View Full Version : Deleted empty space, literally

Yes, I'm an idiot. In an attempt to clean house and make my computer run faster, I deleted a bunch of old files and ran the Delete Empty Space feature under Disk Utilities. Now I have zero free space and programs won't start, and something about startup not working. I have a G4 notebook with os x version 10.4.10

What did I do wrong, and what do I do now?

What programs did you delete?

Do you have the 10.4 DVD handy?

I didn't delete any programs.

If the startup disk is anywhere in this office, it's not handy...

Try using WhatSize (http://www.id-design.com/software/whatsize/index.php), OmniDiskSweeper (http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnidisksweeper/), or Disk Inventory X (http://www.derlien.com/) to look for any large files if you can get your machine running. I'd be willing to bet it's either a runaway log file or a temp file of some sort.

But you may have to end up booting from a disc if you can find it.

Running the WhatSize program and deleting some more superfluous files seems to have worked it out. Thanks!
