I need to use a translation software called Translateit! very often. Is it possible to assign a shortcut to pull it out from the dock and hide it back? Also, it has a function called "point and look up" which allows me to translate the words where the mouse points to, however, it requires assistive devices in the universal access to be turned on. I need to turn this on occasionally, can I also assign a shortcut for it?

Can somebody help me:(
Try:
System Preferences -> Keyboard and mouse -> Far right tab should read "Keyboard short cuts"
Have a fiddle around in there....
Since i doont have the same software or much experiance with keyboard shortcuts I cant help you much more than that!
Hope this helps!

Use Quicksilver...
I have it set as Command+Space - then start typing the app name.
Quick Command+H to hide it after you've used it.
Probably the easiest way to do what you want to do

I downloaded the Quicksilver and installed it already. How do I assign a keyboard shortcut for the application I use very frequently? I know I can type in the name to search, but it is inefficent. Thanks for help

I tried that way, nothing happened though. I assigned cmd + 2 for the software.
