I am a new iMac (intel) user (from pc) and a bit getting frustrated with the quality of sound I was recording. My needs are simple, to be able to record whatever sounds that I hear and listen to it with the same quality (or near) as the original source. I tried 2 softwares so far to record my audio stream: Audio Hijack pro and recordpad but the output seems to be really poor, like the sound is coming out of nowhere. I am thinking that maybe there is a way to tinker with the sound setting in iMac or something. Maybe it has nothing to do with the software itself.

I used freecorder (a firefox extension) before when recording internet streams from a PC and the output was great, near quality copy of the original sound source. I thought it is a straight forward as using an iMac too.

Can somebody point me to the right direction?

You could try WireTap Studio (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/wiretap/). It allows you to preview the output at different a bitrate before recording. Thus, allowing you to choose which setting is the best to your ears.

I hope this helps you. ;)
