Quick Time Machine Question

Hey I have my external HD connected it shows up and I can go through it but it's not being listed as a drive for time machine on the initial set up. Any help on why it's not coming up? Thanks.

TimeMachine requires a certain format for HDs. And as of current, network HDs won't work, so is your HD hardwired to your Mac?
