Living in Canada and looking to unlock an iPhone. If you have unlocked an iPhone with 1.1.1 and iPhoneSimFree can you just update to the 1.1.2 update without bricking the phone? Does it unlock the iPhone differently than other free unlocking tools out there?

Just wondering exactly how iPhoneSimFree works here.

Thanks

Addict

You are not answering my question. Unlocked iPhone with 1.1.1, unlocked with iPhoneSimFree. Can you just run iTunes and update the the iPhone (already unlocked) to 1.1.2 without it being bricked?

How did people upgrade unlocked iPhones (iPhoneSimFree) from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1? Did it brick those unlocked phones?

He did answer your question IPSF is NOT compatible with 1.1.2 meaning if you run the update YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE. Regardless of unlock status. You have to wait for them to update their software.

1.0.2 to 1.1.1 worked fine because the software was compatible. This isn't the case with 1.1.2

I've seen conflicting posts on different boards on this question, with some saying IPSF survives an upgrade to 1.1.2 (but perhaps not working with OTB 1.1.2 and 1.1.2 UK phones). The problem, of course, is that even if an IPSF unlock survives an upgrade to 1.1.2, the user must still find a way to activate their non-ATT SIM in order to make use of the unlock.

There are some folks working on a patched 1.1.2 lockdownd file that may address the non-ATT-activation issue, and if so, we should start seeing more posts soon telling us whether IPSF's unlock really survived (you'd think that IPSF's website would offer up some news soon, too).

guess i'll find out in a few minutes. Downloading 1.1.2 now. I'll post back in a few.

I figure the phone will still work if you are using ATT. I had used iphonesimfree when I was thinking about using tmobile, but finally decided to stay with ATT. Here we go.

Upgraded to 1.1.2 fine even with iphonesimfree previously installed. (Just a warning I am no longer using the unlock feature, since I am staying with ATT)

MotionxxUSxx, when you updated, did you do anything special? Or did you just hook up the iPhone, click on iTunes and let it update?

Anyone try the update with a non-ATT sim card. Just curious to see if this works.

Hi,

just wanted everyone to know that I updated to 1.1.2 and had to downgrade to 1.1.1. While my iPhone accepts my sim card and is activated and jailbroken using TIFF exploit, it won't select my carriers here. IT has them grayed out. I think this has to do with Apple's new blocks on the system using the new 04.02.13 firmware. I'll look into downgrading the firmware and report back on if that allows me to make phone calls again... any other tips and help is appreciated. Cheers!

PS: APPLE just freakin FREE the iPhone!

Nothing special, just hooked up and updated. I no longer have a foreign sim to try in the phone, but my att sim works fine.

IPSF unlocked phones work fine with 1.1.2, provided you unlocked them when you were on 1.1.1 or 1.0.2.

Only issue is the activation where you have to replace lockdownd, but the SIM side of it 'just works'. Did it last night - I half expected the hacked lockdownd not to work but it was completely seamless.

I'm waiting untill we get official confirmation. I emailed them and they said to wait "because the activation measures are different". I'm not really sure what this means for us but hopefully we'll get an update from them soon.

Thanks for this update -- this is what I sort of suspected, which is that IPSF unlocked phones could be upgraded to 1.1.2 and still be SIM-unlocked, but that there would be an issue "accessing" or making use of this unlock until an activation method could be developed for non-ATT SIMs.

With the appearance of the patched lockdownd files for 1.1.1-upgraded-to-1.1.2 phones, this activiation issue may be taken care of.

(Still not sure why I would want to upgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2, though).

If you have not been able to get the answer yet, I had a similar situation. I used Fugu to SSH into the phone and applied a hacked Lockdownd 1.0.2 file into /usr/libexec. Restart the phone and you should have it functioning. I helped a guy from Norway today with a similar situation. If you need a guide on what I told him let me know and I'll post the link.

And YES, Apple please freeeee the iPhone. It's an evolutionary revolution in phones and interfaces.

You can find the lockdownd file on this page:

http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dgzw9xs_0gfhxns

(See the iPhone 1.1.2 (Updating from 1.0.2 or 1.1.1) section)

Personally, I'm waiting (hoping) for a simpler GUI solution!

I have an original 1.1.2 phone, Haven't touched it. Can I downgrade to 1.0.2 and use iphonesimfree, then upgrade back to 1.1.1. then to 1.1.2, jailbreak, then activate changing lockdownd?

If you want an unlocked iPhone and are in firmware 1.1.1 use Installer to rune iPhone SimFree and STAY on 1.1.1.

If you wish to go ahead to 1.1.2 then wait out until IPSF team has a working upgrade to their unlocking software.

Personally there is not much difference between 1.1.1 and 1.1.2. They say its just some internet speed when over EDGE. But my EDGE is really fast wwhere I live so no difference.

Read the entire page, especially when Rafn states his phone will not connect. After he highlighted this I realised mine was the same.

Tonight I upgraded to 1.1.2 using the guide here

http://www.hacktheiphone.com/112/iphone_update_112_unlock_mac.html

My phone was unlocked previously with IPSF. So what I am saying is that for SOME people you may not need to wait for the next IPSF instalment.

To each their own.

Happy hacking.

FYI,

http://forum.frenchiphone.com/index.php/topic,3743.msg44610.html#msg44610

states that IPSF > 1.6 survives the update.
It also suggests that if you used an IPSF version prior to 1.6, you should reverginise it (that can be done in 1.0.2 only if I remember right) then update to fw 1.1.1 and apply IPSF 1.7-rc4.

My iPhone was unlocked with IPSF prior to fw 1.1.1 release (hence it's a very old version, pre 1.6 for sure), but I decided to update it to 1.1.2 without verginising and guess what ? It works. (the ipsf unlock survived the update).

I unlocked my iPhone with iPhone SIMFree. Now I took out he AT&T sim card before the unlocked and reboot my phone (off n on) after removing the AT&T sim. After I applied the IPSF tool and successfully unlocked. Now I insert the non AT&T sim but the iphone won't pick up signal besides the Wi-Fi signal. It does however show that i have voice mail and shows my non AT&T number in my contacts; however no network signal. How do I proceed from here??

and never opens. Gosh, seems everything is against me not to end the unlocking process.

My iphone came with 1.1.1 out of the box... I jailbroke/activated using jailbreakme.com and unlocked with iphonesimfree 1.7...

I don't plan on updating to 1.1.2 just yet, but I've got a couple questions:

1) Is it a good idea to install iphonesimfree 1.8, given that I've already unlocked with 1.7? Is it generally a good idea to keep up-to-date with iphonesimfree versions even if you already have successfully unlocked with a previous version?

2) If so, is it necessary/advisable to uninstall iphonesimfree 1.7 from my iphone first, or would that be silly?
