This poll is confusing. If I'm "considering", isn't that the same as "thinking about it"?

What's to consider? Does anyone have specs? I might consider one if the processor speed went up to 1.4 and a 120 GB harddrive. And how about a couple of ports on the front? You can add a few and not mar the beauty of the thing.

Yup, I will be looking into an iMac on the next rev. The wife, who eats/sleep/lives UNIX at work had caught a bad case of Mac envy with my PowerBook. The other night she was finally got fed up with her home machine (a Dell) and dropped a new Mac on on her "before Christmas" list and said you can do whatever you want with this (the Dell) piece of ****.

I love the LCD iMac, but it's a PowerBook G5 for me or nothing!

(As long as my PBG3 holds out that long.)

I'm a poweruser..

PowerMac or Powerbook..

Those are my only options.. I know that I otherwise would regret my descission..

I also go with the highest model.. then I cannot blame myself: "Damn I should have bought the higher model..."

If this rev looks good, again, my wife will most likely be a proud owner. As for me, the next rev (PowerBook) will have to double the performance of my current G4 (an 800 DVI) otherwise I am also waiting for a G5.

Not considering. In fact, I just SOLD my iMac in order to fund the purchase of a G5 which I haven't received yet.

no not considering - even now that they have been released...

I already have a monitor for a desktop, which will probably be a G5 Rev. B.

Plus, anything with 1 processor and a g4 seems slow now. :p ;) :D

If I had money and was on the edge of say buying a desktop or a notebook, not that that will happen since my next comp will be a notebook invariably, I might consider it ;)

Pretty much the same here.

The trailing of performance was why I didn't buy a DP PowerMac, so why would I now buy a SP iMac? The only reason I see to buy a ~1GHz G4 today is because I want a laptop.

If I were a buyer who upgrades my PC every 18-24 months, then I would have bought a 17" iMac when they first came out, and I'd be buying a G5 now.

My G5 can be ordered as soon as I get my business travel claims filed...so I'd better stop reading & posting here! C'Ya!

Have no need for an iMac, I'll be getting a tower if I get a desktop machine. But I'm just waiting for next September so I can buy a new laptop.

No, I have no plans to purchase a iMac. My sights like many others is ona Power Mac G5. Still haven't decided yet on the timing. I want a 23" Cinema Display.

The rumors of iMac updates are over with. It's true... there were iMac updates. Check your .mac email account if you have one. Oh, and I won't be getting one due to me saving for the G5.

I am honestly now for the first time *considering* buying an imac for my house. I too am a "poweruser" but I do my work (mostly) at the office, and I do a fair amount of "powerplaying" at home - and these new specs seem to finally be in the range of what I'd like at the house.

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have a dual 2 Ghz G5 at home, but I don't *need* that much power. and besides - my kids can't use an iMac as a cheese grater when I'm not looking.

The office, however, is a different story altogether. There's no cheese there.

I'm perfectly happy with my 17" iMac 800. But the new specs are great.

Please send me tips on how to keep the office cheese free. Man - it's bad with the cheese where I work.

Me too - happy with my iMac 17" 800. Need a laptop for portability - going back and forth to university. Buying as soon as updates are released.

The iMac no longer has the price advantage it once did. The eMac is much cheaper. If I didn't mind another all-in-one system that's what I'd get. 15" LCD is too small.

I'd rather an iBook/PB than an iMac. I'd prefer a G5 if the 1.6 was a dual CPU machine.

Then get a $1299 PowerMac G4. It supports PC VGA LCDs. You don't need to get Apple's LCDs. I've seen some 17" LCDs for as little as $350.

I could not justify a tricked out iMac at $2,448.00, when a new G5 costs $1900.00. I don't think Steve can either. Will be interesting to see the sales numbers 3 months from now.

Amazing, that my ibook 600 still does everything I need it to do ... I hope Panther is gentle on the MHz.

The $2448 iMac is that cost because Apple is charging you the exhorbitant high prices from their contract for purchasing RAM. You can always custom build that machine with less RAM and buy it elsewhere:
