[UPDATE!!! DO NOT MISS THIS!!!]
This is just a heads up for anyone who has been thinking about the HD-DVD player for the 360.

Best Buy has it right now $180. Buy it and get Heroes Season One in HD for free as well as 2 more HD-DVDs of your choice for free. Remember it comes with King Kong already. PLUS - print this page out for "300" for free and talk to a manager (nicely) and they might give it to you for free as well (I did...)

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=category&id=pcmcat128600050027

And don't forget that this player also has the 5 free HD-DVDs with the mail in offer. So...

The player, possibly 9 HD-DVDs and Heroes Season One for $180.

Turn around and sell all of the media and you might get the player for close to nothing... or make money...

[UPDATE]
Well ... Ummm ... this deal just got ridiculous. Apparently the 2 extra HD DVDs apply to ANY HD Media - like say ... Sopranos Season 6 Part 1 ($120) and Sopranos Season 6 Part 2 ($110) ... not just movies under $34.99. Not sure if this is a computer glitch or what (probably), but you can't beat this deal. They are practically giving away money right now. Everything should ring up just fine at the checkout as well - no manager needed...

~$530 of purchased items for $190...

All for the equivalent of £90, mighty fine deal! Shame we'll never see deals that good in the UK.

I bought the hd dvd add on 2 weeks ago and it worked great the first time I used it. Next time I go to use it the player won't work and since it was past the 7 day gamestop return period I had to send it back to microsoft.

Woah! Wish I had a 360 just for that. Heroes Season 1 is amazing, and in HD?

I've got friends with 360's, how much time left on this deal?

^ Since the battle is still very much a goer for both formats, for $180 that is a unbelievable offer and almost irrisitable if you already have a ps3, and a 360...

Though I paid €150 for my HD-DVD for the 360, I still think that was a good buy and have no regrets. :)

Care to explain ?

Nearly all movies recorded on FILM are High Definition. That's why they can go back to the master and reproduce the fim in HD on either BD or HD-DVD.

Awesome, so they didn't just upscale it with fancyness but made a whole new copy in HD?

Heh, could just flog the other 3 films I'd have to get.

No, film has always been fantastic quality, it's just that the other mediums that carried it (video, dvd, low resolution screens) never showed off the full quality. HD allows it.

Some of the older films actually look A LOT better than some of the new ones in HD, it's really quite surprising.

:)

Indeed. I don't have any Blu-ray movies yet though. I'll have to see if there's anything interesting available.

When's the Xbox Blu Ray drive out? Christmas is soon...

Actually, MS just updated the Core package, called XBox 360 Arcade. For $279 you now get the core XB360 with an HDMI port, the wireless controller (instead of the wired), and the 256Meg memory card filled with 5 XBox Live Arcade games.

I just read on the web that MS and Toshiba has in the works an XBox 360 Entertainment Package. It's an XBox 360 with a built-in HD DVD drive. MS won't comment when asked about it... ;)

MS's reply to the new $399 PS3.

It's a great time to buy high-def gaming consoles... :p

WHAT! can we do that ? are you saying HD-DVD playback on a Mac ?

Has it been confirmed. The mac Tiger does indeed see the HD-DVD drive and it works with normal DVD's through DVD player, bur because DVD-Player on tiger doesnt support HD via a disc it doesnt play HD-DVD

Leopard DVD player was meant to introduce BluRay & HD-DVD support so in theory it should work a treat.

When my leopard arrives I'll give it a go :)
