Battery life and Lossless

I have a question about the iPod touch, or flash based players in general.
If they have no RAM and the data is being read from the Flash memory on a constant basis then playing Lossless files shouldn't decrease battery life, correct?

I am trying to decide on which iPod to get and since I have quite some Lossless files, and since iTunes still has no downencode option for other iPods than the Shuffle this would be really interesting.

Does anyone know whether they still use RAM at all?

There's probably more demand on the CPU so you might get a higher current draw.
