People have been wondering how to bring back the old way the dock handled folders (without the stacks). All you have to do is add an alias. =]

How to bring back how the Dock handled folders

Well, that does allow you to open the folder the alias points to quickly, but it doesn't allow you to navigate the folder and subfolders.
