (my brother is one!)
I am not illegal and I do not have any NDA. Illegal is the one that posted Leopard on the newsgroups. Torrents are a bad idea!

What do you want to know?
I only downloaded Leopard because it wont be coming till Monday or Tuesday and the whole week I am away! I wanted to have it this weekend! Is that bad? I paid for it, I don't copy it, I am not distributing it! I have two computers at home and I could easily buy the single license but I bought the family pack despite the fact that I live alone!
I did the same with iWork. I have spent thousand of Euros the last two years in Apple products. I am a loyal fan and I won't accept any accusations from anyone (this isnt directed to you - I am speaking generally)
If someone wants to know sth specific, I will answer if that is of course possible.
I just finished upgrading my Macboon, installation took a little longer, around 42 Minutes. Everything seems to work ok at the moment. I want to check the speed now.

I think everyone railing on this guy is lame.....very lame. Dude has made it clear that he has purchased Leopard so I, for one, don't really have a problem with him getting his hands on a pre-release copy. The reality is that it is out there whether this dude downloads it or not. If he were making it available via FTP to anyone that wants it, that would be a different story.

I'm impressed that you didn't run away! You're the category of 'pirate' that I actually believe is ok since you're paying for it anyway. The kind of person that may 'aquire' certain tv shows because they don't want to have to wait for it to be translated from American to English but make sure to pay their full Sky subscription and TV license even though they hardly watch it. Its not about pirating to get something for free but pirating to get something without having to wait - same reason people unlock iPhones and bring them to Europe.
Apologies if my posts earlier on in this thread might have seemed rather aggressive towards piracy or the forum, I was just on a high horse day due to having sat around for three days in a row at home waiting for someone to deliver something important and have been getting rather frustrated!

I've just checked my order details on my 5 license pack; it says it's "prepared for shipping". I'm assuming this means it will be dispatched tomorrow for delivery on Friday (fingers crossed). Assuming that Apple haven't paid the courier firms to only deliver after 6pm, I should receive it earlier than the launch time - am I a) going to need to change my nationality to German and b) going to get lynched for having it before the people buying it in person? :)

Yeah, considering what Macs cost in Latin America I should just go to the shop and steal one right? I mean after all, why would I pay more than what I consider my fair share for something?
Dam Straight!!! power to the people... you go smash that shop, and steal me a copy of leopard if they have one would you? I'd love a box :D
Absurd... any product costs different in different countries. Even Big Macs cost different amounts in different countries. Sounds like you're not willing to pay for anything at all.
I agree, products do cost different amounts depending on the country, this is normally due to shipping costs, different taxation systems, bribing the officials and last but not least large companies taking larger profit then deserved. Now either our good Berty is allot more cunning then i thought, the tax really has gone up here or petrol is really through the roof but €40 per copy is quite a bit.
Let me be truthful here for one minute. I love apple computers, there slightly more expensive then others but you get what you pay for. There solid, well built and well designed computers. The apple operating system is that too but the difference is that I don't think Leopard is worth €130 (I probably would pay €90 but forty extra is just too much). I did download leopard earlier to see what it was like and other then rss in mail (thunderbird...) there's nothing there i want. (And before you say it I'm allready considering moving to ubuntu on my macbook... 7,10 is in many ways just as good as osx)

How quick is Spotlight, does it seem to get stuck on a search sometimes like in Tiger.
How is it after 20 hours of use, have you come across and thing bad e.g bugs, freezes.
Do you like it, knowing what you know now would you still upgrade.
Well, I cant answer that at the moment. I finished yesterday around 3am, went to bed and then I went to work. I just finished installation on my Macbook. Leopard is also fast but I think the iMac is a bit faster.
Spotlight I havent used much, but the one time I used it was pretty fast. I cannot compare it though to Tiger.
Something that I didnt like was that after installation a reindexing begins. I forgot to exclude my 5 External HDs (approx. 3 TB of Data) so when I returned home from work, Leopard was still trying to create an index! I excluded my HDs and after 10 mins Leopard indexed the internal HD.
I will try to make more searches and see how it goes

Why run away? I have worked for Microsoft at the past, I know the policies regarding software. Nobody gets prosecuted for downloading a software he has paid for, even if the source isnt legit!
Microsoft has thousand of customers that are exactly like that!
Anyway, I apologise if I insulted people by downloading Leopard. I have specified my reasons and I certainly do not regret it!

Yes you are right. The answer is, why bother? Apple doesnt want to spend money prosecuting amateurs, they want to find the real pirates. Dont forget that Leopard runs on Apple hardware only. That means the user has already paid sth to Apple. Its not like that in the Microsoft world...

It's interesting that in the Apple visual guide they said it would take "an hour or two" and it appears to take much less. I have a hard time believing that time frame and wonder why they over shot so badly.
Certainly ought to cut down on griping from those what end up spending more time installing than stated by Apple.

I'd be interested in hearing a bit more about iCal as I use it each and every day.
The default preview on the right part of the screen is now gone. The user has to double click in order to get a preview of an appointment. Then there is the edit button that allows inline editing. Its a bit tiring to go through all these steps but certainly the options now are much greater.
I also like the default alarms for new appointments. It was about time!
Event Drop Box also works nice
What I found a big disappointment was the Tasks. They havent changed at all. (apart from the OS wide Tasks Database and integration with Mail)

Overall I have to say that upgrading my Macbook went much more smoothly than on my iMac. I dont know why as I keep both machines in sync. On my iMac I had to reconfigure indexing, restart finder one time (on first boot), reboot once to make RSS import in Mail from Safari work. Maybe it was because I upgraded very light in the night :)
Overall I am very happy. This is a worthy update. Quick view is great, the new Finder much better than before, Coverflow is amazing, Spaces helps a lot and Time Machine seems cool (havent tested thoroughly). My favorite app is Mail!
It has Tasks, Notes, RSS, HTML templates and it is faster! It also has a new indicator on the low left corner of the screen displaying the current activity
What really impressed me that on my iMac my FTP Server worked after the upgrade, without changing anything. All in all, this is surely the best version of Mac OS X

I wanted to share my experience on my MacBook (2.0/2Gb/160Gb) and this leaked leopard...
1. Dock is obviously SLOWER in leopard (animation isn't smooth as in tiger, gaps are very notable)
2. Spotlight working great - extremly fast
3. Coverflow - great perfomance
4. Networking - my Vista PC is NOT visible in Finder as it is in Tiger (all settings are made, trying to figure it out)
5. And this is something that makes me worry - my macbook goes into "cpu fan-mode" much much more often then in tiger - it makes me think that battery life would be notably shorter in leopard
6. Some strange behaviour in Finder when changing View Properties - if you use "Back" button the folder you're getting to may show "corrupted view" - that's strange
7. iTunes and Safari - very fast loading
8. New icon for Frontrow :)) - cosy red chair :)
9. Strange behaviour while editing properties of created via Safari widget - in my case it became two times smaller after pressing "i" button and never showed controls again :)
new
10. I can't believe it - nice sliders allowing user to change the amount of effects in Photobooth are now gone (as it was in 559 build ((( )
11. iPhoto launches much faster then in Tiger - no need to be genious to guess the same story for Pages - you may definetly see for which version of Mac Os X it's been developed

When I upgrade to Leopard, it will be on my G5 2Ghz DP desktop, and my MacBookPro Intel 2.3Ghz machines.
If you really don't care that much about the new features... are there any other reasons to upgrade? Does it make everything on your machine faster at all? Or just apps like iLife? Will apps like Photoshop, Motion, FCP, etc. run any faster with faster render times? Or are all the speed increases limited to the new OS features only?

Its definitely faster but It wont affect rendering, processing times etc...The OS itself is optimized for multiple cores. You ll see a speed improvement in the OS components. If you dont care about that or the new feature dont upgrade.

Dude, you got it from usenet, it's not like it's a big secret.
Still this raises an interesting point.
If you legitimately pay for software, does it matter how you obtain it?
You don't actually pay to own software, you pay to license it. So if you are in possession of a legal, valid license, it really doesn't matter how you obtained the actual bytes of data, does it?

My friend, who works for a very large multimedia software company, got his legit copy of Leopard today and just installed it on his Macbook Pro. So *SOME* people are receiving copies already..
That is correct. Although in this case, the SoCal fires unofficially closed our offices. As a mass switch is scheduled for next week, some people chose to get upgraded and kill time out of the office with Leopard. Early upgrades were offered to a few of us, and I was willing to go to the office to have it done.
FWIW, the installation took 31 minutes on a 2GHz Core Duo and went very smoothly, followed by an initial restart of 2-3 minutes and the "Welcome" diddy. Software Update requested an update to the Remote Desktop Client (3.2.1). Spotlight Indexing took approximately 27 minutes.
I've just arrived back home to start playing around...

Of course! :) Lynching should cease now that the subject of all this torment has bravely stepped forward and explained the situation. Personally, I just appreciate the information he provided, no matter how he attained the product. I don't really consider it any of my business or anyone elses for that matter.

Really pathetic that Appple does not release it to there developer and enterprise customers even a little more then two day's before the release. At this rate I will have to go a buy a final copy for enterprise integration on Friday or wait until a week after the commercial release to recieve a copy of server adn client. Apple wake up and realize that even though you could have Enterprise penetration this is exactly why you do not. It is going to leak anyway so why not release it to those that have been testing and probably wouldn't leak it, unlike the way you give the gm to all the users in your company and have them install it themselves. O.K rant done sorry....
You're pretty brave to be installing what amounts to a 1.0 version of a new OS the day it is released across an entire "enterprise". If this upgrade really was critical to you you could have become an Apple Enterprise customer and/or a Apple Developer both of whom have access to new/unreleased builds of OSX (and other pieces of software).

BTW I loved the wife-beater!
thats my point exactly!

If so, is it better/same/worst as with Tiger?
QS worsk, but the plugins (Adress book etc.) won't. So you can only use it as application launcher for now. But it's open source now so it won't be long until it's fully operational in Leopard.

What have we learned that we already didn't know?
We learned that it's pretty much everything we've heard so far, with nothing new. Oh, sorry, it takes at least 30 minutes to load on a Core Duo. Not to discount Leopard, I'm really looking forward to it! Should be sweet.
We also learned some people take offense to illegally obtained copies (or maybe just early copies) and others will defend them to the bitter end. It's really not much different debating the merits of hacking an iPhone. Both actions may result in great outcomes. The iPhone will be open to 3rd party developers and the early Leopard installers might catch some early bugs and get Apple cranking on some patches for the rest of us. Do the ends justify the means? Ah, grasshopper...
I wonder what feature most people are going to purchase Leopard for? For me, it's a tossup between Mail and Time Machine.

Hi everyone.
5. And this is something that makes me worry - my macbook goes into "cpu fan-mode" much much more often then in tiger - it makes me think that battery life would be notably shorter in leopard
Now that concerns me, too. I am currently really, really happy with my recently purchased Macbook being really, really quiet (the average temp is abot 57-61 when browsing using Opera, the fan is set to 2000rpm).
I was wondering if the increasing fan work is the norm in the upgrade's result, or just an isolated case. Could someone else confirm this?

Ok let me put it this way... at the moment I am in tiger and I have:
FireWire drive connected to it (it takes energy and makes inside elements be warmer), I have Safari, several Finder windows, Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, Dashboard, iCal, QuickTime, Adium, iTunes and Photobooth open at the same time and i don't hear my MacBook - fan speed has never been changed from it's defaults - the system is running smooth and the sound of my fan going wild for couple of seconds occures very very rare
If I'm in leopard (which I installed on the FireWire disk for testing purposes) I can hear my fan going faster with noise very often EVEN if I just run standart applications like PhotoBooth. I wish I could test it without firewire drive to compare battery life in both systems but I can't at the moment.
What is more dissapointing for me is that interface in Leopard is not as smooth as in Tiger (and again I refer that to Intel GMA graphics in MacBooks) - dock not smooth (even in 2D view on the side), dashboard opens as if it has nerveous breakdown :), QuickTime goes fullscreen with gaps....
The strange thing is that things like QuickLook or CoverFlow work amazingly fast and smooth so there's no doubt that slow-interface-problems is a bug and I really hope it's gonna be fixed in short time...
And there's one more thing - I've been trying to connect my Leopard to Vista PC over my home WiFi network for many hours now - no results - and in Tiger it is ok automatically - no problems at all
by the way - the similar story was with build 559 which I tested too

I've installed Leopard on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro. I can tell you with 100% certainty that battery life on the MacBook Pro has gone to hell. The main culprit, although there are many others, seems to be the .Mac sync process. If left on "automatic" (which I had done on Tiger) it seems to want to sync every 5 minutes. When it does it takes about 50-80% CPU, and takes about 2-3 minutes to sync. This long and CPU intensive task obviously causes the fans to spin up and the battery to drain quickly.
For just now I've had to change my .Mac sync to only 'once a day', which is certainly not ideal. Even with this process only going once a day, there are a bunch of other background tasks Leopard seems to do frequently that are draining battery life quite a lot. I'd say I'm getting at most 60% of the battery life I was getting in Tiger. :(
I do like Leopard overall, I just wish it wasn't killing my battery.

That is strange and as I may suppose there are some possible reasons for that
1) You are very loyal fan closing eyes for bugs and just happy with new OS
2) We have different MacBook - it may be different CPU (mine is Intel 2.0 C2D) or different ROM-versions (mine is MB21.00A5.B07)

As long as you can sleep at night, that's all that matters. Here's what you did:
1. Ordered Leopard
2. Used the ordering of it as a "right" to download a copy that was not sanctioned by Apple to be posted on the web
3. Installed Leopard
4. Paid for Leopard (remember, you did not PAY until your card was charged, and your card was not charged until the item was shipped)
5. Lied to this board that you had a contact at Apple, implying that you obtained from Apple an authorized copy, when in truth, you did not
This does not mean you did everything legally, from a technical perspective. It's like saying:
1. "I will stop my car at some point" (equivalent to your ordering Leopard)
2. Running the red light (equivalent to your download of an unauthorized copy of Leopard)
3. Subsequently stopping the car (equivalent to paying when your card was charged after download, at the time of shipment)
4. Trying to say that you were authorized to run the red light because you intended to stop later, and then did stop.
You did not have any "rights" when you ordered Leopard, and you did not have any EULA to protect you because you had not paid for the license at the time you downloaded the unauthorized copy -- you merely placed an order and were charged AFTER you had downloaded the copy.
You know that Apple is unlikely to do anything to you. However, your arrogance is amazing. Most on this forum could care less what you do because they are chomping at the bit for how Leopard works and any reliable information is welcome. However, let's call a spade a spade -- your rationalization of what you did does not mean you did anything legal.

When I close the lid, my Macbook doesn't sleep ... It just locks the computer. I can tell because the light in the front doesn't throb and the computer stays warm, and every few minutes it makes a small noise from the DVD drive.
My keyboard doesn't work. Yep, that's right, I can't type unless I turn on my Bluetooth keyboard or plug in a USB one. Maybe I didn't check off an option but this is pretty ridiculous.
Animations are choppier, but then again I'm using a MB and not a MBP or Mac Pro for that matter.
I was able to install it off a USB drive (not Firewire).
Upgrading went smoothly, though now with these problems I'm having I might have to Archive & Install a fresh copy.
Please advise if you know anything about the keyboard. I wasn't able to find anything on Google.

My Macbook sleeps when the I close the lid. The performance is also better than with Tiger. Keyboard works also. I installed it over Tiger.

Nah, when I speed (which is often), I admit it!! (Isn't there too much traffic there to speed?!!?)
Looking forward to Leopard . . .
You made up the shoplifting analogy yourself and are now complaining people don't agree with it. I think it's a poor one anyway. People frequently go into shops and walk out with items on "Buy now, pay later" deals. This would be more accurate for what this guy has done.
Anyway, who cares? At the end of the day he's paid or paying. Apple get the same amount of money, he gets a copy of Leopard on his machine... who cares? It's petty, let it go.

Here are a few things I've noticed with Leopard on my PowerBook G4:
* Mail, Safari and Finder all crashed within the first 10 minutes of use, but not anymore after that.
* My laptop originally came w/ two 256MB sticks, one of which I replaced with a 1GB stick from NewEgg. Oddly, only the non-Apple RAM is being recognized. Perhaps Leopard doesn't recognizes 256MB sticks anymore? Seems odd, since it worked under Tiger.
* Microsoft Word takes FOREVER to open! But everything else seems faster and more responsive.
* The 3D dock is retarded. Changed it to the 2D one using that little tip on Daring Fireball.

Some remarks after using Leopard on an alu iMac.
- Hotmail does not work anymore in Mail using the httpmail-hack (but that was something to be expected of course - third party issues hmm).
- Front Row sux now IMHO, in the old version the music kept playing, even if you left Front Row, now it suddenly stops just by going to a different menu.
- Spotlight is finally as fast as it has should have been.
- You can not browse further when selecting a map in a stack folder. It just opens the map in the finder. Although it might have been too complicated to implement it anyway.
- The transparency in the menu can indeed be confusing sometimes.
- I like some little things that Apple has changed, i.e. when pressing command-shift-4 to make a screenshot you see which pixels you are selecting.
- and of course Safari is snappier ;)

hey all.
I'm having problems in front row. When i'm trying to play a video with a .srt file, everything is fine, but I get a black screen with sound playing as soon as the first subtitle should be displayed. It's really weird since everything works fine in quicktime player... Maybe a problem of perian not being leopard ready ?
Anyone having the same problem ?
I'm from France so please excuse my english :)
Thanks :)

Look! The emperor's not wearing any clothes.
We appreciate the info, but you still did something you were not authorized to do, no matter how much you try to rationalize it. If you shoplift, then offer to pay for it later, you still have shoplifted. Get it?
His CC was charged for Leopard, Apple lost no property, and he has his goods. How is that shop lifting?
Next you bring in the laughable concept of authorization. Please explain this to me? Everyone must get authorization directly from Apple to run their software? Please tell me how I go about this, my DVD comes tomorrow and I want to waste as little time as possible.

For the people that have Leopard installed already are any of you having problems with Quicksilver sitting in the dock even though in the pref its select not to. I made sure I had the show icon in dock unchecked although it still sits there and I when I try to update QS it just stalls and doesn't do anything.

Hoping to receive my copy of Leopard today (Friday). I want to reinstall from scratch and anew, but obviously I want to keep my stuff.
Anyone know the best way to backup and restore:
- iTunes library
- iPhoto library
- etc
Presumably also to reinstall iLife 08 I could use my MacBook disk and use the 'Install bundled software' option AFTER Leopard? That would work, right?
Thanks in advance.

To follow up, I've been having problems with my Macbook and Leopard all day. For starters, I still haven't gotten the keyboard problem resolved. I searched high and low and this appears to be an isolated case. I tried booting in safe mode and my keyboard didn't work there either. It detects the Keyboard / Trackpad in System Profiler, though (weird).
Also, to remedy the sleep problem I tried resetting the PRAM and turning off "safe sleep" in Terminal. The latter caused my computer to endlessly cycle wake-sleep patterns when the lid was closed. When I put the setting back and rebooted, Leopard didn't detect my battery. I turned my MB upside down too see the battery lights all lit up (without me pressing them). I took the magsafe connector out and the system shut off.
So far Leopard has claimed two victims in my Macbook, the keyboard and the battery :(

I'd hate for you to waste your time tomorrow! Perhaps I was not clear -- by ordering Leopard, he argues that he was allowed (authorized/entitled) by Apple to download an unauthorized copy of the software that was, no doubt, illegally posted on the web. I really don't care if folks copy software they should not; I really don't care if someone buys a single license copy and puts it on 10 machines. I do care when someone comes to a forum, lies about obtaining a copy from an insider at Apple, then when completely owned, makes a bogus claim that using an illegally obtained, unauthorized copy of Leopard is justified by subsequently paying for a license. You really can't put the toothpaste back into the tube. I certainly appreciate his experience with Leopard - it answered quite a few questions.
You may now use your DVD upon receipt (hopefully at 10.31AM after delivery) -- my mailroom (also in DC) is a bit slow in getting our packages to us. I'll be waiting patiently as well.
Enjoy...

What REALLY gets me is the fact that all those crooked developers in Cupertino have been using copies of Leopard WAY before its release, and to add insult to injury, do so without even paying for it. The nerve!

After using RSS feeds in Mail.app for the last two days, I can say that I am disappointed. They dont work so well like in Safari. Updating seems to be a problem and many times they disappear from Mail. Restarting Mail seems to temporarily fix the problem but that makes me use Safari as the default RSS reader

I'm running 10.5 on a PM G5 Quad 2.5GHz. Everything working fine so far. Seems a lot more efficient, Safari especially.
One feature I just noticed is when you're using the HELP search, it points to certain features in response to your search query. For example, while in Safari, click HELP and search for "Tab", then hold the mouse cursor over one of the Menu Item results.

I had that happen to my MacBook quite often in Tiger. I just now closed my lid for the first time since installing Leopard and it went to sleep perfectly. Of course, this is just one time so far.

Clearly mine works. This is weird...

Yup, I think I'd give that a shot if I were you. I did a clean install, myself (even repartitioned the drive - my aftermarket drive was set up with Apple Partition Map and the installer balked) and haven't had any issues.

I feel really bad for you guys having problems installing Leopard. This is my first OSX update (a recent switcher) and the upgrade went without a hitch. I'm really impressed at how painless it was.
In fact it fixed many things. My computer used to whine at me when I put my Mac to sleep with external HDDs connected over a hub, now it works fine!

I like it in Mail a lot better than in Safari. You can even have specific threads show up in your Inbox if you want. Although I still prefer to keep my RSS in a separate app. Have you tried NetNewsWire Lite? (it's the free version)

1) Having had a look at the guys Photoboth Photos, I think he has been punished enough with the looks he has. Reminds me of a dirty old fish 'n chip shop owner with hairy shoulders/back.
2) People do anything to justify their actions when breaking the law - for me, I'm going to wait, not only for moral reaosns but because I want to have the 'excitement' of actually receiving the genuine thing, installing it. They say that if you wait for something you desire, it'll feel all the better once received.
3) Regarding 'teh snappy' - apparently there have been big changes threading wise - so hopefully Arstechnica will do a good indepth analyse of it at a later date.
I find this amusing coming from someone with your questionable looks:D. I don't really need to post one of your pictures for everyone in here to see do I?

Check your preferences in iChat AV for Audio/Video and make sure the audio input is set to the built-in mic.

Why the hell are you resurrecting a thread from over 2 years ago? good lord, get a life and use the damn support section instead of this morbid curiosity with dead threads.
