I was talking with a well trusted AT&T representative today and he said that there is iPhone Nano type of size iPhone Definetely coming out bvefore the holidays... he said that the price was going to be between 299.99 and 399.99 and it is 3G, smaller (obviously), and does not have as many feutures as the current iPhone.:apple::apple:

You obviously misunderstood him if he said this supposed nano would be $299 - $399.
- Be right back, going to buy a smaller iPhone that does less for the same price as a normal iPhone.

This can't be true, AT&T doesn't support 3G in all areas AT&T would have to do some major upgrades for 3G, i'm sure we won't see a newer iPhone out until mid to late 2008. Nice try :)

Thats when I'll be getting mine, when it has 3G and is able to replace my iPod (by having 32GB or more)...until then, its a great first gen, but not good enough for me :)

Really? The AT&T rep's I've talked to are woefully uninformed about the iPhone they've been selling for 6 months now. It's inconceivable to me that any of them would be privy to internal :apple: info.

I also talked to an AT&T rep today, and he said that there are going to be iPhone Classic's coming at the old price points and the same 4GB and 8GB capacities.

It could make sense for Apple to push out a smaller iPhone with fewer features if they wanted to steal the buzz and the market share of the upcoming Google phone.
Why would Apple want to leave that price/feature point wide open for Google to step in?
My 8gb iPhone is so damned buggy that I'd be willing to give a simpler device a try, either from Apple or from Google.
I'm tired of my iPhone's browser crashing, I'm tired of all of a sudden seeing my iPhone battery nearly drained because the iPod decided to spontaneously start up while I'm web surfing, and I'm tired of my iPhone spontaneously heating up significantly while it's in sleep mode in my pocket or my backpack.
My iPhone is a buggy little thing, despite the software updates and the re-setting, and I'd give up a feature or two to get a product that worked right.

Bull. iPod Touch is in that price range so they wouldnt have 3 identical products for the same (ish) price. Besides, why would apple tell att anything about an upcoming product?

It would have been better if the OP had said he was in an elevator with an AT&T rep...
Yeah...that's the ticket...
I was in an elevator when I overheard Steve Jobs talking about the new nano-sized iPhone!!!

Regardless of anything else, this is not a valid argument.
It's not an all or nothing situation.
With a 3G phone, if you go outside of coverage, it reverts to EDGE. Just as if you got outside EDGE coverage, it should revert down to plain GPRS.

Sorry, nice try..... But 3G is backwards compatible with EDGE.... There would be no need for massive upgrades.

Imagine if this were true? Imagine if the VERY FIRST INDICIATION of a new iPhone due out, in what? a week? two weeks? and not just a new phone, a dramatically different, 180 turn,...........came from an AT&T employee. Hahahahahaha.
Oh man, I'm sorry, but thats.........wow.

No it's not. They are completely different technologies and protocols.
BUT most 3G phones also contain a seperate 2G (or 2.75G) modem as well as the 3G modem. And the protocols support handover.
So if you go out of 3G coverage you drop back to 2G. You might get EDGE (2.75G) if your phone supports it.

Not falling for this one. First off the price is wrong. An iPhone Nano would not cost just as much as a normal iPhone. Second, an AT&T employee is the source... LOL! AT&T employees didn't even know the release date of iPhone before it was announced, but we are supposed to believe that they know about a new iPhone that has not been announced and they even know the prices on it and what features it has? There is nothing CONFIRMED about this at all. This whole thing smells like BS.

It seems like more and more lately (really with the iPhone only) this forum has become a launchpad for silly rumors. It seemed like in the past if you put something like "CONFIRMED" in your post, and it was based purely on rumor, that it would get locked or deleted.... now it seems this forum gobbles this stuff up. If this keeps up, I'm outta here.... Seriously... I don't have time to wade through all the useless posts anymore...
