right now i only have a home built computer with windows me. it has a firewire port. would i be able to connect that with an emac by firewire and share my internet connection? i have a cable modem attatched to my computer via usb. i can connect via ethernet to my modem directly, but that would double my monthly charge.

just wondering if this is possible. i mostly care about internet sharing. file sharing would be a plus, but if i cant have both, thats fine.

thanks!

I had this problem, connect to the net using your mac. Then run a crossover cable to your pc. Turn on internet sharing in the sharing system pref and my friends pc/my ibook use the powermac as a router and go online without any trouble.

get a cheap ethernet HUB, plug the modem on the uplink port and the PC and Mac on the other ports. connect with the PC and share it to the mac. they won't charge you for that cause they can't even know you've done it.

lol well i kinda have a picky situation. our internet can only be set up on the pc (mac is going in my room, no cable) and i would rather do it w/o using ethernet. my pc is already bad enough.

thx!

How does that work-if you plug two computers into your cable modem your charge doubles? I've never heard of that, please explain.

How bout a Router? Get a linksys combo router/Wireless Access Point.

Plug the cable modem's ethernet into the WAN port, the PC to one of the 4 available ports and put an Airport card in your Mac and viola! Shared internet, no extra cable modem charges and no wires going to your machine.

Abt US 99 for the Router/WAN
79 - 99 US for the AirPort card (79 for non Extreme, 99 for Extreme).

thats only if one is connected through usb and the other through ethernet.

im not sure, but would it work if i got a simple usb hub, attatched it to my cable modem, and then connected one cord from the hub to pc and the other from the hub to mac? ive never had any experiences with a hub. it seems simple, but i don't know if the hub would be compatible if it was hooked directly to my cable modem
