My setup has changed dramatically since the last time I posted. Upgraded the 20" iMac to a 24" and got a better desk to suit it.

Yeah but surely a few missing capitals is better than 'CHECK OUT MI ORSUM SETUP GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D ROCKON :apple:!!!!!!'?
Yes, but what annoys me is that s/he correctly capitalised the second half of the post, thus proving that it isn't above his/her mental constitution to use the shift key.
I recommend that you definately read "Eats shoots and leaves", it's one of the best books I have ever encountered on the subject of grammar and the way in which it is used. People like you and I are therein known as "Sticklers".
Proud to be a stickler :)
Hah, yes, I think somebody bought me a copy a couple of years back but I have yet to (search it out &) read it.

I dunno about on the ceiling above your bed. It'll be awesome until 4AM one night when you wake up to a broken leg and a TV on your bed.
Haha, yea. That'd be the only reason I wouldn't mount it up there. From what I hear it's relatively safe, but...

Mount INTO the stud / support and have a secondary restraint - say a steel cable going to another support - so in the event of a failure - you have a backup. I think some places actually have codes in place requiring this, too.

Yes, this camera is something that never should have seen the light of day, but I needed a camera, had $40, so an off brand camera from Wal-Mart was what I could get.

Wise decision, the 24" is the way to go, i see you've got photoshop on that machine, so 24" would be nice to edit you pictures on a big screen, its also good for movies:rolleyes:, did you send it back to apple, or sell it on ebay?

I think that CRT's provide a more even picture, they're more durable, easier to clean and cheaper as well. Plus I don't have to worry about people touching my screen. Touch it all you want, you're not going to harm it!:)

Speaking of CRTs... I've spent the morning re-arranging mine!
http://www-old.cs.st-andrews.ac.uk/~cjd44/public_repository/scratch/IMGP0313.jpg
Both CRTs were pulled from skips, both were legendary in their day, but both now have their issues. The left is a 20" Silicon Graphics (Sony Triniton tube) which doesn't go as bright as it should do, the right is a 21" Mitsubishi Diamond Pro (Diamondtron tube) which shows horizontal banding in line with bright contrast boundaries, which is probably just due to a dry solder join on the HD15 input board if I could be bothered to open it up & repair it!
Well, I will hook up one of my LCDs for my (little used) XP box, then neaten stuff up. A spot of lunch too...
(PS - I also have a 21" Sony Triniton TV in the other corner of the room, which I also pulled from a skip! It's become quite the past time since moving here, I picked up an old blue clamshell iBook yesterday).

Mine's a 320GB (the silver one beneath it is also a 320GB Barracuda!). I'm a long time Seagate fanboy, but there are 2 things I dislike about the drive. 1.) it comes formatted as NTFS & 2.) the firmware power management has serious issues with Linux (& maybe Mac, though I've never used mine on my Mac) & can only be turned off via the Windows software (until somebody wrote a bashscript to modprobe it). Still, spending a couple of minutes disabling the feature is definately worth it for the Barracuda reliability & the 5-year warranty.
Anyway, a spot of lunch & some progress;

The messy cable on the left trackball can't really be helped, it has an extension cable on it so I can control music/movies/anime from my bed (which I'm standing on to take the photo, speakers are just to the left & right of the photo, you can see the edge of the right one with it's wire hanging down & the cable for the left one taped to the carpet).

you could buy a very cheap one, like an old dell 17 inch, or gateway 17 inch, but you dont care i guess, you could get your parents to lend you some money for the new keyboard!!

well, in 5 years, CRT's may just be history, and an LCD would be essential, more energy saving, they banned the Incadecant bulb in california, soon it may be the whole US, then they'll ban the CRT's in cali, then the whole US, they are more efficient, and if you think the colors are vivid enough for you, you can always cal brate it, a LCD will give you a lot of desk space to.
I'm the same about my iMac.. I don't really care who uses it touches etc... but I am like a hound when it comes to my MBP :D
well, you've got the new imac (like me!) that has a glass over the LCD, so if you touch the screen, you leave a fingerprint! what kind of mbp do you have, glossy, or antiglare?

sony trinitrons are good displays, even their CRT's, i used to have a sony trinitron CRT, it was HUGE, like 22 inch, big for a CRT, it was pretty good, my other dell CRT, was horrid, it was like 14 inch, and most CRT's are like that, but you have some pretty good ones there, you should try to get money for an LCD though:o, you will save desk space, you seem very cramped there, an LCD would be a great investment, if you cant afford even an old dell 17 inch, ask your parents for some money, and pay them back later!!

he has little space, unless he shoots holes in the desk for the wires to go through, he is pretty much hopeless at hiding wires :(

You crack me up man. I know it's a Mac site, but there's nothing wrong with having a PC as well. What's wrong with having the best of both worlds? I'm pretty sure everyone on this site would agree that Macs are better in just about every way, but I'm not sure many would agree that less options are better than more. For people who like to tweak with stuff, the ideal setup would be an easy and cheaper to upgrade PC running Windows or Linux and a Mac for everything else. Have you ever built a PC from scratch? It's quite fun!

'Even their CRTs'? You do realise that ALL Trinitons are CRTs? There is no such thing as an LCD Triniton. The name 'Triniton' refers to the Triniton tube & LCDs don't tend to have tubes...

In case you completely ignored the rest of my post(s) I have a 17" NEC Multisync LCD (you even quoted a picture with it in), 2x 15" LG Flatron LCDs & a further 15" OEM LCD. The decade old CRTs which I pulled from a skip have a.) higher resolutions b.) better colour reproduction & c.) are larger in terms of diagonal inches, than any of my LCDs, which is why the CRTs are on my desk & most of the LCDs are under my bed. I'm currently footing university tuition fees & accomodation bills (a lot of which is already loaned from my parents) so I sincerely doubt that they are going to buy me a nice new LCD, nor do I want one! If you want to see my setups with the LCDs, have a look through this page (http://www-old.cs.st-andrews.ac.uk/~cjd44/public_repository/scratch/workstations.html).

I think you missed my point. The fun in building a PC comes from deciding on each component and making sure they all work together then putting it all together. Most people want their PC to 'just work' and in that case Mac is the clear winner, but for tweakers like myself, I like to mess around with PC's as well. The most i've done to my Powerbook is upgrade the HD, Combo Drive and RAM and install the airport express card. :)

Well, atm I have no time for a job in addition to my studies & even if I did all of the money I earnt would go straight back into paying off my debts or would be saved for the next slew of bills. And as I said before, I don't even *want* to replace the CRTs with LCDs. Not only will the CRTs have better colour reproduction than the LCDs, but I have an ingerent distaste for 16:10 monitors & there are currently NO affordable, high-res 4:3 LCDs on the market, nor will there be in the future. No company manufactures 4:3 panels with a resolution higher than 1280*1024 except for the fields of CAD & other professional fields, & these cost ludicrus amounts of money.

You remind me of my college professor in my digital media program. He always told us the very thought of using an LCD for anything where colour accuracy is paramount is absolutely insane. He also told us that it is physically impossible for flat screen CRT's to have accurate geometry and the only acceptable display for graphic design is a curved screen CRT.

I decided I wanted to mount the Dell on the wall today, but didn't want to spend the money for a bracket, so I pulled it off it's base and found a way to mount it. So an hour later it now looks like this;

That panel is two generations old. The 30" wasn't even released in that bezel design. My guess is it's a 20" given the size of the icon.
So can you tell us how you mounted the panel? You obviously fished the wires/cables into your wall. Nice setup.
Link to wallpaper too if you can. I love F1, full stop.

And I would LOVE to have the new Apple Keyboard, but like I said above, I'm broke. :)
And uh, that strip is a piece of duct tape. I was bored, put it on and haven't taken it off :o

Thanks! It's the 24"er. Yea the extra desk space is great, my desk is barely 2' deep and the monitor on the stand took up almost half that.

It was real easy to mount the monitor without spending the $200 for a mount. There are 3 openings on the back of the monitor where 3 teeth from the stand snaps into it. Well 2 well placed and anchored screws that hook into the openings and that bad boy ain't going anywhere. I couldn't yank it off the wall if I tried.
And I got the wallpaper from either this months or last months desktop thread here.
Now I just need to do something about that center speaker and get a wireless keyboard and i'll be set.

I actually really like it. For a long time I used a old Nan Tan Corp keyboard with Alps 'clicky' springs, but eventually I found the reflex on the keys too harsh on my hands/wrists after long coding sessions. A couple of months earleir I had bought the Eclipse for my gaming machine & decided to switch it into service as my main keyboard. It has a really nice soft reflex to it that I can type on for 10+ hours without discomfort. It's not metal backed, but I was initially extremely surprised at how heavy, sturdy & well made it is.
Oh & the wrist wrest is hard plastic, not padded.

Switcher!? Ha, I've been using Mac's for 3 1/2 years! :D The laptop was only $379 at Best Buy, so I picked up in August. It's been decent so far, even with Windows Vista!
As for the whole sub thing, i had it sitting on the floor and didn't notice a huge difference. The bass hit a little harder, but it wasn't something that I was wowed about. Plus, the left speaker cord doesn't reach long enough to the sub so the setup becomes cluttered.
The iMac, yeah I probably could have gotten a better price. But $850 is a lot cheaper than spending $1200 on a new 20" iMac. The refurb 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo iMac's are going for $700, so for $150 for a better processor, more RAM, much better video and all that other crap is worth it.

It's a Compaq Presario C563NR. I've owned 2 HP's and this one has been the best so far. The build quality leaves a lot to be desired, but for under $400 who can beat it? It has a Celeron M 1.5GHz, 1.5GB RAM (I added 1GB), 80GB HD, 15.4" Brightview Widescreen, DVD Burner, and Vista Home Basic. I really do like it, and it's really great laying in bed and browsing the web. Make sure you get another 1GB of RAM though, the 512MB it came standard with with horrible. It took 5 minutes just to boot to the desktop...

Yeah i was actually quite surprised to find it had a single 1GB DIMM. The machine was supposed to ship with 2x512MB, but I guess Apple gave me a Christmas present after all. :D
To be honest, I've had a 160GB HD before (my Dell I got last year had one) and I only used 30GB of it. Even right now, only 25GB of my HD is full. I don't have that many files (about 1100 songs, couple of movies, and 1600 photos) so it will be a really, really long time before I come close to getting full.

No problem! Upgrading the RAM is extremely easy. Simple as taking 2 screws out and popping the RAM in there. Best Buy doesn't sell this laptop anymore, but check them out along with the HP website, because they just introduced a new model. Also check out Circuit City, as they usually have good deals too.

I actually looked at purchasing a 3 year old Thinkpad for $500, but it had a small HD, no DVD burner, and a 14" screen. My laptop is very decent for what it does, but I'm not a huge fan of Vista. If I had an XP disk I would erase and install that. Vista bogs down too much on the laptop (mainly because its a single core processor). As for build quality, it's obvious the laptop is cheap. The plastic creaks and the keyboard flexes alot. The Pentium M laptops I have looked at (higher end HP's, Lenovo, even Dell) are built better than mine is. But I really can't complain, the price was right were I wanted it to be.
Best Buy currently has a good deal on a Presario C700T. Has a Pentium Dual Core Processor (off brand Core Duo), 1GB RAM, 15.4" widescreen brightview display, 120GB HD, Vista Home Premium for $450. It's worth the extra $80 in my opinion. Much better specs wrapped in a new case design that is much more attractive.

Check out the Staples website. I can't find the desk I have, but I believe its made by Sauder.
emac? i just started to want a mac when those entered, and finally got a mac last year. Sauder?? really?? my desk is by sauder too, a pic in the sig, my desk is good, but a little shallow and cramped, but farely large, the only thing i dislike about yours is the fact that it has those CD slots, i find them a waste of desk space, your desk looks like it has more room for a 24 incher, say, should we switch? lol

yes, but i may want to alter that, i had an old sony vaio, they dont make the best, but they got some pretty good desktops, and they have ultra portable notebooks, oh, i forgot, im in love with my imac too, i cant get over it after a month, the 24" real estate is too small for me now, i had to set up 6 spaces to suit me, its very tough, macs are built for multitasking and fun :) i have pix in the sig!!!

I love your iMac. It's absolutely beautiful and if had another $300 to spend, I would have gotten a base 20". However, my iMac has been great! No issues with Leopard and nothing is defective here... thank god!
Ahhh my eMac. That was the best machine I have ever owned. It did everything I asked it to without any fuss at all. When I first wanted a Mac in 2004, it was between the eMac, iMac G5, and the iBook. The eMac suited me perfectly, and I had it loaded up with the Tilt and Swivel stand, Tiger and iLife '06, and 768MB RAM. I used it until last year, when I got a Dell for some reason. Now the eMac sits in my brother's room and when he gets a desk, I'm gonna help him set it up and tell him how to use it.
I hate the CD racks on my desk too. I think it helps support the two cubby's on the side though, so I didn't want to risk taking it down. Your 24" should fit as long as you don't have a printer sitting next to it like mine. My iMac is a pretty tight fit right now, but take the printer and Compaq out the picture and it's fine. I love my setup, it's exactly the way I want it (well a Macbook and new HP printer would be nice!) :D

why thank you lol. btw, the white macbook is my grandma's, and that other guy was my grandpa holding my dads mbp, i just needed to get a shot of the elderly using to different models of apple laptops:rolleyes:
well, my canon mp470 sits fine on top of my desk, and neither do i realize why you... g-g-got a P-E-C...last year? being a mac user, PC? im not getting that, i hope it was your parents decision to get the PC. and yes, and 20 inch would work like a charm, but it comes with 1, 2, 4 gb ram, if you want three, your going to have to play it cool and change the ram your self or do some kind of game. for $300, its EXTREMELY worth it, which is why i say, that $850 price you payed was an extreme RIP OFF, you get a new spanking imac, 20 inch, worth $300 right there, better video card, bigger HD, im not sure if you have CD or C2D, but if you have CD, then you get C2D of the same speed, and plus they have Al 20 inch refurbs on apple's site that are like $50 cheaper!!!! you should have gone for that.
and your decision back then was between an emac, and imac g5? i dont understand, i think you mean imac g4, cuz if g5 was out, why did you go for an emac when the imac is nicer, and better? then you would have gotten a new Al imac this year cuz your parents didnt want to buy the same looking computer again!

I had an eMac (my mother has it now). At the time, I too had to decide between an eMac + iMac G5. I didn't go with the G5 because I'm not a huge fan of the design, there is something about the eMac that feels so classic, and the price-point between the two machines solidified my decision. The last revision eMac is no slouch... 160 GB HD, 1.42 GHZ, 64 MB VRAM... plays Halo like a dream!

Thanks a lot for the info! I'm considering getting one now. Would be nice if the wrist rest was padded, but it's not a huge deal.

Nah the PC was my decision. I like using both platforms, but I do def. prefer the Mac. Windows hasn't ever given me any trouble with viruses or spyware, i just hate that it's so boring and really doesn't deliver like OS X has. Plus, I got an awesome deal on my Dell. My brother has it now, and eventually we are going to trade out the 2 1/2 year old Dell in our office and put the 1 yr old Dimension E521 there instead. Has 19" Flat Panel, 1GB RAM, AMD Dual Core processor, etc. I still like that machine, but all of my Macs have been superior.
My iMac is the Core 2 Duo. I had a budget of $500 for Christmas, so my parents spent that and I gave them $350 for the rest of the iMac. It's a really great machine, and I think going to a 20" would've been a waste since I just browse the web and do iTunes stuff like that.
At the time, the iMac G4 had been discontinued. It was also slower than my eMac since it had 256K L2 Cache and the eMac had 512k. The iMac G5 at the time was $1300, and there was no way they were going to pay for all that. Plus, it was my first Mac so I didn't need all that power. It would've been nice, but the eMac was a great machine and I still miss using it. Though, this iMac sure is making up for it! :)

Price. The iMac G5 was probably VERY expensive back then compared to a refurbished eMac. I also switched to the Mac around the same time period and only paid $799 for my eMac and the iMacs were quite a bit more than that.
And Ryan, good to see you get your iMac set up and glad to hear it doesn't have any issues. The 17" chin does look huge compared to the 20" and 24" models, but it doesn't look bad. I've always thought it made 'em look distinctive and different. Very cool, IMO.

Yeah the eMac was $800, and the iMac G5 was $1300. The Mac mini was not out at the time (I switched in October 2004) and the eMac has a design that reminds me of the snow iMac G3 (i love the iMac G3 design!) but with a much better screen and specs. Plus, the iMac specs were not that great. You could get a SuperDrive eMac for $1000 at the time and the only difference was a worse gfx card and slower processor. I also used a G5 iMac, and the performance was ok. I believe OS X is much, much better optimized for the Intel platform. PowerPC was ok when it was around, but Intel is clearly superior.
Thanks! I loved my eMac, but this iMac is no question the best computer I have ever used in my entire life. I love it! I was worried that I was gonna have an issue with Leopard, or bad pixels or something, but I was relieved to boot it up this morning to find it was perfect. Popped in 3GB of RAM and it was ready to go. Plus, Leopard is amazing. The new features are worth the growing pains!

Yep, I switched in December, '04. The Mac mini came out the next month.
It's okay, though. I actually liked my eMac better than even my Core Duo mini, because of the faster HD, a real graphics card, etc. Plus, it was an all-in-one and just looked awesome. I still love the design of the eMac.
My iMac has one dead pixel, but it's barely even noticeable unless you stare right at it. I didn't even notice it 'til a couple of days after I got it or something. Not a big deal to me, especially since everything else on this iMac is perfect so far. (Got it in August) I love it.

Yeah my Core Duo Mac mini was my least favorite machine. It was rather slow (even though though I knew it needed more than 512MB RAM), and the design just didn't look good to me. I thought my eMac was much faster, and it always looked nicer than the mini. As a matter of fact, I liked using my Dell more than the mini  If Apple got rid of that machine, i wouldn't be too upset.
Ok so my iMac isn't perfect...haha. There is a small scratch on the screen that is only noticeable on white backgrounds. At the bottom of the screen there is a small dent, i'm actually not sure what it is. But they are both fine with me. Nothing to call AppleCare about... my machine is still perfect in my eyes.

Yeah many Macworld tests showed that the iMac was slower than the eMac in many areas. The only area which it excelled was gaming, where the iMac had a GeForce FX 5200 compared to the eMac's slow ATI Radeon 9200.
To be honest, I prefer the design of the iMac G4 in every way. It's stunning, and every time I see a picture of one I am reminded of that design. The new iMac's are less versatile since you can't move the screen from side to side. Plus, the dome is just cool looking. When the iMac G5 came out, I didn't like it at first. I quickly warmed up to it, and it now comes a close second to the G4 iMac's.

Hmm, my friend up in new jersey has an imac g4, he loved it to death, he would always brag about it, literally, he was a mac genious, 1 1/2 years ago, he left for college, and took a gateway with him, i visited him oct 27th, right after leopards release, he totally forgot about the mac, he still remembers that he has it obviously, remembers how to use it, but even forgot what the dock is, he says its slow, its pretty fast for me, he says he doesnt mind what operating system he uses anymore, but he does agree that macs are better. its really sad what he went through with that mac, it was his fave thing in the UNIVERSE. i told him about the macbook, he may get one in the summer to replace his gateway which is dreadfully slow

The iMac G4 is a classic. I really wish somebody could figure out how to put an Intel chip inside it. I think it would be awesome to see it transform from slow to fast as hell.

I remember seeing a thread around here or another forum about putting the internals from a Mac mini into a G4 shell, don't know whether it worked or not though
Your family has taste ;)
I'd like to see a 24" imac g4, it would be funny for the monitor to unbalance the actual dome :p

That fat thing is a 2nd gen iPod, they didn't have slim ones then haha. Am thinking of starting a collection of iPod. Will be getting a 3rd gen and 4th gen soon.
Oh that thing on the keyboard is a piece of cloth to prevent transfer of dirt/oil/whatever to the screen. Saved me from cleaning the screen a lot of times.

Much higher resolution with the monitor as well, enjoying it at 1680x1050!
Could only squeeze 1360x768 out of the tv, anything higher and the refresh rate would go out of whack, causing it to flicker and look like crap.

Dec 27, 2007, 08:32 PM
I'm betting that the tv is a 1366x768 tv, but for some reason they only like to get 1360x768. Same thing with my tv, you end up with a three pixel wide band on each side that are unused. I just have to find out how to get that resolution over DVI > HDMI for my VGA input on the tv broke.

All this resolution talk almost makes me want to go back to a CRT. I loved getting perfectly usable 1600x1200 resolution on a 21" monitor. Now I have either 1280x854 on my laptop, or 1280x1024 on my 17" LCD, or both of them put together for some bizarre hybrid shape/resolution. I miss the extra real estate, that's for sure!

Haha, I don't miss the bulkyness though, and the damage they did to my eyes.

We finally decided to treat ourselves to new computers. After spending 4.5 years with my 12" PowerBook, this 20" iMac feels huge! After unboxing, I had to get out the ruler to make sure they hadn't sent us 24" ones by mistake!

Sorry it's kinda dark but thats from actual low lighting in the room and i didn't feel like using flash. There's also the fact that my camera is REALLY crap eitherway.

Well, if you're being serious its a large bin that you hire and then fill it with crap and its then taken away, used if you're having a massive clearout or taking out a kitchen etc
Hehe, Thanks!

It's a special foil that is also used for guides or descriptions on museum walls for example. A friend of mine has a business where he plots all kinds of different foils for cars, walls, shop windows, etc. I just handed him a vector file, he cut it with his plotter and we put the artwork on my wall together.
@Prom1, yeah these arcade style graphics remember me of childhood too, and they look pretty impressive 3,5 x 2,5 meters tall. :)
If one day I'll be tired of "Asteroids" I'll pull it off and make a new "PacMan" or "Pong" or "Space Invaders" themed one.
I'll have to make a better quality picture sometime, like I said this one was taken really fast because I had the chance to have additional 2 17" apple laptops on my desk.:D

That's very fun. Of course, you seem to have messed up slightly by showing both the ship and a blown up ship. But it's cool enough that I won't hold it against you. ;)

The resolution (and ability to choose between so many resolutions) and clarity of CRTs are something that I definitely miss. It was always fun when I had my old 12" iBook hacked to do spanning rather than mirroring and to have that next to the giant 21". Of course, then I picked up a Quicksilver and things were a much more normal proportion. It was such a shock when I traded that system out. When the Mac Mini was introduced I sold the Quicksilver to a guy on the forums here, gave the CRT to a friend, and got a Mini and a Samsung 172x. My entire computer + monitor setup went from a giant heavy mess to a complete system that was smaller than my tower alone. Those were the days.

No it's not. But if you want more screen space you could bump it up to say 1200x1024.
It's only on LCD screens it's bad to have anything but the native resolution.

Ok here is my new setup, took me most of boxing day to get these all setup, the table had to be re sanded and re surfaced. I also wired up network data points under neath the desk for easy access if a friend brings there machine around etc.
I can't find my camera so i had to take this with my mobile phone hence the poor quality
I am still waiting on my new keyboard (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard_mice_combos/devices/164&cl=au,en) This is for my windows rig s the macbook has a wireless keyboard anyway. I hate the look of cables on desks.
Screen on the left - Connected to my windows rig, screen on the right is also connected to the windows rig. I do a lot of Remote admin work so i just switch it on to use the dual monitors. At the moment my macbook is connected to it via mini dvi.
I am still waiting also for my cable sleeves to hide those cables coming out from the desk.

Nick, I had that iMac - and its display puts my 24" C2D (also white) to absolute shame. Those had such gorgeous displays. Regret handing it off to my folks - but they NEEDED an iMac. (so sick of fixing their PC every other day)
Anyhow - real purpose of this - who makes that desk? Is it sturdy? I'm looking for a new desk, and I'm torn between a MEGA ULTRA GIGANTIC table / desk - or a smaller one like that. Point is - my desk is old and has a .7 human-leg width, then drawers and a type-writer "tray" - so in spite of being huge, I can't MOVE at all. I want to have some range of movement - you know, so my junk isn't crushed constantly.

apple symbol of imac (high res): http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa70/bluedoggiant/CIMG0086-2.jpg - but heres the down side of it, photobucket was gay enough to bum its res down a bit, so its not as crystal clear, so if you have a 24 inch imac, this may not look as beautiful as it does for me, any other screen smaller, like 23 inch, would view it fine, the coolest part about it, only applys to people with glossy screens, since the apple symbol is black, you cant see your self in the screen, but you can see yourself in the apple symbol :D, so its like your in the apple, only, move out, you wont see yourself on the Alu :D, its pretty cool, taken with my Casio Exilim EX-Z1080

It's actually an old IKEA Jerker that is now out of production. You can still find them used occasionally though. It's sturdy as a rock, and even though it isn't very wide, it's quite deep (over 3 feet), so there is plenty of space, as well as expandable storage.
If you can find one, I'd definitely go for it, though IKEA does make a model now that is similar, called the Frederik (I think).

I got a new camera today (Canon A570 IS), so I figured I would post some new pictures of what my room is like. Please note I have done no cleaning, this is a "normal" room for me. Maybe I'll clean it up after the new year and post back what it's like when it's all pretty.
All the papers and crap on my desk are the backlog of mail and crap from over the holidays -- I'm way behind at the moment, so pardon the mess. Also, my bed isn't made which isn't rare, but isn't normal. Finally, over in the corner near my guitar all that crap in the floor isn't mine; my roommates sister is storing some stuff in here until she gets a place to live, so I'm helping her out. :)

Just moved to the Dallas area for work and got my ideal setup.
Desk is the Mikael from ikea with "lack" printer table and shelves.

The drawers can be pulled out to make more desk space if I need it:

The little LACK table keeps the printer and internet setup mostly out of view but easy to reach. I like the usb port on the airport extreme (N wireless) so any computer in the apartment can print at any time.

I wanted some way to hold my DVDs without a large bookcase taking up too much of the small room. Winning design by my gf was two LACK shelves from ikea on the wall and it looks really cool.

My computers are a Athlon XP 3500+, Geforce 6800 gaming PC connected to a 23" Apple Cinema Display that badly needs updated. I love my Flight Sim 2004 and FSX and other PC games so it's hard to give up my Windows XP setup. Also starring my 2.0Ghz CD Macbook Pro that does internet work at home, but runs everything (games) when I am on the go.

Man, we've got some pretty nice setups here, I'm trying to convince my dad to get me a desk from Ikea, my desk is nice and everything, it has a cockboard built right in, a door in it, 6 mini shelves that are hidden, 2 speaker cubby wholes 3 cubby holes for files and stuff, a drawer, a file drawer, and a PC box holder, useless now for my imac, apart from that, the actual desk real-estate that i have is VERY little:mad:. So my imac's monstrous, sexy body, is taking over the desk with its to sidekicks, the 2 bose companion 2's, and my WD 500gb studio edition external, which right now im trying to hide behind my imac to save desk space, you can see my setup in the link in my sig. or just go up a couple posts :). I have a sauder, does anyone recommend to me a Beech Vineer color desk from Ikea that is no more that $450? I also need desk space for my school work, and just life, if you see my pix, desk a while back with my PC was crowded and junky with magazines, why? i had room, now, look at the new pix, hard to believe i dont even have room to make a mess:eek::eek:
