OS X 10.5 Leopard:
If I wish to image my OS X hard disk, will this functionality be built into Leopard or will I still need CarbonCopyCloner, or Copy X, or the like?
I would like to have the ability to backup and restore to "bare metal".

Thanks!

For means of creating a bootable backup (as you would with CCC or SuperDuper), you still need these products I believe.

Using asr and Disk Utility you could always image OS X.

It's not that easy or pretty but you can.

So, would this allow me to do what amounts to sector based imaging... I mean, not a copy but an actual duplication? Are there steps online to nudge me in the right direction?

Ah yes... Cloning is the key word. I'd like to clone into a single file for possible use later...

Ah.. Answering my own question... there are steps online, but I like the ease of using software rather than terminal commands.
