Any idea when the Mac version will come out? Will it be this year or... 2009 :(. Also will the online be with PC users?

Since you could play UT2004 against pc users(at least through LAN) I am sure you will be able to for UT3 as well, I have a hard time imagining that people releasing games these days for pc and mac won't let them play together online. though i am sure there are some technical reasons for some games why they can't. as far as release date.....hopefully before christmas...but who knows for sure.:apple:

No date has been given for either the Mac or Linux version of UT3, although I think it is safe to assume early 2008, depends how fast Icculus/Ryan Gorden (http://icculus.org/cgi-bin/finger/finger.pl?user=icculus) is working on it.
The UT series has always been 100% cross-platform compatible and it would be downright stupid of Epic not to do it for UT3, they have no reason not too. It's pretty much guaranteed to be playable with the Windows people from the Mac version.

I haven't been following Ryan too closely lately so I'm a bit behind.
I do know he has been working on the Linux version (and subsequently the Mac version) for quite some time now. Once he gets the Linux version of it done it is easy for him to bring it to the Mac.
If we're lucky we could see it before 2008, the full game and maybe the demo rather soon. There is a working UT3 Linux server already as is, not too far from getting the full client done after that part.

Well apparently Epic just announced UT3 for November 19th, so that probably means Linux/Mac versions not long after.

I would have expected Quake Wars long before UT3, but it's a tough call :)

When UT2k4 came out, the Mac version was released only 3 weeks later... I gotta go 2k7 on this...

I don't think the Mac version will come out too much later than the PC version. I look forward to buying it.
I installed the Windows demo via Boot Camp, and Wow. The game runs pretty well, and the effects, gameplay, and graphics are all top-notch. I'm just happy UT is back! :D
Here's (http://browse.files.filefront.com/Unreal+Tournament+3+Official+Demos/;2090648;/browsefiles.html) the Windows version of the demo if anyone is interested. It's a 741 MB download. Also if you are installing this on an external or secondary drive you need about 2+ GB free on your C drive due to the temporary files it extracts. ;)

Isn't Quake Wars being ported by Asypr? Quake Wars is id software, not Epic..so can you really compare when you would except it to a completely different game and company?:apple:
EDIT: I'm not trying to make an argument, I just am wondering if that is what you meant to say, and if you did, if you really thought about it first...

Hey, I was searching Google for any news or rumors on the status of UT 3 for the Mac and came upon this old thread. I don't post here that much, but I've been coming here for years and read many pages of comments on the front page stories.
Anyway, I was just wondering if people have heard ANYTHING about what the hell is going on with this game. Last official update we have on the MacSoft website (www.destineerstudios.com/macsoftgames/) is that it was supposed to come out in Spring '08. Well, summer is now almost over and no update at all on its status. I'm getting really worried about this game. I'm sure a lot of people have probably already just bought the Windows version, but I really try hard to support Mac gaming development, and was holding out for a Mac version. I downloaded the Windows demo (running Boot Camp on a MacBook Pro with WinXP), and it's awesome. I'll hold out for the Mac release for a bit longer, but it's getting ridiculous. If the game isn't out for Mac by the end of this year, I may just have to break down and get the Windows version. Has anyone heard anything about its status beyond the very little information that MacSoft has given us?
Thanks,
Adam

No, it is not; there is no UT4. That's UT2004, AKA UT2.5.

My guess is Epic,MacSoft are stuck in this time warp hence not a single word about what ever happened to this one for the Mac.

Thats interesting.. You'd think this would get mentioned by staff on the Epic forums. But no! And if anyone asks about it on there, the posts are either deleted, locked, or locked with a link left pointing to an outdated FAQ that doesn't say anything useful at all.
Would be nice of this is for real, and actually works decently. Unfortunately I have my doubts though

I have my doubts too. I've been watching Inside Mac Games for news on this game, I haven't seen any in the last couple of months. I don't particularly trust that Amazon date and it's strange that Macsoft and Epic have been so quiet on this game.

Amazon dates are pretty meaningless. They always have SOME kind of date in their system, but it's generally only a guess.

Well.. Just to prove how worthless the Epic forum is, and how predictable their feeble admins are.. I did go ahead and ask about it on there today anyway. Pretty much what I expected from them

Correct, and just to prove it, I ordered this from them in May 2008 when it said it would be released June 2008. I got another email today saying the release date has changed and I wouldn't get it until mid-October 2008. Since May, I've had an email every month telling me it has been delayed.
I may have to give up :(

Anyone hear anything new about this game? I'm STILL waiting for some news. The flash intro (http://www.destineerstudios.com/macsoftgames/products/ut3/index.html) on their site says "THIS SPRING", but is that referring to spring '09, or is it just old crap from their original announcement from '07?

Theres a later post than this one where it was asked and answered already.
The short of it is, UT3 for Mac is known to be in progress. Just don't ask when we'll see it, because no one knows.

So you guys know, Icculus updated on 9/18/2008 with the following post. He is still diligently working on the Mac and Linux clients as you can see from the screenshots.
Just.... don't hold your breath.

(Also, 100% ignore any retailer's release date they put. They're just placeholders they make up in hopes that the product will be released by then... should be stopped if you ask me.)

^^that it possibly won't ever be released. There's been to many legal problems, the reviews hardly set the world alight and anyone who wants it is already bootcamping the PC version.

Macsoft still has the same posting they did from 2 years ago, either no one is home or they forgot all about this one. You would think someone at Macsoft would have the brains to say something to its customers. just yank the advertisement from 07 you knuckleheads.

I blame lack of interest and the fact that Icculus is a single guy with a lot of clients and projects to work on all at once. Look how only recently Prey came out with a Linux client, and that game is over two years old now. (Icculus did the Linux Prey port.)
I haven't seen, read, or heard any evidence in the past year to suggest UT3 is being held up by any legal reasons as well (not that I'm the sole source of information, I just pay attention to this game series). The only 'recent' thing I've heard is my earlier post here back in november.
So, in sort, It'll come sometime, just need to be patient.

Is it possible to run unreal tournament in CrossOver Games instead of Bootcamp? I would rather not have to restart to play a quick game before dinner. What has everyone's experience been with this?

Which UT game are you talking about? There are four now, so if you aren't talking about UT3 I'd start a new thread for game-specific help.
Either way though, I can almost guarantee that UT3 wouldn't run in Crossover due to its requirements with shaders and whatnot. According to the Wine AppDB (which Crossover uses), the game barely runs. Better off booting into Windows and running it natively.

I saw the PC version for $12 today at GameStop. I already got the PC version for $19, the collectors edition even, and I've been enjoying it ever since. I gave up on the Mac version and I'm running it through bootcamp. :)
I'd suggest if you have an Intel Mac, find yourself a cheap copy of XP and UT3 and enjoy the game. I wouldn't hold my breath for MacSoft to release the game, or even speculate when they may finally release it.

I wish I could run it under Virtualbox + XP, but there's no way something so graphics-intensive would fly. Rebooting into Windows is too painful for me... guess I'm stuck on UT2004 for a while, or perhaps forever.

Rebooting isn't that bad, if your machie is new and quick enough to run the game and you have XP it's much better then waiting for the Mac version, which will probably never come out at this point. :p
