If a hd is formatted for timemachine can you also use it on a windows computer

If timemachine reformats my external drive can i still use it with xp

You would need something like MacDrive.

You also could split the external drive into two partitions, perhaps making one FAT32, and leaving the other for Time Machine. I have my external setup this way and it works great.
