Does anyone have any experience of using this or similar system. Sounds like content is encoded into QuickTime or variation then sent to edit. Sounds like a bad idea encoding footage before edit. I see there is Raw DV format is that what would be preferable? If so, how much SD/HD footage could fit onto their 60GB drives?

It sounds like a dream come true but could be an expensive mistake. mmm.... (while stroking his beard)

Yes, they work. They encode the same way the camera does. But for DV, I really don't see a point is spending that much for capture storage. Tapes are cheaper, more reliable, and a very good archival format. The firestore is more aimed at HVX users that tend to record to 8,16, and now 32gb P2 cards and need longer shooting times. A 60gb firestore would give you about 4hrs of DV footage.
